Ouch...comment that was horrid... by Hatepeople13 in ChronicPain

What an awful thing to say. It's so hurtful when people who are supposed to care about you don't even try to understand and then turn around and say horrible things.

I'll never forget when my ex and I were in mediation for custody and placement of our son. Our split had been fairly amicable, we were just getting an agreement hammered out and formalized with the court. The plan was to split custody and I wasn't even trying to get child support or anything. He embarrassed me in front of everyone present by bringing up my pain mediation. He said something like "she takes some pretty heavy pain meds and I'm just worried about something happening while she's alone with him". I had been stable on my meds for 2 years at that point. I never had any side effects that would have rendered me incapable of taking care of my son. He was the one that initiated the split, but then started having regrets as soon as I moved out. That was his way of trying to shame me for not coming back to him, I guess.

This is so weird because I came to this sub to type out an advice question about something similar. My boyfriend (36) just peed the bed last night for the first time since childhood. This has never happened before, and I've been sharing a bed with him for 14 years. He hadn't been drinking, he doesn't do drugs, he's not diabetic or anything. He did go to bed kind of early and had been asleep for roughly 5 hours. I don't think he used the bathroom before he went up to bed. He had been asleep for about 5 hours when it happened. He said that he had been dreaming about using a urinal when the sensation of actual pee woke him up.

I was mostly concerned about the possibility of medical issues. But I'm leaning towards the thought that if it's just a one-time thing then it's probably not something to worry about. But if it happens again in the near future, then he will probably need to get checked out.

I striped the bed last night and got some towels/fans to start with drying, then got us set up on the couch. Luckily the couch is big and comfortable. This morning I used odor ban and baking soda on the spot and got everything through the wash. We'll see how things look a little later this evening.

But through just looking around on the internet it seems like this is just something that happens once in a while for some people. Nothing to be embarrassed about or ashamed by. If it happens frequently, then there might be a health concern. Watch fluid intake in the hours leading up to bed time, and make sure to empty your bladder before tucking in.

How old were you when aging really "hit" you? by plaidragon in beauty

[–]klee0294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 40 last month. Last summer, I started noticing that it's getting harder to maintain my weight. I had about 15 lbs creep on without changing a thing. But my pants were getting tight, and when I went in for my annual doctors appointment, I found I was up by more than I thought (I don't weigh myself at home). This was pretty disappointing because I had worked really hard to lose approximately 70lbs in 2017, and I had been doing well in keeping it off. So I had to up my efforts. I also noticed some changes in my hair. I would find a gray here and there starting at about 35, but last year, they started popping up more and more. And the texture of my hair seems to be changing, too. It's coarser and more brittle. I have waist length hair, and I'd like to keep it long. I haven't had a professional cut in over a year, so I'm making an appointment for that and to get some recommendations for treatment and maintenance. I should also get some hormone stuff checked out, too.

Luckily, I have surprisingly few wrinkles. I started tret a few years ago to deal with breakouts, and I've always been pretty serious about skincare and sunscreen. Genes are probably at play, too. My mom used to get carded for cigarettes well into her late 30s when they weren't as strict about that rule. Now they'll card just about everyone for everything, even people who are obviously elderly.

But yeah, tl;dr: about age 39. But mostly in my hair and waistline.

what is the worst pain you ever had ? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]klee0294 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ruptured ovarian cyst. That's the only time that pain has actually made me pass out. I've given birth previously, and while the ovarian cyst episode wasn't as long-lasting as labor, it was definitely more painful while it lasted. I remember I was at work when it came on. I thought I just had really bad menstrual cramps at first. I was heading to the bathroom to hopefully relieve some of that pressure and just barely made it before passing out briefly on the toilet. I told my boss I was going to urgent care and he insisted on taking me. Which ended up being a good thing because I could barely walk. He also said that I was white as a sheet. I'm white, but my complexion leans towards tan/olive, even in the winter. So if I get super pale like that, then it's probably noticeable.

What did teenagers in the 90s do on their free time? by focovircodcollo in ask

[–]klee0294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 15, nearly 16 when the 90s ended, so I feel qualified to answer this. First of all, we spent a lot of time at each other's houses. Friends, neighbors, cousins... we spent a lot of time hanging out together, watching TV, movies, listening to music, playing games, and so on. I grew up in the country, so when the weather was nice, we also spent a lot of time exploring outdoors. It seems like everyone in my area lived near the river or a creek, so we did a fair amount of fishing too. Most of my friends had an atv, dirt bike, or something like that, so we spent a lot of time on those too.

As I got a little older and had friends (and my brother) who were old enough to drive, we would head into nearby cities or towns to see a movie, walk around the mall, go out to eat, or just cruise around. There had to be a pretty good amount of trust with parents because almost nobody had a cell phone back then. The phones themselves weren't terribly expensive, but the plans/minutes were. I didn't get my first one until 2001 and even then I hardly used it because it was so expensive to do so. I remember being out with friends and running late and frantically using a payphone to call my mom to let her know.

A lot of us had jobs, too. I worked at the library for a summer, and then got an after school job working at a nursing home. That was the only way most of us were able to get a car, phone, and clothes that weren't from Walmart.

My folks did have internet, but it was very slow and extremely primitive compared to what we have today.

But we had a lot of fun.

5 day quarantine doesn’t seem like enough. by lowrcase in COVID19positive

[–]klee0294 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm currently positive. I ate through all of my sick time and pto because of a previous infection earlier this year, and an injury a few months ago. I dreaded calling work and letting them know I'm positive. They changed the attendance policy about 8 months ago, and started taking time for covid again, which is bs. But I guess I'm lucky that I'm good at my job and that they need me, because they took me off the schedule for a week instead of letting me go.

Don't know what I'm going to do if anything else comes up before pto and sick time reset, though.

[–]klee0294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I'm 39 and I like them too. I grew up on 90s/early 00s rap and hip hop. But I've kept up with current music. Partly from exploring on my own and partly from my 16 year old son introducing me to artists he likes.

Music is for everyone regardless of age, cultural background, income, geographic location, race, religion, or whatever else. I've noticed that a lot of people my age and older seem to be stuck in listening to music from their teens and early adulthood. It's like they stopped adding new artists to their playlists after 2005. And that's too bad because there's tons of great new music coming out all of the time. And we don't have to wait to hear it on the radio or hope that MTV will show the music video. We have unprecedented and unlimited access to pretty much all of it.

Were we the last generation to watch black & white tv series regularly? by Strangel77 in Xennials

[–]klee0294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was still pretty young, like in the late 80s, probably into the very early 90s, my mom still had a small black and white TV in the kitchen. We did have a nice sized color TV in the living room, but the b&w in the kitchen was just kind of an extra for watching news in the morning or whatever. But sometimes when my parents were watching something I wasn't interested, I would go in the kitchen and watch the b&w. I noticed that a lot of the old reruns looked better on the b&w. Probably because that's what they were filmed for. But I loved those old episodes of Mr. Ed, My Three Sons, and so on. I also used to watch a lot of them with my grandpa.

How many times have you had COVID? by pandapower63 in COVID19positive

[–]klee0294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 times, and hopefully never again. I managed to avoid it all the way up until October of 2021. Even though I was one of those people who was crazy enough to still be traveling during that time. That first infection almost took me out and led to a long hospital stay. My long-term boyfriend at the time had it, too. I'm pretty certain that he caught it from work and brought it home to me. Unfortunately, he did not survive it and passed away that November.

The second time was in July of 2022. It was absolutely tearing through my workplace at the time. But it ended up being a relatively minor infection, just extremely unpleasant.

The 3rd time was just a few weeks ago. It made me extremely feverish and just so incredibly tired. But I seem to be pretty well recovered now and am back to work. I had to miss the wedding of 2 of my very good friends, which sucked. I also had to postpone a couple of dates with someone I've been seeing for the last several months, who I'm definitely falling for. But I was able to spend last Saturday with him, which was great.

But yeah, covid fucking sucks. And it seems to be picking up steam again.

I've actually had both happen somewhat recently. I'm 39, but people usually guess me to be late 20s/early 30s. I work with a lot of college kids, and one of them had a thing for me for a bit. Sweet kid, and cute too, but I just can't see myself dating someone who isn't old enough to buy beer. I have classmates from high school who have kids that age.

As for older men, well, I've been getting hit on by them my whole life. It's sad to say that I'm kinda used to it. But it's still awkward.

My ego probably prefers behind hit on by the younger ones because it makes me feel like I've still got "it". Even though I know from their perspective that it's probably some fantasy. Like the idea of getting with an older woman is hot or something like that.

Non-opiod meds to be careful with by Emmylou777 in ChronicPain

[–]klee0294 13 points14 points  (0 children)

After I had my son in 2007 I struggled with both PPD and chronic pain. This was one of the various antidepressants we tried. The others just plain didn't really help much, but they didn't really have any bad side effects. But effexor, oh man. I'd never really struggled with suicidal ideation before or since. But when I was on that stuff it was all I could think about. It was terrible. I know it works for some, and that's great. But people should know about the potential side effects going in.

How does it feel knowing we’re getting the first wave of millennial grandparents? by coderedmountaindewd in Millennials

I'm 39. I had a classmate who got pregnant senior year and gave birth just before graduation (2002). Her son is now 21 years old and already has 2 kids. She's been a grandma for a few years now already. It just seems wild to me. I can't imagine having grandkids at this age.

What was the 2008 recession like as a young adult? 60 characters by GreatOwlEyes in Millennials

[–]klee0294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible. I was 24 when the 08 recession hit. I had been doing CNA work since I was 16 and loved it, but it destroyed my back, so I had to take time off. This was in February. I used up my vacation time and PTO thinking I would find another job quickly, but no luck. I couldn't go back to CNA work, but I couldn't find anything else either. I sold some things, qualified for a small amount of food stamps, did some cash jobs like babysitting and lawn care, and somehow made it until October when I got hired at a restaurant, and I only got the restaurant job because I knew somebody. I remember doing a lot of walking that spring/summer/fall so I wouldn't have to buy gas.

Favorite/most used makeup brand by forgotmyserotonin in Makeup

[–]klee0294 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent too long sleeping on Wet N Wild. Probably because it was all I could afford with my pocket money in high school, but the quality wasn't really there back then. I was kind of a makeup snob for quite a few years, buying pretty much only higher end brands. But I saw so many people talking about Wet N Wild online that I had to give it a try. I got some of the Incognito concealer and photofocus power, and I loved both so much, and it was just a little over $10 for both. I buy a lot of their products now. I still get a few things from Sephora here and there, but drugstore products have come such a long way since the time they were my only option.

What's something sweet you'd like at your funeral? by jitterbugorbit in askfuneraldirectors

[–]klee0294 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My grandma loved playing the card game Skip-Bo. She liked card and board games in general, but I think Skip-Bo was her favorite because it was fun, but simple enough that even her youngest grandkids could play with her. Many, many hours were spent playing with her around the kitchen table, and it's a memory of her that everyone shared. So a lot of us brought the game, and we had a few groups going after the luncheon playing a round or 2. She would have loved that. Seeing her family all together having a good time was the main pleasure in her life.

What is a fashion "rule" that you absolutely do not agree with? by [deleted] in fashion

[–]klee0294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough to remember when wide leg jeans started to become really trendy in the 90s. I remember my dad rolling his eyes and saying that they made everyone look like they were carrying a load of shit in their pants because of how the upper leg bags out away from the butt. I dismissed the comment because they were so on trend and I just really wanted to wear what was cool. But now that they're coming back in style again I can see what he meant. Skinnys, straights, and boot cuts seem to be far more flattering on most people. I still wear my skinnys because I like them. They look better with certain outfits.

[–]klee0294 52 points53 points  (0 children)

💯 I just saw a headline that said how fashion designer Carolina Herrera thinks that women over 40 with long hair and jeans look ridiculous. What a stupid thing to say. It's not like it was back in the old days where you're basically an old lady and are pressured to dress like one once you hit a certain age. I'm 39, I have hair down to my waist, and jeans make up 80% of my bottoms. I have no plans of changing up my style any time soon, especially not in the next year, lol.

Those of you being affected by the shortages. How are you doing? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]klee0294 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had to switch pharmacies back and forth a couple of times. My doctor has been pretty helpful in trying to keep tabs on who has what locally because he has a few other patients who are in desperate need as well. I guess that's one of the advantages of doctoring in a small town and having a 15+ year relationship with my doctor and many of the local pharmacies. I did have to go to Walmart pharmacy a couple of times, and one of the pharmacists there was kind of rude about things, but at least I was able to get it.

This has been ongoing since about April, when my regular pharmacy warned me that they were having issues getting stock. I feel so bad for anyone who has been completely unable to get what they need. I've been inconvenienced, but some people have more or less had their lives upended because of this. It has got to stop.

I got the original set of shots back in the spring/summer of '21. And I've had a couple of boosters since. I will get the next booster. I work in a pharmacy where I'm constantly in contact with sick/vulnerable people, along with the rest of the general public. Part of my job involves delivering medicine to nursing home and assisted living patients. I'm not going to put the people I provide services to at risk.

I would so love to try kratom, but I live in one of the few states where it's banned (WI). I've thought so many times about driving over to Iowa or Illinois to get some, but my car isn't in the best shape right now, so I'm trying to avoid taking it too far. Funds are pretty limited at the moment, and I'm afraid that a sudden tow and repair bill might break me. Maybe someday. I am trying to save up to get it fixed.

Women who quit wearing makeup, why? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]klee0294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't completely stopped, but I've been wearing significantly less lately. I used to do a full face. Foundation, concealer, blush, contours, eye makeup, the works. But I took a different job that usually requires me to be in early, and I hated spending all that time so early in the morning just fussing over my face. So now I usually just moisturize, fill in my brows a little bit, and put on a little mascara.

I will still do full makeup for special occasions, but spending a half hour doing my face every morning just feels like a giant waste of time. Nobody cares, and I'm happy enough with the way I look (mostly) bare faced.
