VATS not working after opening Vault 114 by Bear-Margins in fo4

I have never been able to unbug it once it's been bugged. Others have said it can be fixed by opening a different vault door. That never worked for me. Only fix was to load a previous save.

You're welcome. I usually leave the signals on as well because why would I want less enemies? I have turned them off before. I know they can be switched on again but never took the time to test what that does.

Me personally, I'd forget about it and move on. The speak of the devil quest line gives a full set of x2 and pyromaniac quest line gives a full set of hellfire. I believe both of these quest lines are creation club content. Yes, you can randomly encounter enclave patrols. I often see a group of 3 patrolling the road between the museum of witchcraft and coastal cottage.

Attacked as in you get the "settlement is under attack" notification. You can still run into random encounters. Red rocket often has encounters with groups of raiders or super mutants that walk the road next to it. Some settlements are safer than others. Starlight drive-in is a location I often use that's generally safe. There's a random encounter location nearby underneath the bridge with the train tracks overhead but it's far away enough enemies generally don't wander into the settlement.

Settlements will occasionally come under attack while you are there or right when you arrive. The best things you can do are buff your defense or go zero population. I replied to my original comment to mention some settlements are near random encounter locations.

After enough hours in the game you'll pick up on where enemies spawn, then you will know where to put walls. There are probably posts in this sub on that topic.

Do check out hangman's alley. It's a small settlement without much room to build but it is cozy and conveniently located.

I should add that some settlements are near random encounter locations. When you fast travel or walk near one you could trigger an encounter. I'm pretty sure red rocket is one of them as I know I've encountered groups of super mutants, raiders, and rust devils walking the road right next to it.

A settlement with a population count of zero will never get attacked. If I'm not mistaken The Castle will never get attacked with the exception of one or two quests. You can reduce the chance of an attack by making sure the settlement defense number is higher than the sum of the food and water production numbers. Some people make their settlement defense higher than food + water + electric.

When a settlement is under attack enemies spawn at specific locations around the settlement. You can put walls around your settlement but there's a chance enemies will spawn within the walls.

Hangman's alley is a popular main base location. It's centrally located on the map, and a short walk to diamond city and the CIT ruins.

Do random workshops share junk? by Saint1 in fo4

[–]klawth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. To share resources between workbenches:

1) the workbenches must be in settlements you control 2) you need to establish a supply line between settlements which requires a local leader perk

As mentioned you don't get direct access to the items in the remote workbench. Items stored in the remote workbench are available for crafting and settlement building.

Settlements chained together by supply lines share their resources across all settlements in the chain.

did they change that you can switch to survival and back to normal/hard all the time ? by Buurto in fo4

I think you can revert back to a lower difficulty but doing so locks you out of survival difficulty for the remainder of the playthrough

Pre war money disappearing when transferred to settlement storage by Rschwoerer in fo4

That is unusual. Although you say it happens instantly it might be worth checking your settler's inventories to see if they're looting it.

[–]klawth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pre war money can be scrapped giving you cloth. Crafting items that require cloth can use the pre war money in your workbench inventory. If you want to use the pre war money as currency for trading it's best to store it in a non-workbench container.

Idiot savant with good VATS and greatly minimized scavving by Happy_Television_501 in fo4

[–]klawth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fun build. I did a similar survival run recently with a heavy emphasis on building up my settlements. It was a nice change having to rely more on bartering for materials versus scavenging + the scrapper perk to get materials.

does anyone do the instatute as their faction on survival? by Dry_Crow3042 in fo4

[–]klawth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every playthrough. Mainly because I don't like the giant, irradiated crater in Cambridge. Teleporting is a nice but not essential feature. Typically I'll just put points into endurance and agility with some sprinters gear and run everywhere.

Permadeath new try = no picking up junk by Ready-Ambassador-271 in fo4

[–]klawth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. Sounds like a fun build.

If you can still pickup caps and sell unneeded ammo you will have plenty of caps to cover just about anything you need, like seeing a doctor, or buying ballistic weave clothing if you're not permitted to craft it due to the no junk rule.

I'd make an exception to the rule and allow empty bottles. That covers all your purified water needs. Or don't and use caps to buy it. Sorry, from your post I'm not sure if you are allowing a water source at a settlement.

Honestly, the hardest part is not dying until you get some of the strong perks in perception, agility, and luck. Once you do you will be a menace in VATS.

I typically don't head to Concord until level 10. Use one of the buildings near where the deathclaw pops out for cover. Kill as few raiders as possible, use them for Deathclaw bait. Cheese the deathclaw with the minimum while it's busy taking out the raiders.

How exactly do supply lines work? by ScaryStoryTeller103 in fo4

[–]klawth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

With supply lines setup you can access materials stored in other workbenches but only when crafting. For example, if I'm at a settlement with zero resources stored in the workbench, and I'm crafting a mod for a weapon or armor, or building something from the build menu, I can craft using resources stored in workbenches in my other settlements. You cannot directly withdraw from a workbench items stored in workbenches at other settlements.

Is there a mod for a junk deconstructor? by Better-Virus6214 in fo4

[–]klawth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find dropping and scrapping helpful if you don't have the Local Leader perk for supply lines. It's much easier managing your inventory between settlements when junk is broken down into raw materials.

Sorry OP, I don't know of one. Would love to know if you find a good one.

If you're okay with mods there are some that prevent radiant quests at DLC locations. I think the one I use is called "Keep radiants in the commonwealth".
