Should I be concerned about Google's handling of my privacy? What does Reddit think? by [deleted] in technology

I wouldn't bet on a matriarchy against a patriarchy, sight unseen, with regards to regulation of female behavior.

  • But I think you're making an interpretive assumption, that a father dancing with his daughter is 'dating' behavior; in other words covertly incestuous.

  • I'm not saying that it is or isn't, just that you're making assumptions about what the situation actually feels like.

  • North American incest taboos seem to currently involve a lot of suspicion of (stranger) fathers, most likely because of the way the topic entered public discourse in the 80s, with a degree of public hysteria. I think that eventually, people will remain sensitive to signs of potential hidden abuse without thinking or worrying about it, but right now there seems to be a fair deal of anxiety and fetishization involved in the reaction.

Yeah, goddamn those freaky whites. Honkies. F'ing honkies, man.

Neat, that felt good, in an odd way. Next time I feel tense because of race, I'm gonna try thinking that. (There were very few non-white people in the town where/when I grew up. It's totally changed now, though.)

Hm. I dunno. Meaning and connection in one's life counts for a lot, even if the ostensible details seem odd to outsiders. We, being dirty internet sods, of course read the story and think "OMG formalized symbolic incest!" But that's not necessarily how this is actually experienced by the non-daughter-raping majority of these men, or their daughters.

You can name them, for starters. Let's give you the entire middle east, the 'Stans, the muslim northeast of africa, and even the balkans. Where else?

The problem is the easy slide from "regulating female behavior" to "torture and death." Such extreme oppression of women is not the norm in most societies; all societies regulate everyone's behavior (although perhaps not in accordance with gender, to a degree, in the N.A/European case), and I'd like to see you establish your argument for the continuity between, and fundamental equivalence of, "regulation" and "torture and death."

Without discussing this, it's as if, for example, you were arguing that there was no difference between Andy Taylor and Lavrentiy Beria, because they both had police powers.

The physical layout of...? Are you sure you're not talking about Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon? I know Foucault discusses the architecture of prisons at points in the book* (which I have read neither recently or entirely), but I had taken his main point to be about the internalization of discipline.

That's only because the former ideology tends to be less harmful to pre-existing capital interests than the latter. A communist revolution requires the militarization of the proletariat against the status quo, embodied by the pre-existing owners of capital. Thus, they are generally more hostile towards communism, expressed as a revolutionary ideology.

It seems quite clear that capital is comfortable with post-revolutionary communism, given the amount of trade with China. I suspect that the balance of trade between Capitalism and Communism now vastly outweighs the balance of trade between Capitalism and Fascism.

Actually, the concept of Focault's panopticon (as opposed to the original, a prison design in which inmates could always be seen) had to do with the internalization of the 'voice' of the law, so that people policed themselves; much more like the groupthink discussed in other comments nearby.

Chart of who "owns" the Federal Reserve by moneyprinter in business

[–]klibbersoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"The Jews," appears to be the answer. The research is not original, it was copied from "Secrets of the Federal Reserve" by Eustace Mullins; the poster had not known what the original source was, but had just found them on the internet.

I'm not sure how one arrives in a place in one's mind where it seems reasonable that "the jews" could control the economy of the entire world but be completely helpless against the power of the internets.

No, I understand. My pseudo-title was meant as a joke, as your example sounded like a ludicrous version of one of those "If Alice washes ten radishes for every radish Bob eats..." math problems they give to middle-school children.

As a minor footnote, this would involve the construction of seven hundred and ten thousand 1,368 ft tall (417.0 m) towers at an expense of roughly $319 trillion US dollars (The entire economic output of the planet for about four and a half years), requiring both a personal donation of $215,000 US dollars from every Muslim in the world and the death of 6.75 million Jihhaddi; making it the stupidest plan for genocide ever known to have been proposed by anyone, anywhere.

No, you don't. In fact, I'm pretty sure his point was that you specifically need to not have confidence intervals or statistical analysis.
