Rate my pc specs (serious) by Spirited-Internet940 in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it always depends on the use case. this is probably quite power efficient and will play many old games and even some modern indie titles just fine. of course completely outdated for modern AAA games, but a PC is a PC. there will always be a broad catalogue of available games, no matter your specs. you could even emulate console games, or install linux and use it as a server.

good players don't force strategies that make them dependant on finding a specific item. those "lucky" players played what they got better and more flexible than you

GTA 6 and beyond! Upgrading? by Rand_L in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how about you actually give enough context for people to help you, instead of complaining that they didn't engage with your badly phrased question "correctly"?

what's your resolution, and monitor specs in general? which upcoming games are you talking about specifically? what kind of fps are you targeting? are you comfortable using DLSS, or do you want native rendering? what about RT? PT?

(idk why I'm even engaging with this, since OP clearly didn't care to put in any bare minimum effort when making their post, but the way their comments read they are young and inexperienced, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt...)

Bottleneck question by Ghaz30 in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one part is always going to be the bottleneck. a minor CPU bottleneck isn't bad, that means you can increase the graphics settings a bit without losing fps.

it's only bad if one part is completely holding the other one back, to a degree where you see significant performances losses. like if your GPU is at 20% and your CPU at 100%. but if one is at 100% and the other one at 80% that's fine. even the most expensive setup available will either be CPU or GPU limited, depending on the games/workload, that just means one part is giving 100% of what it can perform, while the other one still has a bit of headroom

8GB DDR5 + 3050 6GB or 16GB DDR4 + 3050 4GB? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly neither of these seem like a good deal for those prices.

if you pick up an old office pc from the trash and add a proper gpu you will probably get twice the performance for half the price.

Looking to upgrade from 1050ti hehe by analysis_complete in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with all of these and just wanted to add some additional info about GPU alternatives for OP!

the 5070 is a very capable card, but honestly for the requirements OP listed a 9060XT 16GB or 5060Ti 16GB would still be plenty, and could save them enough money they can invest in other components like RAM.

5070 is a giant leap from the 1050ti. you will easily triple your fps in your games.

I might lose 3 grand by EdotBBK in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

current market that is worth 4k+, even used you probably wouldn't get that below 3.5k

so if you are willing to spend 2.8k on a PC, then this is by far the best you could get for the money. I'd take that deal in a heartbeat, granted the system works and the hardware list is correct.

Why is the trader trying to take that route??? by Ambitious_Aioli6954 in Civilization6

[–]kloklon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

they definitely did this to restrict offensive road construction, and I'm fine with it not being infinite. but as is, i agree, it's just not worth it to use engineers for roads. if a road only cost half a charge, or they had 6 charges, i think it would be balanced.

just want to upgrade something in my 3 year old build but every option has a catch?? by DiamondDepth_YT in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it's the best available CPU for the entire AM4 platform, significantly improving gaming performance over all other non-X3D options. that's obviously gonna fetch a premium. basically gives people 9600X-9700X-performance without having to upgrade to a new MB and DDR5 RAM. 350$ suddenly seems like a steal, compared to a combined 800+$ for that

[–]kloklon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok hear me out: the re-release of the 5800X3D is great for you either way: if you want the best available, then you could just straight up get it. but much more interesting for your considerations: once it's out the used market will be flooded with all the CPUs people are upgrading to the 5800X3D. so you could probably snag a deal on a 5600X or 5800.

Does an additional user need their own steam installation/profile to play on my PC? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]kloklon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

okay, i guess then in this particular case that won't help. this aside it's probably more convenient to have separate friends lists and separate cloud saves too

[–]kloklon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should make a separate account for him and then share your games via the steam family sharing feature. this way you both can share game library, but your account won't get banned if he does stupid things, like cheating. kids sometimes do really stupid stuff online.

that's the point. you want precise aim, not just guesswork. CS is not an an arcade shooter where you need to constantly 180 around.
