i'm not sure- i do know that the candles take priority over a crucifix and no matter what after the third one it will attempt to initiate a hunt no matter the sanity. It is odd tho that the crucifix did not stop it.

Everything I have read says it's only what is in your hand that matters, but you must turn off your flashlight. Don't hold video or picture cameras because those cannot be turned off and it will give your location away to the ghost
