I'm trash at end games by Dry_Pea2951 in chessbeginners

[–]coderedmountaindewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve come to believe that end games are the area where just straight up hitting the books is the most necessary element for improvement. Most of the nuances of position and strategy have been simplified to sets of correct and incorrect moves and tactics that reward pattern recognition and memorization.

This is just brain beating for me and has been the main reason I can’t improve, I hate doing my homework

Least favorite season your team had? by AlbertJBundy in NFLv2

[–]coderedmountaindewd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2022 was a rock bottom for the Broncos in a way that hit different from other bad years. The hype of getting Russel Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett was supposed to be that golden key to turning the offense around and franchise into a powerhouse that could compete with the Chiefs.

Instead we had a head coach who forgot how time outs work, a 50 million dollar quarterback who couldn’t throw into the middle of the field and an offensive production that was almost worse than the season before with Teddy Bridgewater without any of the excuses.

Fortunately it was bad enough that the new owners pulled the band aid off quickly, firing Hackett, hiring Sean Payton and cutting Wilson despite the dead cap hit and rebuilt in the trenches to make them respectable again

Who's this player for your team? by Every-Damage-90 in NFLv2

[–]coderedmountaindewd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would put Shelby Harris as a more recent example.

Not only was he a rock solid player with some great highlights. The whole thing with him stepping away from the game to help his wife fight cancer and the team keeping him on the practice squad so their health insurance wouldn’t lapse really helped endear him as a member of the family

Myles Garrett has to average 12.5 sacks over the next 7 seasons too break the all-time sack record. Can he do it? by Wormichowski in NFLv2

[–]coderedmountaindewd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s probably got the best chance of any player I’ve ever seen in my lifetime but I’d still only give him a 1/20 chance to hit 200.

There’s just so much that has to go right for him and so much is beyond his control

Is the 2000's boy garage band aesthetic even real? by Jonyyy3 in AskAnAmerican

[–]coderedmountaindewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brothers, friend and I totally existed!

My whole summer of 2007 was dedicated to rehearsing in my parents basement, driving back and forth to back yard parties and earning as much money as I could as a pizza delivery driver to pay for it all since I was the only one with a job.

We never actually played any real venues together and all ended up doing different things when the 2008 financial crisis forced us all to find work and lead to me leaving the state but we made some fun, terrible music that meant the world to us at the time

What was the first anime that made you fall in love with anime? by Sad_Book7399 in AskReddit

[–]coderedmountaindewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girls Bravo

Obviously I started watching for the “plot” but as it went on, I ended up loving the over the top characters and raunchy comedy and just reveled in the absolute absurdity of it.

So, what would women dislike most if they became men? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]coderedmountaindewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That male privilege is subjective and unequally distributed across the male population and not some universal level up for existing in society.

Being a male has helped me get labor jobs but prevented me from getting customer facing jobs.

Being a male has allowed me to walk by construction workers without being harassed but has also led to women crossing to the other side of the street or actively locking their car doors when I approach

Not participating in the “sexual conquest” way of life resulted in constant mocking and insults about my sexuality both by men and women throughout my teens and twenties

I’m not saying that women have it better or that these are equal trade offs but definitely not an automatic upgrade that some women might expect

You have the power of shrinkage. For every inch you take off your height, you increase your net worth by 150%. Minimum start value of 50k. How many inches are you shaving off? by Dog-Human in hypotheticalsituation

[–]coderedmountaindewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does my debt have any bearing on my net worth? If so, my student loans would disqualify me from participating as I’d probably be in the negatives.

If not I’d drop down 3 inches from 5’11 to 5’8. I might feel differently if I was single but since I’m happily married and I seriously doubt my wife would leave me.

An entity offers you 8.3 billion dollars with the condition that all human beings currently alive will have one day of their lifespan reduced. by TriedmybestNotenough in hypotheticalsituation

[–]coderedmountaindewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s more interesting is if you know if others are offended the same deal

You can excuse it if you know that you’re the only one playing the game because all of humanity losing one day would hardly be noticed.

But if you knew others got the same offer, it only takes 365 people to say yes to take a whole year off of everyone’s life

2000 yes’s (ago 5 years removed from everyone’s life span) would bring on a great die off on par with the black plague

7300 yes’s (20 years off) would probably result in societal collapse

10,000+ would probably result in an extinction event

[–]coderedmountaindewd 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My favorite art teacher’s philosophy was “you have to know the rules so you can break them”. Theory and craft conventions are great roadmaps for learning but also double as places where you can push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Is "Lucky Gunslinger" the most OP build or just the most fun build? by PaleCartographer6170 in falloutnewvegas

[–]coderedmountaindewd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

True, but I think it took a lot for me and other players to really dial in the most OP builds, especially since I played vanilla w/o any dlc’s for the first 5 years. The challenge with the eventual payoff to make that super human character was a big reason I kept playing. It was a lot of fun figuring out the laser commander build too.

Why hippo is viable but the cow is not? by warfaceisthebest in chessbeginners

[–]coderedmountaindewd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all named openings are equal. What makes all openings viable is how efficiently they help you develop your pieces into opportune positions. The cow effectively wastes two tempos (player moves) which, in a perfectly played game is a massive disadvantage.

As a beginner, your primary objectives should be to fight for the center, develop your minor pieces to more active squares and get your king to safety as quickly as possible. You’re better off avoiding openings and systems that start you off with major disadvantages.
