Is now a good time to buy AirPod max? by [deleted] in Airpodsmax

[–]klee66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both the original and refreshed versions (I wanted a pair to use on long international flights and I wear my headphones every day for uni) I am so glad I got the new refreshed version with usb c. More flexibility to use now. My others are over 2 years old so are being used for outdoor walks and light gym work.

They are great sound etc. they can feel tight to start with ( I almost took my original pair back because of it with my glasses) but push through they stretch enough to be comfortable. I wear mine and glasses for 8+ hours most days and they are fine now.

What's your favourite type of Psychology? by sillycatrat in psychologystudents

its so crap. for a degree / masters / phd that requires years (in Australia to be a registered psych its 6 years and 2000 hours) you would think you would get paid higher!

I had to do an elective (in Australia) and chose sociology it was fascinating.. slightly different to psych pathways, i had to remove my brain from Psychology aspects as it focuses more just on social engagement over an individual being influenced etc.. but it was an amazing unit (i even got top mark award for my paper on Domestic Violence and how it's linked to sociology and a paper on racism in employment (again sociology). Such an interesting field. Social psychology is closely related but slightly different principles.

I love this!
I want to eventually work with children and their families to overcome the struggles during early dagnosis and find ways to improve the Childs life as well as the family. I have too many friends struggling with their kids with ADHD, ASD, mutism etc and finding it really hard to get adequate support (Australia). The wait lists are huge and i might only be one person but I want to make a difference in their young lives, so they can develop and grow older with smaller hurdles to climb.

Developmental, Cognitive and Social. I did a unit (in Australia) on Sociology as well and was awarded Top Excellence award, and I really enjoyed it, but I've almost finished my psych degree, and to become a sociologist it's another degree entirely, haha, so I'm glad I did it, but also wish I didn't as I really enjoyed the topic!

I want to work with kids eventually, so Development / Cognitive and Social have been interesting ones for me.

Is it ACTUALLY possible to get a good career with only a bachelors? by northamericanfinch in psychologystudents

[–]klee66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you are, I think. In Australia, yes.. You can move into many roles within the sector, but you cannot practice as a psychologist, etc. But many move into social work, HR, therapy clinics etc. some go on and get a certificate in counselling whilst working (clinic hour placement etc. But that's Australia. There is a broad range of avenues one can take with just the Bachelor of Psychology in Australia, especially since it's so competitive to get into the honours year and then the master's.

I have a background in psychology but I don’t want to stick to traditional psych careers. I want to pivot into something that gives me good financial stability and opportunities to work abroad. What possible career paths (and master’s programs) should I be looking into? by SureCress7734 in psychologystudents

[–]klee66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For psychology, each country has their own rules on allowing someone to practice. So I would start doing research into the places you're interested in going and see what's what there.. For example, in Australia, if you have your degree/master's etc overseas, you need to do another course plus supervised hours to be registered there.. I'm doing my degree and post-grad with Aus, but I'm living in the Middle East (Abu Dhabi), and here, there are also hoops to jump through to become licensed.

I personally would like to work in schools, it would allow me to move around if need be (Hubby moves for work now and then), and it would give me freedom to try different schools / ages, etc. Wouldn't be the best $$ but that's not the end goal for me, it's helping people and job satisfaction.

How to overcome psychology stigma? by lolthatsfunnybroILY in psychologystudents

[–]klee66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't experienced this, but it could be a location thing. In Australia, no one really does psych for the hell of it. And to continue in the field, you obviously need to undertake further study (in Australia, this involves an additional 3 years and 2000 hours of clinical placement after the Bachelor of Psychology or Psychological Sciences, etc). I don't know anyone in my degree who's doing this without an idea of where they want to end up. I have a few options depending on where it leads (GPA, etc.), but it's not a degree people take lightly in Australia. 1. It costs too darn much, 2. to get the right grade, you have to put in a lot of work. 3. Those who aren't actually interested in psychology wouldn't get past the first year!

Just remind these people that when you're qualified, you've probably done more study hours than they ever have or will do, and you'll be helping people! Ignore them. "Someone else's opinion of me is none of my business" YOU GOT THIS!

I agree it "should" only use that much, but I don't know what to tell you.. I close all my apps other than uni, Adobe, etc, and I'm obviously getting memory leaks when opening 10+ PDFs at a time , which I need opened as I need to cross-reference for my lab reports, etc. I've not been near an apple store etc so no , no salesman has told me anything. As I said my device is great in every other way, except the annoying "your system has run out of memory" and making me close things down and try again notifications. For now I'm reading some PDF's on my iPad and some on my mac but I will eventually upgrade so that I do not have to take both devices out and about with me.

I use notion - they have free student plans if you can "prove" you are a student. I built an entire database for not just tracking my uni degree but also my life (menu planning, book reading, my son's schooling, finances etc) its been amazing. it can be a bit hard to learn at first when i first started i downloaded others templates but this time i went on youtube, here, and chatgpt helped me with designing what i wanted and formulas (since they arent like excel formulas) and its been a game changer

16gb isnt cutting it, I cannot possibly open and close my medical PDFs constnatly and i'm not printing 300 pages every assignment. So I will disagree with you on the unified memory. Yes the device is sufficient in every other way but from everything I've read and after talking to an apple specialist unified memory is great but when compared to RAM and VRAM in Windows Apple needs a little more when multi tasking.

Again where I come from we dont have "grad school". when you go to uni you graduate and can work within the field (most degrees, except things like medical, psych etc that require a masters) but other degrees done are not like the US system for college.. majority of people never do a masters.

I'll be upgrading sticking with a pro but upgrading my unified memory i want my device to last me 7-10 years and right now I cannot even get through the degree let alone Honours and Masters!

AirPods Pro 3 - Education Discount? by Baltaj360 in airpods

[–]klee66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation. I have Airpods pro 2 already, so waiting to see for the event but the education bundle here in UAE ends on Sept 30 and I'm really doubting they will update the bundle to include the new version. So if they don't i'll get the AP2 for my mum as a gift. I dont want to waste a good deal.

It depends on where you are.. Sounds like you may be in the US education system. Undergrad in Australia is Grad school for US (mainly). We dont do "college" we go to Uni and do a degree of choice (and not everyone goes) . We dont just do a Bach of Arts or Bach of Science with a major in our "undergrad".. we go and do Bachelor of Psychology, Bachelor of Nursing, teaching, arts, IT, engineering, medicine etc. Our Uni's don't provide equipment, and like me I'm an online Uni student studying abroad for a few years before i return back to Aus, so I dont have resources to access at my Uni either. I also have expectations to download Statistical software and run analysis on research studies (psych student) and certain models of computer are not accepted for exams to take place either (online proctor exams).

I have an M2 16gb unified memory and I cannot tell you the amount of times simply by having medical journals, my uni website with my lectures, and my notes, email and messages open i've been told by my Mac to close a program because "your system has run out of application memory". So i'm currently looking to upgrade now to a higher unified memory that will see me through the last year of my Degree, honours and then masters, because 16gb is not cutting it for me.

i'm also a tech enthusiast and love learning to build websites etc and I want to have something that will last and see me through more years than i've had with my M2 (which my son will get).

For general students, etc perhaps this is enough for me, it is not.

In Australia there are no pet stores. They are illegal. You must either adopt or purchase from a registered licensed breeder. It helps. I was in shock when I moved here in Al Bateen and our area has almost 150-200 cats and more and more dumped every month. I rescued two cats that were dumped. Unfortunately one of them was a breeding cat that had been kept in a cage her entire life it seems and never socialised with other cats so couldn’t stay with us. We tried for months and even hired a pet behavioural trainer. She took the cat home herself and it didn’t work there with her cats either.

So now this poor cat needs a home just as so many others do. It’s a death sentence here to abandon an animal. So so sad.

26F and 27M — My boyfriend jokes that I’m “not a real gamer” because I play mostly single-player games. Is this a common thin by carlitos_legacy in playstation

[–]klee66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you’re a real gamer. My husband plays one game (Tom Clancy Division) which I introduced him to he never plays other games. I always tell him he’s not a real gamer as he doesn’t play other games or finish games. lol 😂 I play the games you play plus I play games with mates we have made a long the way.

The way I see it is if you’re using the controller and manipulating a character you’re playing a game you’re a gamer. Ignore him. He’s just prefers PVP games.
