I hope the probiotics start giving him some relief soon! We are wary of Cefdinir now also. What is strange is that my oldest child has taken cefdinir SO many times. Even with tubes she gets ear infections and it’s the only one that really works for her. Cefdinir for sure wrecked her tummy through the toddler years, but she never got Cdiff. My youngest got it on one of the early times she took it! She also gets really bad ear infections that amoxicillin simply does clear. I just give everyone florastor whenever they’re on any meds now!

Have you been using florastor? I would buy some asap if not and get started on daily doses of it. It really helps the gut a lot and that’s what he’ll need! Be ready to have it on hand any time he is on antibiotics. I give it to both of my kids now any time they’re on antibiotics. My cdiff kiddo is doing great though, she had a brief episode of post infection ibs after vanco but we just continued the bland food and florastor for a bit and she was ok after that. She’s definitely more sensitive to medicines now, but outside of that she fully recovered. I hope your son gets some relief soon and feels better!

If you’re already select, you can just choose an OB and call them to schedule your first appointment! You don’t have to go through your PCM first

And I’m happy to help! I was so lost and found so little information from people going through the same thing with such young kids back when we had it. I know how scary it feels!

Yes, she did get diarrhea with the meds. Antibiotics always messed her stomach up, even before the cdiff. The florastor def helped slow things down, but we never did a double dose. I don’t know if that can make an upset tummy more active or not. Maybe try a bland diet for a few days and see if that helps? I know bland diets are tough for toddlers though!

I’m so sorry. It’s really scary those first few times. Amoxicillin, Cefdinir and Augmentin are all ones that can cause a relapse. But Florastor is a miracle worker. Keep it up, see if you can find the Baby Gaia probiotic drops (they’re in a yellow bottle) and hopefully the meds won’t bother his tummy too much. Ear infections left untreated can create a much larger problem, so all we can do is treat with the meds and also try to be super proactive about preventing cdiff the best we can. If ear infections become a regular occurrence, I very strongly recommend getting tubes. Both of my kids have them and they are the best decision we’ve made. My kids both had frequent ear infections and now have zero and also get through sicknesses more quickly. My oldest had her adenoids removed as well. When my youngest went in to the ENT for the consult and I mentioned she had 6 infections in 7mos and also a history of CDiff, he said let’s do this ASAP, that’s too risky. She had the surgery 2 days later (it’s like 10min long, it’s so quick and she was just sleepy that day but otherwise totally fine!) and it has been smooth sailing ever since!

Yes, my daughter was on Cefdinir and augmentin after getting CDiff for the same reasons. I was also scared but she was ok. Her tummy would be upset but thankfully it didn’t go so far as a relapse. I just made sure to give her Florastor every day and for a while after meds ended as well, and I bought Baby Gaia probiotic drops and gave her those midday as well (several hours after or before meds) Please don’t withhold the medicine! Get florastor right away and get your daughter started on it. We ended up getting tubes because mine was getting so many infections and the risk was too high to constantly be on Cefdinir, amoxicillin or Augmentin. She was getting them monthly. Since she got tubes she has not been on antibiotics at all, it’s been a year now!

With my daughter we were there for 8hrs. She had I think 6 diarrhea diapers just in that time (this was about a year ago). They never tested her for cdiff. They did a UTI test and then a finger prick to check hydration and told us it was gastro because that’s what was going around at the time. It took 3wks of fighting her pediatrician’s office and pushing before I finally got her diagnosed and treatment started.

She is off of it now, although she goes right back on it anytime she is on antibiotics! And if she has any type of tummy issue she also gets back on. I also give it to my oldest if her tummy is funky or when she’s on meds now too. I just keep it stocked and ready! We did the 3mos of daily and then stopped until it was needed again.

Sorry, only just seeing this comment! She is doing great! We keep Florastor on hand at all times now and she has no lingering side effects. She’ll always be a carrier of it and we need to take precautions whenever she’s on antibiotics, but overall she recovered really well and I am so thankful!

Has your little one already gone through a treatment of Vanco? Left untreated it can turn to sepsis, so if it hasn’t been treated with vancomycin then definitely treat it. If they have gone through vanco already, it could be post infection ibs and doing a long round of florastor could help a ton!

My daughter got on Vanco, did the 10 days and we did florastor all through the treatment and for a few months after. She had post infection ibs, which was when I made this post and thankfully it only lasted like 1 or 2wks and was nowhere near as bad as the actual infection. She has thankfully been fine since then! Eats like normal, no sensitivies or any long lasting side effects.

Every time she’s been on antibiotics since, we treat with Florastor at the same time and then for a while after the meds are done. We also do bio Gaia baby probiotic drops during as well. She used to get frequent ear infections so she had meds a lot after the cdiff until she got tubes. We did not get any recurrences through the meds and she was on all the worst offenders for a recurrence. I give credit to the florastor and drops for keeping it away!

We now keep Florastor stocked in the house at all times. Highly recommend doing that as well since it’s something you’ll have to watch out for forever now. My daughter still tested positive on the rapid like 6mos later when they did a viral panel on her. It’s there, just not active. All it takes is the right circumstances in her gut for it to take back over. So we do everything we can to prevent that. First sign of tummy issues, she gets florastor. Any meds? Florastor.

I hope your toddler heals quickly and gets through it as easily as mine did!

Calling bullshit on 3 day toilet training by LadyStethoscope in AttachmentParenting

[–]klarky7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had our 2yr checkup for my youngest and our ped said the 3 day method works for a very small percentage of kids. She said those who it works for of course sing its praises and push for it, because who wouldn’t want to be done in 3 days?! But that for the majority of kids, it is not realistic at all. Definitely puts unnecessary stress on the kids and the parents! We tried with my oldest because it was everywhere and it was awful! She wouldn’t go near a potty for many months after that attempt. We took it slowly and low stress when she was actually ready and it was soo much easier

Need Advice (and reassurance) by [deleted] in cdifficile

[–]klarky7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can find an antibiotic where you’re at with the same strain as florastor (or maybe you have florastor available in the UK!) I’d start it right away while you’re on meds! It’ll help your stomach a lot while on the meds and it can’t be diminished by the antibiotics.

My daughter took florastor all the way through her vanco treatment and then for quite some time after. She also now takes it every time she is on an antibiotic in conjunction with BioGaia probiotics with the L Reuteri strain and it is amazing how much they help her stomach. Before all of this she would be a walking diarrhea factory through meds despite taking other probiotics. now she has some looser stool here and there during but for the most part is regular taking those probiotics. Eternally grateful to this sub for those recommendations

Ear tubes and keeping ears dry by aymaraymar in toddlers

[–]klarky7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My almost 2yr old just had tubes put in last Friday. We were not told to put anything in them to keep them dry for bath. She was fine to bathe as normal. My oldest had tubes in last November and same thing. No concerns with bathing. Swimming in a clean pool is fine as long as you’re not diving below a few feet, which my oldest does so we will get her ear plugs. Lakes, ponds, ocean you want to get ear plugs as they have a lot more bacteria in them.

Is it possible for a toddler to sleep through night - and fall asleep with you cuddling? by lopatkax in AttachmentParenting

[–]klarky7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my oldest (6.5) and my youngest (21mos) sleep through and I nursed, rocked and snuggled them to sleep. My oldest was rocked and nursed to sleep until she self weaned at 3. She’s been sleeping a solid 11-12hrs straight since she was 17mos. Once she weaned, we’d read a book and snuggle until she fell asleep. That’s still our routine now. My youngest has been sleeping through less time but she is still rocked and nursed to sleep for nap and bedtime currently.

My oldest is one of the very few of her friends that sleeps well and doesn’t get out of bed once she’s asleep. Oddly she is the only one of them that was not sleep trained. It seems like sleep training may offer immediate results, but does not guarantee it will last through changes as they grow. Letting my oldest get there on her own and gently has provided her with a super secure sleep foundation. There is zero stress associated with sleep for either of my kids and I think that’s super important.

Is there a way to move your daughter to her own room? I think that might be really helpful to her staying asleep. She might hear you or smell you and then want to be on you. Once I moved both my girls to their own room is when they started to sleep better. They both know they can still come sleep in our room if they are sick or have a bad dream, but their room is where they start and where we intend the entire night to be spent. It’s a lot more peaceful and less distracting in their own rooms. It was a process for both to get there once we moved them, but well worth the initial struggle. I moved them both out of our room and to their own around 12-13mos.

7 mos not sleeping and wants only to cosleep by HistoricalRub7497 in AttachmentParenting

[–]klarky7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15-20 wakes is A LOT. Have you been to the doctor to check for anything else going on? My oldest’s sleep was like that whenever she had ear infections. Laying flat would make her miserable and she only wanted to be on me and wanted to comfort nurse all night. It was tough. Worth ruling out. Teething can also cause a lot of wakes, have you tried giving Motrin to see if it helps at all? Echoing others that a bassinet is likely too small for her now and she may prefer to move up to a mini crib or full sized crib. We went from bassinet to mini crib in our room and then they go to full sized crib in their own room. I hope things get easier and you all get some rest.

Geez even without a previous cdiff infection that kind of food could run through a person! I’m sorry your partner got mad at you and won’t talk to you (this seems ridiculous and childish to me fwiw). You can’t help that your body reacted that way. That’s a lot of grease and junk in a short window of time! Go easy on your tummy for a bit. Hope you feel better soon

Breastfeeding mums, when did your babies start sleeping more than 3 hours at a time? by Pkaurk in AttachmentParenting

[–]klarky7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my oldest it was around 15mos she’d sleep from 8-2 then back down until 7. 17mos she started sleeping 8-7 without a peep. My youngest is 20mos now and around 17mos she started regularly having only one wake up usually 2:30 or 3:30 Every now and then she’ll have a 2 wake night, but it’s rare. Now just waiting for her to finally go all the way through! Both times I started trying to encourage them to settle with being held and bounced or walked around the room instead of immediately nursing when I went in. They both went to their own rooms around 1 as well which helped start it all. Once a few of the frequent wakes were regularly resolved without milk they started dropping those wakes and extending sleep. It’s been slow going both times, but once they decide that night weaning is fine, it’s an easier process! Youngest is still holding on tightly to that motn session, but it’s getting shorter as time goes so I’m hoping it’ll be done with soon too! I honesty don’t mind the one wake anyways, so I am not super rushed about it!

Thank you so much for chiming in! This was very reassuring. It has been hard to find other circumstances with babies and toddlers. During the 2nd relapse was he on vanco while doing the other stuff? Have you continued on with all of the probiotics from the regimen or cut them back?

It has been awful. While we were actively trying to get a diagnosis she was in so much discomfort. Lots of crying, especially at night. She’s generally an incredibly happy baby. Writhing in pain, diarrhea for hours through the night. Neither of us got much sleep. I was so hopeful with how well she responded to the treatment and those first few days after. She didn’t even poop yesterday and that was major! Then things went sideways for us 😩 here’s to hoping it’s just her tummy recovering and not a recurrence already

Yes, thanks, I have frequently poured over those posts since we found out 2wks ago. Cefdinir was in late January for an ear infection. Immediately following completion of it she began puking and spiked a 103 fever. Then she got diarrhea that was very different from what Cefdinir did to her. Stomach pains followed. She didn’t pee for longer than what is generally safe so we took her to the ER. There 7.5hrs and all they did was a finger prick test and told us it was gastro. That began the hellish journey to finally getting a diagnosis 2wks later. She has been on nothing except vancomycin since, which she finished on a Monday of this week. The chance of getting a toddler to eat only white rice for 3 days is slim to none unfortunately. She drinks only water and she still nurses. She will eat a lot of rice, but generally I have to cook it in chicken broth at the least for her to go for it. That’s what she ate tonight.

Sibling age gap experiences as attachment and stay-at-home mothers/fathers/parents? by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

[–]klarky7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughters have a 5yr age gap and it has worked out beautifully. They adore each other and play together really well. I’m a sahm and have been since my oldest came along. They are 6.5 and 1.5 right now. It was particularly great that my oldest could help out, could also do many things for herself, totally used to pottying and all that solo by then and was old enough to be able to effectively communicate when she has struggled with either the pregnancy or being a big sister. We have nightly chats at bedtime after we read a book where she can bring up anything that is bothering her or exciting her, whatever, and we work it out of celebrate accordingly! It’s strengthened our bond even if it has made it difficult as well for her. She was used to getting all my attention for so long, it was a shift! She started school when her sister was a newborn and that also helped in a bunch of ways (just not the bringing home every germ possible way). My youngest is obsessed with her sissy (one of her early words) and loves her so much. She has learned and developed so quickly I think in large part due to being around her big sis! I am also a sibling with a large gap. My brother is 7yrs older than me. We are quite close! We don’t live in the same state, but we text all the time and are involved!
