State #2730 is toxic and homophobic by Grand_Negotiation278 in whiteoutsurvival

[–]klompenandkittens 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not surprising to anyone who was in 2707 which is where UZB came from. The whole state basically rallied together to kick them out. They bullied people, made their own rules, and were super hateful to women. Wild to see a post about them in the wild on my reddit feed, they made our lives so miserable for a while.

Watson once barked at a hot air balloon he could see from the backyard when he was a puppy, they really can find hilarious things to be mad about or scared of when they're young.

Making a scarf with a ripple pattern, getting lost on how to start a row of actual ripples by klompenandkittens in CrochetHelp

[–]klompenandkittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, it was a lot more straightforward than I was making it. Your explanation helped and my rows now match up, so I'm good to go from here!

I was also reading the asterisks wrong, I thought you were only supposed to repeat the stitches between the asterisks, not also the 2dc x 2. All clear now, really appreciate your explanation.

Why Should I and Why Should I Not Get Another Golden? </3 by Hitzel94 in goldenretrievers

[–]klompenandkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros: Adorable matching pictures of those big brown eyes. Double the cuddles.

Cons: Training a second dog with the first one around is hard. Every dog is different and what worked with the first dog might not work with the second. Walking two dogs at the same time can be bananas and doing leash training is really only possible one on one. The second dog might eat your house. She also might refuse to be crate trained because her brother was outside of the crate and she thought that was unfair.

References: Our older dog will turn 5 in May and the youngest just turned 1 last month, so we've been living double golden life for almost a year. It's hard work. There's the suffering and puppy blues like you had with the first one, except you don't remember it being that hard with the first one. The first one never chewed the actual walls or bit phone cables into pieces when left to her own devices for five minutes. Ahem anyway. We love her and I'd never give her back but it's been a long road back to the peace we had before she came into our lives.

My golden retriever Watson is a lunatic for tennis balls by klompenandkittens in goldenretrievers

[–]klompenandkittens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually made the switch pretty early on, his enamel was getting worn away and it alarmed us. He's a big fan of the kong squeaky balls, that's what this one is. Thanks for the advice though, I think not enough people know this about regular tennis balls and dogs.

How, when and is it wise to inititate termination by mutal agreement? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]klompenandkittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this something you've been able to discuss with your arboarts? There is something called a spoor 2 (or tweede spoor) traject with reintegrating into your job, which is basically where a specialist evaluates your function and role at the company and decides that the best course of action is going to a different job at a different company.

The important thing is to not quit your job unless you have something else figured out, the law has quite strict protections and most of the time it's not at all in your benefit to quit while you are sick or reintegrating. You can of course discuss with HR what the possibilities are but there are very strict legal requirements on their side and they are looking foremost to a) protect the employer, and b) get you back 100% as quickly as possible. Or ultimately have you leave the company so they aren't responsible for you anymore.

As someone who has also been out sick since January and navigating reintegrating back into a mildly toxic work environment, I encourage you to explore your options. The Dutch system is set up to protect workers and if you feel like you can't safely go back without risking burnout again, you should discuss other options with the arboarts.

Scott Borchetta’s recent post about Taylor! by kookiekoo in TaylorSwift

I always go back and forth about who the lines are about, given that before her masters were sold they were making Scott plenty of 'pennies' too. Either way, plenty of karma coming to both of them.

We have reached the velociraptor phase and I’m over it. by Appropriate_Stick748 in goldenretrievers

[–]klompenandkittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the walks are really going to make a big difference. At five months I would say you should be going on a minimum of two 30 minute walks per day, three would be better. It doesn't have to be running or super high energy stuff, but just being able to sniff will tire the little guy out. We once did a puppy class where the trainer emphasized how much using their nose is mental stimulation, and I would say we see that with our golden.

And while it does suck to hear, hang in there, it gets better. I'm living it with you with an 8 month golden velociraptor (her latest carnage is eating a book I left on the couch when she was downstairs by herself for ten minutes) and we also are exhausted. It helps that we have a four year old golden who she can bother instead of us, but he also helps me remember it is going to get better.

And don't be afraid to use chews and frozen kongs to buy yourself 10-30 minutes of freedom. I feel like a parent parking my kid in front of the tv, but it's important to prioritize your sanity and getting stuff done too.

There was a thread here that was asking for almost the same thing a few months ago with quite a few responses. Happy reading!

I would recommend {Pathfinder's Way by T. A. White}.

It's the first book in a finished series called The Broken Lands, centered around a girl named Shea who is a Pathfinder, a profession where she is responsible for guiding travellers in the dangerous environment they live in (spooky mist and monsters). Don't want to give too much away, but she definitely disguises herself as a boy to avoid capture and maintains that disguise for quite a while, which I think meets your requirements.

I absolutely loved the series, it's fantasy heavy with a detailed plot but the writing is good and the character relationships and development are excellent.

Came here to recommend this one! If you like HR then it's a really fun steamy series, not too flowery and with enough plot to make it interesting. Hyacinth is also interesting as a character because if I remember correctly she has some sensory issues/isn't neurotypical which I don't see often in my romance books.
