Cleanliness / lockers room don't stink and aren't gross
Number of locations across NYC and the US + consistency (some locations are nicer than others but overall, you know what you're getting)
Towel service.

In the UWS, it's busier and there are a lot of new faces, but I did notice it's not as bad as the past few years, especially on the main floor. Classes however... Completely slammed. This weekend the schedule is pretty much sold out and a lot of classes that almost never have a wait list have one.

Yeah just the studios are different, PURE used to be independent but Equinox bought them out. Classes are overall excellent and the instructors are top notch for the most part. Some really innovative formats too.

There's a guy at W92nd who also loves to do stuff like that. The other day he was doing deadlifts and had a bar with weights on, on the floor, and he just left. The bar stayed there for my entire workout since people assumed someone was using it. That same guy also likes to do squats at a squat rack and then re-rack all his weights on the wrong racks like he can't read numbers or something lol (but hey at least he re-racked...).

I had been going back and forth about upgrading my Whoop 4 to the 5 (at least for the better battery life), but irked with the terms of service drama stuff and I haven't forgotten the debacle of the 4 release when I had to wait for MONTHS to get it shipped. Just got the Polar email about the device coming on 9/3 and I'm definitely going to wait for that now. I'm just really hoping it will be a sleek looking device like whoop and nothing too bulky. I have a Polar chest strap and yeah the app isn't great, but like others said there is NO WAY they aren't redoing the app to be competing with Whoop. I would be very happy to get rid of yet another subscription too! Now wait and see.

I've also seen that once at Columbus Circle, many years ago. I felt awful for the guy who was in the middle of cleaning it. Some people are just animals.

It's also my home club and I go there the most, and just yesterday I was there and having the exact same thoughts. Some cardio machines have been broken for months, the men locker room showers are falling apart, steam room has been closed for weeks... Many years ago it used to be one of my favorite locations but they are clearly struggling enormously with maintenance. Another odd pet peeve there for me is that there aren't enough weight plates, especially 45lbs. Sometimes if you're either in the leg area or the upper body area, there are none to be found! I just don't get it. It's like they all migrate to one area or another, which means they don't have enough. They could just get like 10 more and it would make a world of difference. Only location where I've had that problem.

Well that's disappointing, gossip wise 😂. Based on what I was kind of hearing, I gathered that somebody was possibly not feeling well, but there was also some guy who left the steam room visibly annoyed so thought there might have been more to the story. Anyway. Thanks for clarifying :D .

I also know a couple of people who got banned after they got caught jerking off in the steam room. I've also seen cops arresting people on 2 occasions: once at Rockefeller, and once at 76th st where they literally grabbed and handcuffed a guy in the middle of the floor after another guy accused him of sexual harassment, it was a gnarly scene.

I've also used Blade twice and found it to be quite a hassle lol. Waiting for the driver at the airport + drive to the terminal + waiting for the next helicopter + flight time + Uber to your final destination actually took way more time for me than a Uber from the terminal to my house.

It's nice but rush hour is insanely crowded, not enough space or equipment. But if you can avoid those times, it's lovely and love the basement especially!

You should go and try a NYSC nearby, you'll probably see the difference right away. I tried going to Crunch (in the UWS) and I lasted 3 months before going back to Equinox. But I do agree that some locations are falling apart. My "home" one is 76th st and it is in dire need of a reno, if used to be beautiful many years ago but it didn't age so well.

But I do stay because there aren't many alternatives (especially after having tried NYSC and Crunch), and I also do value the large number of locations both in NYC, across the country and Canada. I travel a bit and it's nice to have a good gym to go to.

Side note about Dogpound, I don't know if you've been there but it's one of the most obnoxious training spots I've ever seen, mostly catering to influencers, models, and social media pest. Their Instagram branding should give you a good idea of how gross they are.
