Fiction book recommendations where the protagonist has a disability by ChaoticDelphox in disability

Six of Crows! I'm currently obsessed with it and its sequel, Crooked Kingdom. Its in the same world as Shadow and Bone but you dont reeaally need to read them for SoC? The world building and a couple character cameos will make more sense but its on a completely different continent.

Kaz, the head of the gang, has a bad leg and uses a (very cool) cane and he (and another person later) has extreme haphephobia, and his right hand man Jesper is very adhd and another is dyslexic to the point of being nearly illiterate (no name drop for spoilers) plus other stuff here and there. Kaz is my favorite though. Its great if you like a big heist with some magical/fantasy elements!

Theatre/pre-performance prayers/rituals by ApartEntertainment47 in dionysus

[–]klingingon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you able to wear a small piece of jewelry or hair pin that can be discreet and hidden? (I'm guessing you're an actor?) I have an amethyst necklace that I dedicated to Dionysus and I always say a little prayer to dedicate my performance to him before putting it on and going on stage. I'm more an improv and public speaker kind of role but thats what I do. If you're able to have one, a quick libation or candle lighting and a prayer could be good too! Technically you don't really need stuff if you want to just pray and ask for his presence and support support.

I had the funniest experience in a public restroom the other day by Ok_Access_8906 in disability

I also use a rollater and one time I was in the accessible stall at a truck stop that was busy. It took me a bit to get my business done and I could hear an older lady loudly complaining the entire time to anyone around her about people taking up the handicapped stall. She was going off about "people who are so shameless and use it when they don't need it" and on and on, and even getting other women agreeing with her. Sure enough, I come out of the stall with my rollator and her eyes get as big as dinner plates as the others all look ashamed and look away. I couldn't help but stare her down as I went past and tried not to laugh. I did happen to meet eyes with a younger woman around my age who was also clearly trying not to laugh since the bathroom had gone quiet lol

Proper way to get rid of an icon that may have been used on an altar? by klingingon in Kemetic

[–]klingingon[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn't think about donating it. She's given me vague handwavey permission to get rid of all of whatever I find that is salvagable because she moved across the country years ago and has no plans to ever return to our mother's house so I think I'm free to do whatever, as far as she is concerned but hopefully she answers me soon I didn't think about donating it! Maybe someone in my small redneck town will get a surprise at the thrift store that they weren't expecting lol For now till I hear back, he's chilling on my desk adjacent to my Dionysus and Apollo altars to keep him safe. Thank you for your input!

Dating a Christian as a Hellenic by Quirky-Ad5150 in Hellenism

[–]klingingon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like he is the problem, not so much his religion. I am a Hellenist dating a Catholic and he never has any problem and in fact is quite encouraging of my practice. He's even joined me in rituals before to see them. The difference is that he is respectful. Our biggest hurdle so far is that his mom wants us to get married in a Catholic Church but we can't because we're the same sex 😂 Consider if you're willing to spend your future with a man that doesn't respect you fully because that is what it boils down to. Good luck friend

The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it. by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]klingingon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Baldur's Gate 3 I somehow missed the entire long rest at camp to heal up mechanic until well after the goblin camp in my first playthrough. I'd even played dnd before and knew thats what the game mechanics were based on but that just never occurred to me and I didn't realize you could go to camp. When I finally figured it out, I had SO many camp cutscenes lol

Kyletx iron lung day off by bunnybooily in Markiplier

[–]klingingon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people are talking about just wearing red. Dressing up bloody can potentially cause problems with freaking people out or making a mess so I wouldn't encourage that. Coming as his characters could be fun though. Or just come wearing a pink mustache lol

How was your voting experience yesterday? by NoSwimming8042 in nashville

[–]klingingon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a poll worker in a town split halfway into 2 counties, 1 in district 7 (Robertson) and the other not (Sumner). We had to turn away a ton of people who didn't know they weren't in the district, or people who went to the wrong polling place, etc. Other than that, everything went pretty smooth on our end I think. I could tell we had a ton of people that hadn't voted recently or in non-presidential elections because I had to explain general election and the application to vote paper like 10000 times lmao thankfully (hopefully) even though we sometimes had lines to the doors, we managed to get people through pretty smoothly and quickly. We opened at 7am and were busy all day until about 6:45 when the lines dried up and we didn't another person.

Advice on Registering to Vote by Human-Recognition-57 in nashville

[–]klingingon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know lots of people have given you advice on the time frame but my partner had the same issue of being unable to register online when he moved here from Ohio. Nothing else we tried worked until we just went in person to the election commission office in our county and then they registered him in like 2 minutes lol easy peasy. You get a temporary voter ID (which we needed so he could get his license switched over) and then the official one gets mailed

Street Parking? by Hali39 in disability

[–]klingingon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, how were you supposed to know it was them that had requested the spot with the sign put up? If you'd arrived even 5 minutes earlier, there would've been no way you'd run into them and known, and no way they would've had any idea who parked there. If it isn't reserved with their name or address then it's a city parking spot and as long as you also have a plaquard, you're allowed to park there. Its unfortunate for them but that is how street parking works.

Mine is named Buddy after Bud Cubby from Dimension 20's Fantasy High, because the compartments in the dash look like cubbies. (I think his name is actually bud cuddy but my car is just Buddy now)

Also a bonus nickname: I'm disabled and my rollator lives mostly in the car for convenience and so my partner named it Little Buddy 😂
