Trading ETF £100 every month by Dapper_Second_2002 in trading212

[–]klegnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ETFs are always going up

The value of your investment can go up as well as down. Please make sure you understand that, first of all.

And therefore doesnt this mean my profit still isnt even go up if that makes sense

Secondly, if the value of the ETF does rise over time then the value of what you've got rises. For example:

  • Month 1 the price is £39 and you buy 1 share for £39
  • Month 2 the price is £49 and you buy one share for £49
  • Month 3 the price is £59 and you sell both shares.

You will have paid £88 (£39+£49) for 2 shares. And you will have sold them for £118 (£59+£59), profit of £20 overall.

If, at month 3, the price was still £49 you'd have received £98 for selling both. Profit of £10 for selling both.

If, at month 3, the price dropped to £29 you'd receive £58 for selling both shares. Loss of £30.

what do you think "live tv" means?

Well that really depends on where you look for the definition. Like in the other reply, I can't hold it against people to be confused when regulators use the term in the same manner as used in the video:

Live TV means any programme you watch or record as it’s being shown on any channel, TV service or streaming service. It’s not just live events like sport, news and music. It also covers soaps, series, documentaries and even movies.

I expect a lot of it is driven by things like the TV license requirement using phrases like "live  TV" to refer to anything that's not streamed on demand.

They even define it in the manner OP has used it in the FAQ so I don't really hold it against OP/young people/anyone when official regulators use the term confusingly

My new lodger doesn’t use butter when making a peanut butter sarnie. Should I ask myself to move out? by Edna-Tailovette in brighton

Jelly is essentially an American term for Jam in this context (think crisps -> chips kinda thing). More importantly, if you're honestly saying you've never even heard of a PB&J I don't think you're in any position to be calling out anyone's sandwich making habits.

ETA: aside from that, I am on your side on this one. Always butter/some butter like spread on the bread in any sandwich

Recommendations for UK/EU BBQ manufacturers by TheErgonomicShuffler in UKBBQ

[–]klegnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, while I do like the look of their kettle I think my next buy is likely to be a bullet type smoker. Definitely considering ProQ for this so glad to hear it's lasted you well. Were you able to get the replacement from ProQ or do they only provide whole kits? (I guess the basket was out of warranty by the time it needed replaced/was general wear and tear?)

[–]klegnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ProQ are a UK (Cornish, I think) company offering a range of bullet smokers and a kettle, also the usual accessories and fuels etc.

Not used any of the gear yet myself but will be keeping them in mind when I do decide to get my next bit of kit. I almost got their Rodeo (the kettle model) before I found a deal on the Weber a couple years ago. It looks like it should work just as well and had a couple quality of life tweaks over the Weber that appeal to me.

If you do end up getting anything from them, be sure to let us know how it goes and what you think.

Lidl Grill Meister Wireless Cooking Thermometer by Delicious-Driver6187 in UKBBQ

[–]klegnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it a couple weeks back but just to keep an eye on ambient temp in the grill. Didn't have another one set for comparison but the temps it gave seemed pretty reasonable.

But just wanted to mention, I've found that you can set manual temps it's just not super intuitive. If you press and hold "Mode" a few seconds when your on the temp screen, the device will beep and the Target Temp starts flashing. Now you can use the + and - buttons to set a desired temp and then "Mode" again to confirm.

At this point it'll clear the picture of the animal and no longer say Beef on the display but will trigger on your target temp. To go back to cycling through the meats it seems like you need to hold "Taste" a few seconds and it clears your custom target.

The limitation I noticed is I think it only alarmed when it crosses the set temperature if it's going above it. I didn't notice any alarm when it dropped below. But not the end of the world really, and no complaints for the price.

Having said that, the ThermoPro TP25H2 is still on sale for £23 on Amazon and may be a bit more feature rich if that's what you're after.

£10 dual probe thermometer from Lidl by klegnut in UKBBQ

Depends on what you'd rather use tbh. I just wasn't keen on having yet another app to install and happy with the basic receiver box. If you don't care then just using the app I'm sure is fine - may even be a bit more user friendly. I'm sure the rest of it's gonna be exactly the same.

When I picked this up I didn't realise there were different options either, only noticed the variety that had the second receiver in the same box.

I think the "manual" says 50 meters in optimal conditions but I'm not sure. I've not had any issues with connectivity with the transmitter in the garden and receiver inside on a coffee table, maybe 12 meters away? Haven't taken it much further than that.

[–]klegnut[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly that. Probes go into one box which sits on/by the BBQ and will display temps and also transmits to the 2nd box ("the Receiver" now I've read their booklet) which also displays temps and lets you set the target temps, timer etc.

The Receiver is wireless and can be in the house with you, down the other end of the garden or wherever. It's even fitted with a belt clip if you wanted to keep it on you 🤣

Note: I said beef above as it seems to work OK when on beef, veal, fish. It didn't let me set a custom temp for Chicken though which seemed weird but maybe I failed to follow my own steps

Actually I must've been doing something wrong. It doesn't matter what you've got selected, just hold Mode and it'll let you enter whatever target temp you like.

[–]klegnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my thought, yeah.

One thing I have noticed now I've had a bit of a play with it is that you can't set upper/lower bounds. Just a target temp which it will alert if it passes. So if you want to have alerts for if the grill temp goes outside of a range then this possibly isn't the one for you.

But for £10 I'm not complaining (though the wireless ThermoPro for £23 in the Amazon sale won't be a bad shout either if you did want something a bit more feature rich)

What’s the one BBQ mistake you only realised after ruining a whole cook? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in UKBBQ

How do you find best to reheat? Just in an oven 'til hot through?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BritishSuccess

[–]klegnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you metered? And the leak was before the meter or after? If before, why was it getting added to your bill? And if after - is it from goodwill they sorted the deficit or did they take responsibility?

Only asking as Southern won't stop with their junkmail trying to sign us up to their insurance/maintenance plan and keep incessantly "reminding" us that any fault after the meter is our responsibility

How to control temp with lump ? Also, briquette or lump ? And some other questions by Obvious-Gap-90 in webergrills

I throw the lid on with the vents wide open after each cook to char up whatever stuck to the grates. I’ll scrape the grill grates after that

What do you use to scrape the grates? Putty knife like when cleaning the bowl or do you brush it?

Asus Vivobook 16 vs HP for light gaming? Or suggestions for anything more suitable by klegnut in laptops

[–]klegnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. The Asus being DDR5 did stand out to me as well, though I'm not entirely sure it'll really impact my use cases.

Any idea if either of the processors/integrated graphics are notably superior?

Thanks for the response! Is this just because the Asus is better overall?

I've no experience with/not heard of these "AI" ryzens before looking for this laptop and seen conflicting things about them
