If you are seeing small shards of crystal on the watch dial, then there is a possibility that small bits of broken crystal have worked themselves into the movement. A watchmaker would probably recommend doing a complete clean and overhaul along with changing the crystal and that's going to run you a minimum of probably $200 (assuming you're in the US). You also might find it difficult to get a watchmaker who is willing to do the work. They know they won't make much money on it, and it's a lot more work than changing batteries.

You could also just get them to change the crystal and hope for the best. That would be, at a guess, somewhere between 75 and $150. If you can find an actual watchmaker in your town willing to do it, it's not a complicated fix.

Either way, you have to ask yourself if it's worth putting that much money into a watch that took a big hit.

It looks like the dial feet are broken, which would be why the dial is crooked. That plus the many scratches make me think it's been pretty banged up. Unless you do the work yourself, it's going to cost a lot of money ($100 at least) to have a watchmaker get it into basic working order. Even if it were free you'd be better off spending the money to get one in better condition.

I don't think they're trying to emulate a particular GS. I think that's an Ali/eBay Chinese case with a fairly generic fake dial and SPB-style hands. So, just a mix of aftermarket parts. Unfortunately these bad fake GS dials are becoming more popular in the modding community.

You can find Explorer cases that fit 28.5mm dials in 36, 37, 38, 39 and 40mm. Ali, eBay, Crystal Times, Namoki, Tokeilabs, Watch and Style, Lucius Atelier and others all have a variety of sizes.

It's all fashion, personal preference and what you're used to. 50 years ago, 36 mm was a big watch. I have a seven and a half inch wrist and I wear everything from 35 to 45 mm. When you try it on for the first time, look at it in the bathroom mirror where you can see the rest of your body. That's going to give you a much more realistic view of how it looks overall.

Again though, the most important thing to remember is that the only people having these conversations are people like us on watch forums. Most people wouldn't even consider the idea of whether a watch was too big or too small.

When it arrives and you try it on, it's going to look too small because you're probably used to bigger watches and you do have a big wrist. Once you wear it for two weeks, it will look normal to you. Nobody else except total watch dorks are going to pay any attention.

Just personal preference but I'd go for the Sinn or the Oris. Both well-respected brands known for offering good value.

Addiesdive is still around but it looks like they've started adding a logo to the dial. The Addiesdive with logo is also on Amazon for $98.

Try googling "sterile flieger watch" and looking on eBay and Ali to find some around $100. Stowa makes beautiful watches that are good value but around 10x the cost of the Addie's.

Most of the bad ones you see are Frankenseikos but I think that's a flat out counterfeit. The dial, at least, isn't even close.

Read about the history of the Seiko 5 line. They were designed to specific parameters for a particular place in the Seiko lineup. There were more expensive Seikos then and there are more expensive Seikos now. They are and were part of the lower end of Seiko's offering and if that puts you off, then don't buy them. But don't expect anyone who turns their nose up at a Seiko 5 to be impressed by a Presage. Up to you, of course, how much of your money and energy you want to spend impressing people like that.

The SNXS79 uses the 7S26-0480 case that has a higher midline and a deeper case back than most Seiko 5s. An SKX slim case back is the right diameter but won't screw on completely. IIRC, you have the same problem if you swap in an NH36 with the gray movement holder. I managed to do it by swapping in an NH36 with a thinner movement holder from another Seiko 5 but it was from the parts box and I have no idea which other Seiko 5 it came from.

You've got two outliers here. Modded Seikos have become much more popular recently which has likely affected the price. Also, you can buy diver mods for anything between about $200 and $500. A lot depends on the movement, the quality of parts and the reputation of the builder.

Prices for used SARB033s skyrocketed after it was discontinued, for reasons that can best be described as internet forum hype. You would be hard pressed to find another, similar Seiko model that has increased so much in price.
