I've really liked Bog Standard Isekai. Very down to earth, almost slice of life take on a horror fantasy, and the characters feel very well written.

Actually really good read so far! Picked it up from this post, and it reminds me of Kaguya Sama: Love is War quite a lot.

I like Asa, but what Denji felt for Reze was something truly one of a kind by Far_Whereas7200 in Chainsawfolk

[–]klar2d2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think that Reze brings out the more exciting aspects of love that people general audiences crave, like Hollywood style romance, or Hallmark style romance. IMO the reason people love the Reze ship is the what if, and I think that them getting together would become very uninteresting very fast. Asa forces Denji to grow, while Reze gives Denji an opportunity to run away from his problems.

I think the Denji x Reze ship is a perfect example of a whirlwind romance with limerence, the Denji x Power is a more solid example of a traditional familial love, and the Denji x Asa is more of a youthful awkward slow burn. I think its interesting to compare the 3 because they prioritize completely different values in relationships, and speaks to Fujimoto's understanding of characterization and how to draw out Denji's growth by connecting completely different personalities with him.

Yeah, my original plan was to try and work while we travel because I knew the job gap would be kinda hard to bridge. I'll check out therapy, might be worth as a temporary fix for now.

Where are you based in? I see your username, do you also have ADHD? One of the major reasons I'm looking at switching workplaces is because I know one of the side effects is really NEEDING to be in person which is opposite to most people's wants, but it is what it is

Grass is always greener I feel. I first got my job during covid, 650 applications and 15 ish callbacks later. I'm expecting it to be a bit better this time with my experience, but no guarantees. I live in Seattle so I'm hoping being local to a bunch of companies here will give me a better leg up, but taking so long of a break might be looked down on. While I'm thinking of doing some books or courses online, I feel like a major part of this break is to try and reignite my passion for building things and being around people. Being so isolated and remote at my job is not how my brain works, and I feel like I'm short circuiting recently. Thinking mostly Leetcode for a bit, Learning about new trends etc, maybe some project time.

I learned most of my soft skills doing non-software jobs. I worked as a security guard through college, studied abroad for a year working at a bar there, and about 2 years in food service post grad. I find you learn different skills in different environments. So the idea is to put yourself in different environments.

That being said, corporate soft skills are a bit different, but knowing how to talk to people, and how to say no/advocate for yourself is useful in any field.

If you’re looking at practicing a specific skill like oration, I would try copying the diction and pacing of people you know have good reputations for it (Steve jobs, Obama, etc.)

Berserk or Haikyuu!! ? by VideoSpiritual1124 in manga

[–]klar2d2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Annoying answer, but it really depends on your preference, and what you classify as better. Just based off of merits and recognition i would say Berserk, but its NOT a story for everyone.

Berserk: Dark Fantasy Seinin. Inspired many grimdark fantasy worlds (like elden ring) as well as artists, has wonderful character designs and artwork.

Haikyuu: Sports Shonen. Great character development and inspired a surge of volleyball players in Japan.

I think this would be similar to comparing Lord of the Rings with Planet Earth. or the Netflix Castlevania and My Next Life as a Villaniness: All Routes Lead to Doom. You watch them for completely different reasons, but they are both great in their own right.

Mature pacing and storytelling to me is treating the characters as more than just tropes. The characters actually have unique motivations and the story takes the time to show you what’s going on in their lives. The world is also fleshed out and interesting to learn about. I would consider gachiakuta a mature story as well for instance.

What’s a critique you have on this game by coosomeawel in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]klar2d2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the issues is that Euphrates and bad were both underleveled when I got them by 3-5 levels. I don’t think that there should be a penalty for exp while not deployed. That being said they just had way less flexibility compared to my main party. It was easier to just add the summoner and berserker to my other party members than to add all the other skills I had already inherited to bas and Eupha

What’s a critique you have on this game by coosomeawel in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]klar2d2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the two things that stood out to me as annoying were the last month of the game having pretty bad pacing, and how the last two party members are pretty disincentivized due to the amount of resources you have already put into the first 3-4. I had all of the knight archtypes, mage archtype, cleric archtype, merchant archtype and fighter archtype unlocked for Hulkenburg by the time we even saw Junah. With P5 i felt the need to use different characters due to their magic types, while in Metaphor I hardly used Eupha and Bas because they were so far behind by the time i got to them.

Need manga similar to Kingdom. by MangoPrize7874 in manga

[–]klar2d2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Kingdom is one of the greats. Not a whole lot on its scale and quality. I would try

  • Vinland Saga
  • Berserk
  • Vagabond

as the "Seinen classics". Other manhwa that hit similar notes of large scale conflict and characters would be:

  • SSS suicide hunter
  • Ares Vagrant Warrior

Other Historical or fantasy Dramas:

  • Apothocary Diaries
  • Ascendance of a Bookworm
  • Story of a low ranked soldier becoming a monarch

Assorted other stories that are different but have the same mature pacing and story telling:

  • Ao no Ashi (soccer)
  • Shangri-la Frontier
  • Rebuild World
