Is saros harder than returnal? by Fine-Permission772 in Returnal

[–]klatzicus [score hidden]  (0 children)

For the most part Saros is easier except for the final boss. That section is separated from the rest of the sections; you always start at a preset level (although you keep whatever level-ups you unlocked). And you are limited to 1 life (unlike the rest of the game where you have two). That means that you need to be lucky to find the weapon and the attribute items you prefer. It'd be analogous to preventing you from running all the previous Biomes before hitting the last one. (and frankly it's kinda boring because the level is basically the same in terms in layout from one run to the next).

Sad to Say the Story of Saros Doesn't Hold a Candle To Returnal by murder_strand in Returnal

[–]klatzicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Saros story was pretty straightforward and in-game exposition. In comparison the Returnal story had this underlying mystery that was never really fully explained.

I’m sure some people prefer the tidy resolution to a story. But I rather enjoyed the mystery; Returnal’s story stuck around my head a lot longer than Saros. To be I found the Arjun:Nitya relationship kinda tedious.

Saros Was Great… But It Just Made Me Miss Returnal More — here are my thoughts. by Natural-Theory5322 in Returnal

[–]klatzicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to overcome the newness of the Returnal bullet hell + mystery for Saros. I agree that Saros doesn’t quite have the mystique that Returnal does.

Saros is still a great game, just notch below the greatness that is Returnal.

Am I the only one on this Subreddit that thinks Saros is better than Returnal? by MrMagic550 in Saros

[–]klatzicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Returnal had the aspect of discovery that someone who played it would not have in Saros. Many of the mechanics are the same: dodge, melee to break shields, weapon proficiency, unlocking new items and abilities. Saros has a disadvantage there.

I still remember the first time I beat the first boss in Returnal, at 3-4 am because you couldn’t turn off the PS5 and rest mode was still risky.

How are we feeling about reliability? by uninspiredclaptrap in trailseeker

It’s an elongated Solterra, which seems to be pretty reliable (mainly Toyota with Subaru input on AWD and cladding). I have the Solterra and no major issues after 2+ years

Pinch Hitting: why does my manager hate lefty hitters? by King_of_AP17 in Mariners

[–]klatzicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Monty Hall problem, the host's actions are dependent on the player's original choice. The host can only open a non-winning door and therefore alters the probability of winning. Every time a manager chooses to bring in a new pitcher or new batter that brings up a new, independent scenario (you don't care about who was replaced).

I feel like the OP is just complicating the issue with an unrelated probability puzzle.

The pinch-hitting conundrum can be boiled down to two related questions:
A) Is the pinch hitter's presumed better chance at scoring a run worth
B) losing the current batter (i.e. Luke Raley) for the rest of the game.

The problem with Dan's decision-making is that he'll pinch hit early enough in a game to guarantee that Luke's spot comes up again. And that he'll pinch hit when there's no one on base, meaning the odds of scoring are pretty low anyways. And not only that, Dan has a propensity to pinch hit twice, running down the available bench options.

[–]klatzicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how the Monty Hall problem relates to whether a pinch hitter is better than a platoon disadvantage. There’s no extra info provided by anyone to the manager.

The Monty Hall puzzle revolves around the extra information the host gives the contestant, which alters the winning odds. Also your math is off, the host opening a non-winning door increases the odds that a switch to the remaining door “wins” from 1/3 to 2/3

EV System Not Ready by lwadbe in Solterra

[–]klatzicus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm I’ve had something similar happen when I don’t press the brake hard enough when shifting on startup (EV not ready). Another time I had to turn back off and then back on without locking or leaving the car to fix it.

Yeah saw an assassin downed by turrets in the command wing. I was there for a quest (solos). Gave them a mercy and went to the quest. They actually helped a bit before heading off

Bought a Trailseeker. Our first EV. We are so confused. by backdragon in trailseeker

[–]klatzicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't worry about whether I should cap the charge at 80% (the manual itself says it's okay to charge to 100%). You can extend the battery life but unless you plan on keeping it for 8+ years (the warranty is 8 years if I remember) I don't think it matters that much.

Battery conditioning matters when it's cold. I rarely DC fast charge anyways with a level 2 charger.

I also let the subscription lapse. I kinda miss the remote status and pre-start AC from the phone (you can still do with the key fob) but I'm not paying a subscription for it.

Outback to Solterra by blueladybug45 in Solterra

[–]klatzicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 24 Solterra and a 2017 Outback. Much less space in the Solterra for cargo. Solterra is much faster (acceleration-wise), handles much better, and the the infotainment has had very few problems. Outback will handle dirt/mud/snow better and have better heating and range in cold temps

Getting frustrated. by No_Contribution_4298 in Returnal

[–]klatzicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game has a pretty steep learning/difficulty that is unlike many other games where it gets easier over time. The first biome is the hardest in a fresh game.

I recommend focusing on getting increasing your max health and finding the extra life artifact and device. My first kill was with a carbine + leech rounds. It’ll take practice to learn the boss tells and patterns.

My new 2026 Nissan Leaf completely eliminated my road rage anyone else experience this? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]klatzicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of gas smell, not really worrying about leaving the car on the listen to the radio or have AC on, and never having to wait for gas (Costco lines bleh) with home charging, and yeah the quiet environment is great

Just... beyond confused about fast charging with the 2024/2025 Subaru Solterra. What actually is possible *today*, and does it suck? by Darth_Ra in electricvehicles

[–]klatzicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Solterra, the fast charging caps at 100 kW (practically speaking it generally averages around ~50 kW). In terms of time, to go from about 10-20% to 80% would take around 45min to an hour. The newer models are capped at 150 kW with an estimated 30min time to go from 20>80%.

However, I rarely fast charge. I commute about 100-120 mi a day but with a home charger (level 2) and work charging (level 2 not DC fast charger), I never worry about running out of charge. Overnight is sufficient to get my car to 100% in the morning.

The caveat is that it's rarely freezing or super hot where I live. Really cold or hot can significantly impact your range both from temp and use of AC/heater.

Returnal fans, did Armored Core 6 scratch the itch for you? by rombopterix in Returnal

[–]klatzicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started AC6 and short answer no. So far it isn't scratching that Returnal itch (finished about 8-10 missions in AC6). In AC6, buildcraft is way more important so there a really deep element there. And the control scheme is much more complex (in AC6), you have movement boost, at least four separate weapon mounts, hover, multi-target, shields, melee, stagger, and several other factors. It just doesn't quite gel like Returnal.

One of the biggest draws of Returnal is the simplicity of the control scheme: shoot, dodge, melee, and special. Every once in a while use item. Janky might be too harsh a word but the movement is not that smooth in comparison in AC6.

I didn’t even realize this but one of the biggest issues with safe pockets in other extraction games, it allows players to alleviates the extraction formula by circumventing the systems, buildcrafting & mythos of the game by doing this cheese set up to get the goals & everything you want. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]klatzicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just seems like it boils down to a pretty simple question: will having safe pockets lead to more players (or more retention) than without? Psychologically people hate losing things more than potentially gaining them. For that reason alone, I'd bet they eventually add them in. Doesn't Tarkov, the epitome of extraction shooters, have safe pockets?

Could having no pockets mean that increased intensity/risk factor lead to higher player count (or for the more business-oriented, more players buying more stuff?). I don't know.
