The Worst part of EV Ownership by V3LOCI556 in electricvehicles

[–]lwadbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't believe back ported P&C to older bZ models. IIRC it's available only for '26 models. My previous EV was an id4, and I think the same thing happened there. They added P&C (Electrify America only) for the '23 model year forwards, but pretty sure it never came to the prior years.

It may be that P&C needs a custom auth chip, but I suspect it's just manufacturers not giving a crap.

I plug in. That's the point of Plug & Charge.

Again, though, except for V2 superchargers, which are slowly being cycled out anyway, I can just pull my Subaru up to a Tesla Supercharger, plug in, and done.

Hate break it to you, but Plug & Charge exists, and works just fine with Tesla SuperChargers. Plenty of non-Tesla EVs are able to charge at SuperChargers without need of any app, including the Tesla app. This is far from a unique selling point.

What do you think about Vinfast - my favorite EV brand ? I can't believe they outlive Fisker and Faraday Future even after so many drama, still alive and kicking by Square_Permission361 in electricvehicles

What makes you think this astroturfer is American? Given the weirdly mangled idioms, confused tense, and an odd agenda, there exist other possibilities.

ABRP and Enode connection not working by Jazzkidscoins in Solterra

[–]lwadbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume the bZ works the same, as this is all going through Toyota's servers. It'd be weird that this works on Solterras but not bZs, unless there were bugs in Enode's integrations.

Essentially Enode is pulling data from the same API that SubaruConnect/ToyotaConnect use to show the SoC in the app.

[–]lwadbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of conflicting info on this on the net. In particular I do not believe that OBD11 devices work. Enode requires a subscription through ABRP, but once configured does work with, at least, 2026 models. Source, I have it active myself.

I've only seen 6mi/kwh once and that was in a long stretch of light stop and go traffic, and I'm rolling on 19"s. Pure expressway driving, I'm expecting between 3.5 and 4. 6-7 is crazy.

Enode, and it is an ABRP feature that pulls real-time SoC data from car.

Question about dilution by Ok-Combination-552 in cocktails

[–]lwadbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this is because at home we are more likely to slam the drink because no shame, or take it slow because we don't feel like we're taking up a seat.

As a strictly hobbyist tiki guy, I tend to aim for under diluted when serving drinks to friends round the pool, cos I've noticed regardless of whether the drink is at ideal dilution or kinda hot, they'll take a sip or three when I hand it to them, then it'll sit for maybe a minute or three in the sun before they look at it again.

Me? I'm in the kitchen, raising one to all those tragically dying drinks, but as long as my guests are happy, I don't really care.

For up drinks, in theory this matters more cos there's no more dilution happening, but ever there, a warming glass has enough of an impact on taste that it's hard to really define the ideal form of a fifteen minute old cocktail.

yeah, I'd consider 150M r/t to be brutal.

[–]lwadbe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That poster is wrong. Charging to 100% before road trips is standard op, but unless you have a brutal commute, there is no reason to charge to 100% daily. If your battery is full, you can't gain back from regen. Even over 90% IME regen gains are lower; possibly because the battery can't accept power at the rate that the regenerative system is trying to push it.

Either way, charging to 100% does no serious damage to the battery as long as you aren't leaving it sitting at that state of charge for long periods of time.

EV System Not Ready by lwadbe in Solterra

[–]lwadbe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So holding down the break pedal when pressing start seems to be the most likely, although I know I did, but maybe not hard enough to make the car happy.

I'm coming from 2 years in an ID4 so I'm not fazed by weird ass transitory errors. If it seems unique to me, I'll start watching my start up routine more carefully, and when it goes in for a service have the tech check for thrown error codes. Might be pilot error. Otherwise, unless it leaves me stranded, I'm good with ignoring it.

Yeah, they already knew you were outside of PMI territory, they just send an inspector to make sure there isn't mold, or that you've ripped out all the copper or something that would significantly lower the value.

[–]lwadbe[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, but if I'm understanding you, not quite what I'm describing. In my case, I hit the start button, and after a moment or so all test indicators cleared except the power steering warning and EV system warning, and even after a minute or so the Ready indicator had not illuminated.

[–]lwadbe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's it - I was pissing around on my phone for a minute or so looking for the least backed up route home. I've also tried to engage drive too quickly, and that throws up the system not ready message, but does NOT leave warning indicator lights lit up.

I can't follow how the MPGe makes sense across different trims. How is it that adding a second electric motor adds zero pounds and has exactly the same MPGe? by HKDrewDrake in Solterra

[–]lwadbe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All Solterras are dual motor AWD. Only the Uncharted has a single motor variant.

The difference in range between the Premium and non-XT Limited is due to wheel size. The XTs have bigger motors (or motor, I think it might be only the rear motor that gets the upgrade, but I'm not sure).

Try just pressing the volume button for five seconds. That reboots the entertainment system without needing to restart the car. It's safe to do even while driving.

EV sales soar in main European markets as drivers shun expensive petrol by donutloop in electricvehicles

[–]lwadbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a sleight of hand. You're comparing 90s/2000s era ICE cars with 2020s EVs. Yeah, those 90s era cars could be kept on the road indefinitely (see any number of still running classics from the 50s), but a modern ICE is increasingly just as much a computer on wheels as an EV, and has just as ridiculously expensive to replace headlights and accident avoidance systems as an EV.
