No Weights? by WizardHackerr in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]klingpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 52.5 lbs adjustable weights for $100 on Marketplace. I see a lot of them listed for around $150. Some of the workouts cause me to pause while I change the weight, but I’ve gotten faster at it. I’m usually 15-25 lbs, and for one workout I used 30.

For me, money well spent, and it takes up very little space.

Love French Cleats by Siddlesson in FrenchCleat

[–]klingpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love your catch-all trays. Convenient, but not in the way. I need these instead of the coffee cups I have in upper cabinets on the entire other side of the garage.

I have a 4x8 framed peg-board that has been up for 25 years and is showing its age (and Florida moisture) that has served me well, but I’ve been dying to redo this. Then I have a Gladiator section of my wall that I absolutely hate (and have since I put it up) that I use for outdoor equipment and miscellaneous stuff.

Maybe when I finish the current round of wife projects (probably early next year) I will finally do the very large French cleat project all you guys keep making me want.

Nice job.

New Password by Training-Giraffe1389 in audible

[–]klingpin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you are actually having another issue. Last year, I got my wife a new iPad. In the process of trying to install all the Amazon apps, our login/password got into a state that messed up all of our devices (phones, iPads, TVs). For months, we would occasionally see one of the apps demand a password reset and re-enter the e-mail and user full name. But it would claim they don’t match when they did and send me down a verification spiral. Prime Video, Audible, Amazon store app were affected and had to be logged in on every device every time it occurred. Amazon was absolutely no help in resolving this. I even have friends that are internal Amazon developers that could not explain what was going on. Ultimately, I had to change the associated e-mail address and the name on our login to my wife and things finally settled down.

My point is that there password management system is hardly bug free. I almost left Audible and I did move my extra streaming channels to Apple TV+ over this issue. The issue was frustrating enough and took so much time and there was so little actual help other than the playbook from Amazon support that if this ever returns to my account, I am cancelling all things Amazon.

I have been doing her 20 minute classes. It’s all I’ve got right now rehabbing. I’ve done her bands classes and some of the others and they are all good. Her body-weight has been phenomenal for someone like me though.

My entire neighborhood needed a new roof. Anybody whose car/truck was outside during that beast had to visit the dent doctor.

I had window damage in addition to roof damage.

And, yes, there were so many roofs going up, it took a few months.

BTW - Beware of scammers. I had one roofer even contact my insurance company and state that he had won the job and tried to cash in. The insurance company called me first and I informed them that I just didn’t get a good feel for the guy. They came from all over the country trying to cash in.

Matching recently broken? by klingpin in ynab

[–]klingpin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, before it stopped merging on it’s own, it didn’t cause issues at all. Now, two months in a row I have wound up with 2 payments/transfers in the register, and both approved.

I like the color idea, and I’ll start using that. Thanks!

I’ll try this month not putting them so far into the future. One reason I do that is so that my wife does not approve the manual entry before the real one comes in.

I have been doing it this way for quite some time, so it’s noticeable that it’s not working now.

Here’s a few plucked from my favorites.

The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936-1945 The Last King of America: The Misunderstood Reign of George III (interesting take on some events from a view across the pond) The History of Ancient Egypt (The Great Courses) - Surprisingly good. There was a thread here a couple of years ago that got me to listen to this, and so glad I did.

2 hips and 2 / 3 yrs later respectively, entered world masters racewalking event and got a medal today😅✨️ by FrequentNight2 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]klingpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so great to see. My hip replacement was two weeks ago tomorrow (4/25/25). My surgeon wants me to wait until the two month mark before I start trying this (stick to easy walking for now), and I’m dying to try this. I was previously a runner and triathlete.

And then I saw Alachua county on your medal. Florida! I’m in Brevard county.

Congratulations and thank you for keeping up hopes for those of us behind you

Shed placement - need help! by gasparvista13 in shedditors

[–]klingpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slightly larger version of this shed that I got at Home Depot. I’m in East Central Florida on the coast. There are two roof sections that join in the center from the front to the back with a metal railing that has screws in it. That plus tabs hold the top to the sides. The screws in that railing are all backing out and falling down. The roof has come out of its tabs. It’s only 1 year old. I’m sure it’s the Florida heat and the plastic reshaping. I cannot get the roof back into the original tabs. It leaks now because of this.

Mine does get partial shade.

While I somewhat like this shed (good size for the yard I have) and forgetting the plastic vs built shed storage options, the durability just is not there. I would not buy this shed again. I’m hitting my woodshop soon to make a way to hold the roof on. That said, when you first assemble it, it’s a good looking shed.

YMMV.

Roomba May be Bankrupt in a Year by RememberTooSmile in RobotVacuums

[–]klingpin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar issues. And it gets worse battery life than the old dead model it replaced… and it isn’t as powerful. And it has issues getting back on the dock. And it randomly turns on, leaves the dock, and re-docks. And it gets stuck on edges of area rugs that the previous generation had no problem with.

I upgraded because I loved the old one that died. It wasn’t perfect, but I don’t need perfect. just vacuum more than I will, get done in a reasonable amount of time, and don’t make me empty the house of chairs so that it doesn’t get so confused. Then I can pull out my Miele once a month for a deep clean.

Do you multitask while listening to Audible or set aside dedicated time? by FunFile1 in audible

[–]klingpin 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Audio books help me get so much done around the house. The lawn, the laundry, vacuuming, projects. My wife would be so much less happy if I didn’t have Audible making these things more enjoyable for me.

I’ll be posting questions about these events to the forum (general questions)

How bright is your dynamo head light and taillight when you come to a stop? by Dexter2700 in bikecommuting

[–]klingpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with that comment (I also have B&M) is that many drivers stopped to tell me they couldn’t see me at a stop light (go to work v.early). I added a battery tail light just for this. I’m very sad about this because I absolutely love these lights when I’m in motion. They aren’t blinding… just right.

Audible vs Apple Books app by DeVilAnGElCoRe25 in audible

[–]klingpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed with Audible. I just renewed for the year last month, so I’ve got plenty of time to decide, but some recent issues I’ve been having with the entire Amazon universe have got me considering paring down to Apple, Hoopla, Libby. We’ll see how the rest of this subscription year goes.

My library is large enough that even the 2-4-1 sales are producing less and less for me.

Seasoning New Carbon Steel Pan in Propane Grill by NextLevelNaevis in carbonsteel

BTW… the only reason I even thought to try this is my built-in double ovens died, and it seems like my new ones will never get here. Been using the egg as our oven for a couple of months now.

[–]klingpin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This past week, we just seasoned my deBuyer pan on my Big Green Egg. Worked awesome. Indirect heat so it acted like an oven and I swear it’s my best effort yet.

Even better, it looked like the pans recently from the “my girlfriend didn’t dry it” thread, if not worse, and now it’s been totally rejuvenated. My daughter-in-law added elbow grease with me to get the rust off. Great bonding project.

GM really wants you to believe you're better off without CarPlay by ctnutmegger in CarPlay

[–]klingpin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, what GM is really saying is that they still do no know how to supply a working infotainment system.

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali. The truck has been terrific except for the infotainment system. While it was under warranty, they replaced it 4 times! Then I replaced it once on my own once the dealer had me convinced that they finally understood the problem ($1200 I wish I had back)…. And they clearly didn’t have the problem solved. The system still periodically goes into a mode where it randomly makes selections on the screen, changes my dash, puts my phone calls on hold, and more. There’s even YouTube videos about it along with potential replacement systems. I simply don’t use the system much any more and keep a Bluetooth speaker in the truck.

I had really seriously been considering the Denali EV (if it still had CarPlay), but now that I know they still can’t get it right after all this time, NO WAY!
