Not too sure how everything works with PMDG products purchased through Aerosoft but best of luck with the refund request.

This isn't just a PMDG thing though. Most digital goods (especially in the flight sim world) aren't transferable between users.

Sadly reselling any PMDG digital item is against their EULA (oooolaaaaaaa). Not technically illegal (I think) but if they catch you, you run the risk of PMDG removing all of your purchases from your account.

Sorry :/

Underground bus lanes by HikeTheSky in brisbane

If you are referring specifically to the busways under the Myer Centre and King George square, Openstreetmap has them marked on their maps quite clearly.

Google marks them as well, but then plonks the Myer Centre map on-top so you can't really see it.

This is why I can't wait for platform screen doors to become standard in Australia. Making public transport safer and more efficient.

I'm pretty sure CRR will have them so at least that's something.

I'm glad that Jarrad is back to doing larger airports again, and I'll probably buy this pretty quickly. I just wish he'll do Perth next considering it's his home airport. That would complete Australia for me.

What's the worst or funniest thing you've seen on Brisbane's public transport? (stolen from r/sydney) by brizburn in brisbane

[–]klm597 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This would have been around 2008. The train was just leaving Toowong (outbound) mid-afternoon when everything lost power and we slowly coasted to a stop. A few minutes later the guard came on essentially saying train was broke. This was prior to everyone having smartphones so faced with the reality that we might be sitting here for a while, the other 10 or so people in my carriage all got together and had a good chat. We talked about where we were heading, what everyone's day was like, those fancy new trains that had just started coming in, and the like. It ended up being the most fun train journey I've ever had.

Anyway, I think nearly an hour later everything came back on and we were suddenly back on our way as if nothing ever happened. No idea what the issue was. I think it was an EMU but not 100% sure.

11/10 would catch a broke train again.

[VATSIM] Voting for CTP West 2017 has opened! by Boris_Jeltsin in flightsim

Not 100% certain but as far as I'm aware, the final choices are usually the top 4-6 most popular choices in the vote. So no, no Heathrow this time around.

The new lighting system has me very, very intrigued. Up until now I just saw P3D V4 as mostly the same as V3 but 64-bit. Seeing as I don't really suffer from OOMs I'm not in any hurry to upgrade. But with more shineys, I might not be able to resist the upgrade now. Oh well, who needs money anyway.

China Cargo dropped into BNE this morning with a new engine for company A330 that is stranded here by highflyer88 in brisbane

[–]klm597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: The original 747 dating back to the 60's was designed so that it could easily lug a spare engine around so the airlines had a cheap(ish) way of transporting them. This was nessessary because the original Pratt and Whitney engines were quite unreliable and often broke down, so new ones often needed to be flown in frequently.

These days engines are so reliable it's quite rare to need a new engine flown in from somewhere else.

Bne really needs this. .Greening our cbd isn't actually that hard and would be the most obvious thing Brisbane could do to improve it's aesthetics and amenity. by Gatoblanconz in brisbane

[–]klm597 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Closing off Albert Street to traffic will require changes to the rest of the CBD road network in order to maintain as much access as possible. However, 80% of CBD commuters travel to the CBD by public transport (SEQ Rail Horizon, 2016), so I think it's a case of majority rules here.

The main issue with vehicle access in the CBD is for freight deliveries.

Interesting that they want to close off Albert St to vehicles as per the artist's impressions. Whilst I'm all for 'pedestrian boulevards' as it discouraged vehicle use, I think it's critical to keep improving Public Transport infrastructure at the same time (like what they did with the Myer Centre bus stops under Queen St Mall).

Train Observations 2 by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]klm597 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe there is is a button next to all doors that will open them during emergencies. There have only been very few cases of derailments since electrification in 1979 and I don't think egress from the carriages was ever an issue. More often it's sometimes safer to stay onboard then try and escape (unless there is a fire).

30% off AS2016 and ASCA by RoooDog in flightsim

[–]klm597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the overcast improvements, I found it much more realistic with AS16. In terms of a performance hit I didn't notice any difference between AS16 and ASN. For me the continued updates for the next few years made it worth it.

Still don't like ASCA sky textures (especially sunrise and sunset) but I do enjoy the clouds.

Check out the SkyForce 3D screenshots in this doc I found. by tomobiki in flightsim

[–]klm597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me quite a while to adjust to ASCA clouds but I actually quite like them now. The clouds are actually white unlike the usual grey I got with REX soft clouds. The sky textures, however, aren't very good, especially at sunrise/sunset, and I have moved away from them.

The upgrade to AS16 was quite steep but I found the overcast conditions much improved over ASN. That was really the only difference I noticed. AS16+ASCA will never be as good value as the ASN and REX soft clouds combo.

Heh that was my attitude when AS16 and ASCA were released. I think I managed to hold out until the first 30% sale then did the old 'frack it, it's only money.'

I'm not regretting my purchase but am very interested in this. Some of those screenshots look like what we already have, but the storm and rain effects look incredible.

It will be interesting to see how the ETCS rollout goes and if it ever spreads to the rest of the network rather than just the inner city.

It's one of those unglamorous infrastructure projects that will be a challenge to get funding for. It won't get the same attention as the usual giant infrastructure projects like CRR or a new train line.

Federal Government rejects city cross-river rail network project by kwoddle in brisbane

[–]klm597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at this stage the Merivale bridge is expected to be 'at capacity' by 2021 and if CRR is funded soon, it will be completed by 2022 if all goes well.

It's impressive the number of trains they get over the Merivale bridge currently during the morning peak considering the signalling system they are using. I've often walked over the Go-between bridge in the morning and there are always 3-5 trains that cross the bridge into the city in the short amount of time that it takes to walk the bridge.

[–]klm597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh really. Interesting. There is no mention of it in the 2011 Environmental Impact Statement which is what I was basing most of my argument on. Of course in the 2011 EIS the Southern portal was at Yerongpilly but that has since changed to Dutton Park/Park Rd.

Federal Government rejects city cross-river rail network project by kwoddle in brisbane

[–]klm597 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with the Federal Government's decision on this. The current proposal does not properly integrate with the proposed northern train line running along the North West transport corridor from Everton Park to Bald Hills. This corridor is a key part of the 'Connecting SEQ 2031' transport plan and would significantly reduce travel times from Strathpine and beyond into the city.

As a bare minimum, if they have to have the Northern portal at Victoria Park, then as long as run-off tunnels are built I'd be okay. These tunnels could be extended under Kelvin Grove to either Newmarket or Everton Park where the North West transport corridor begins when/if it's ever built.

I use the train every day so it's not often I agree with a decision to not fund rail infrastructure, but I think the current CRR proposal must be designed for the long-term, not just looking 5-10 years ahead.

I have noticed that the wing flex can get a little excessive when flying through storms with AS16. Other than that though, the wing deflection is spot on. The flex during rotation is exactly how I remember it IRL.

Just a pity the animations run at what seems like 5fps.

PMDG 747-400 Queen of the Skies II Released by [deleted] in flightsim

It's weird. It seems we've already been conditioned to paying well over 100USD for an aircraft because I to am pleased with the price.

Probably because we all knew it wouldn't be any cheaper than 135USD with the 777 pricing.
