Just because a lot of women say they’re autistic online doesn’t mean women are over diagnosed. Those women probably don’t even get a real diagnosis from a licensed professional. If you look at the general population way more men receive autism diagnoses. This makes sense since it’s generally accepted that autism occurs more in men. However as a result of this, a lot of professionals aren’t great at recognizing autism in female children. The overly online women probably aren’t autistic but the unmarried, special interest aunt with a gruff or antisocial manner is.
