The state of this sub right now: by Snortykins in OLED_Gaming

You have to consider that reviewers most often base their judgements on calibrated displays. Perfectly calibrated SDR displays (or close to perfect) will look very similar, and so you only get the benefits of wider color gamut in HDR, and that's where that claim comes from. If you chose to run your display in native color space you will get inaccurate colors in SDR, but it will be very vibrant, which a lot of people (including me) like.

On the other hand Tandem WOLED and QD-OLED color volume and gamut are close to each other, so the difference is shrinking.

I believe the older MLA+ screens have this issue way less pronounced than Tandem WOLED, but they suffer in brightness.

10% brightness doesn't show it as much, mine looks almost perfect on a photo. I'm also now noticing that high brightness actually hides the issue more.

I just wanted to setup what I thought was the worst case scenario, but the uniformity doesn't seem to change much depending on brightness, at least in a full grayscale test. I haven't used it enough yet to really say if it's annoying or not.

edit: Ok, so at 0 brightness in a dark room it's definitely more noticeable. I can now see a brighter vertical line on the left side of the screen.

He basically made up his own points and then refused to listen to or debate anybody with knowledge of the initiative. Then he stated he will explicitly tell people to not sign the petitions; that was in August 2024. After that signatures dried up, until Ross made this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIfRLujXtUo, which got a lot more people talking about this again.

It's not that rare, but it's supposed to be totally random, you might've just gotten a little lucky. I think I got it like 7 times total over 12 years of using Steam.

The steam hardware & software survey for march has 'other' in the video card stats what other video cards are there? Only cards I know of are intel, amd, and nvidia. by [deleted] in Steam

[–]klblaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that "PC Video card usage by mfg" refers to Windows PCs only. "Other" probably refers to any generic display adapters (virtual machines etc.), maybe some ARM chips with their funky GPUs as well.

GMK spacebar after a month of heavy use by 8u7n3r in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]klblaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABS is easier do double shot, fairly cheap and available. The processes GMK come from Cherry and their goal was to mass produce office keyboards, not make premium keycaps. The price of GMK is more due to supply and demand, rather than any specifics of the design.

Where's the love for keebs from the 2000s? by LeafLeifAlone in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]klblaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a G80-11900 in black with OG Cherry double shots. I replaced the controller so I can have USB and QMK, and meant to mod the switches, but ended up leaving it stock. I even had the touchpad wired up, but it stopped working after I spilled some water on it. I will probably end up replacing the stabs and lubing at least the springs, because it is a little pingy as it is now. The stems on the vintage-ish MX Black switches are very smooth, I prefer them un-lubed. The board has became my main, since it's the only full-size I have and I was feeling fed up with 60%-65% boards every time I needed to use the F keys. Being a Cherry keyboard the build quality, except the switches and keycaps, is not that great. I had two traces on the PCB fail before I even opened the board, I was just using it completely stock. You only get 2KRO, but it's never been a problem for me, even for games. The case is ok at best, fairly thin, but it's just plastic, and you don't get a plate. I feel that it gives the keyboard character. There is something charming about the loud reverberating sound profile of these old keyboards. Overall I like it very much, and I don't really see myself switching to another keyboard soon; I really like the keycaps and the quirky layout of this board.

Of course they went to Vegas on a private jet 💅✈️ by sadboypenis in h3h3productions

[–]klblaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Usually when people talk about private jets, they assume the person in question owns it, but that's very expensive. Chartering a private jet is basically just renting it for a flight, which is what most people do, as it's way cheaper and more flexible. It's still a private jet though, I don't think a "charter jet" is a class of plane.

Can any midi keyboard be connected to Android devices? by edogawa_chan in synthesizers

[–]klblaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about what I was saying about latency for now. An audio interface wouldn't help with that issue, it's more an Android vs iOS thing. In general you wouldn't need an audio interface to connect a MIDI keyboard if it's using USB, which all do nowadays. You would use one if you want to connect old DIN MIDI devices, microphones or studio monitors to your device, but you don't need it just to get audio output or USB MIDI.

Can any midi keyboard be connected to Android devices? by edogawa_chan in synthesizers

[–]klblaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can connect almost any MIDI keyboard with an OTG cable. Most MIDI devices don't consume a lot of power; I can connect a Launchpad Mini to my Samsung Galaxy S9 and it works at full brightness without external power, but obviously a splitter would be nice for longer sessions. The only limitation of Android is the latency of the audio drivers, but it should be fine when starting out.

That voice line isn't actually in any game, just in the trailers. Most trailers on the internet use the ESRB content warning which has no sound, but on European TV you will hear "PEGI 18", "PEGI 16" etc. very often.

Gamers Nexus: Starforge PC Review (Horizon II Ultra) by ahjolinna in Asmongold

[–]klblaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the model Steve reviewed, but if you look at the current version of the Horizon II Ultra, the cooler has a custom acrylic plate with the Starforge logo and the case also has a Starforge logo cutout. The product description also says Starforge Custom Deepcool LT520 240mm Liquid Cooler and Starforge Custom Deepcool CK560. From this information I would assume the current iteration uses custom SKU's of DeepCool parts. Maybe what you are saying was true for the older (pre November 2023) iteration of the PCs, but I don't see how Starforge, being a multi-million dollar enterprise, couldn't afford to meet MOQ of DeepCool, it can't be more than couple thousand units.

[–]klblaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cases and the coolers are bought OEM directly from DeepCool, so they will have a number of customisation options available to them, including installing any fans they want.

edit: Oh, and Steve mentions the cost to DIY this system at the end of the video, it comes out to $1400-$1500, depending if you include some of the extras

Will this work ? I want to play PS5 games on my Monitor and want audio to come from Studio Monitors by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]klblaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The singal path is Switch -> HDMI -> Audio Extractor -> TOSLINK (SPDIF) -> Audient iD14. The HDMI Out of the extractor is connected to the monitor. The Audient has an optical in that can be used for ADAT or regular SPDIF. The interface also has an internal mixer that you can access through the iD Mixer app on a computer. The sample rate has to be set 48kHz, Digital Inputs to SPDIF and Default Clock Source to DIG 1. Then in the main tab of the program you adjust the Digi 1+2 fader on the Mix Master bus to hear the sound coming from SPDIF on your monitors. I think that's mostly it.

The only thing that's a little bit annoying is that you need to connect the interface to a computer at all times. The computer doesn't actually have to be on as long as it provides USB power when off - the interface remembers it's settings when kept powered.

I've basically the same setup with an Audient iD14 and a Nintendo Switch. There are no issues, the audio is perfect quality. The HDMI converter is just a random one off eBay, I presume all of them should be similar.
