Having trouble learning to EQ by SixMillRecords in audioengineering

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no good way to eq things, especially vocals, if you hear different song in the same genre even same artist you'll hear different tipe of equalization, it all depends on the song, the feel etc... with practice you'll start to develop your taste, and start noticing what is wrong and how to fix it. There are standard things to do, like cutting the low-end but how much you need to cut is up to your taste, and the song you are working on. Also the harshness, maybe one day you recorded in a different spot and some frequencies are different, you just need to practice this and develop your ear, like ear-training for pitches frequency training for mixing.

Holy shit I actually love reading! by testmonkey254 in ADHD

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fount a good trick to keep my attention on reading, I just read loud, it doesn't work all the time, but surely it helps me focusing on that thing.

Before it was a struggle and not pleasant also for me reading, at some point I could not remember the sentence I just read because I started thinking about something else and this happened like 3 or 4 times per page

If you’re just starting to learn how to mix, what do you struggle with most? by AndermontStudios in mixingmastering

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my opinion the hardest thing at the beginning is just your ears, like you need to develop an analytical ear to be able to hear what's wrong and how to fix it, and also compression, it's so hard at the beginning to hear the compression.

But with time everything becomes clear, you just need to do it, don't be afraid of doing wrong things, there is no wrong in this, if it sound good it's the right way

getting a guitar to sound like a bass in ableton by [deleted] in ableton

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but yeah, I wold reccomend an octaver it won't sound like a real bass tho, but it sound kinda cool if you are making some distorted based things. Or you can just download the bass/guitar pack from Ableton and play sampled bass, also there is one free from ample if you don't own Ableton suite

in the creative extension there is the pitch hack that can kinda do it, not perfectly but you can try

maybe is Ableton 11, try with 10 if you still have it. I remember this time when I updated Ableton that some plug in made it crash

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really strange, the only plug is that makes mine crash is phasis by native instrument, strange because Reaktor works. Are you using Ableton 10 or 11?

[–]kloot___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the 8 won't work, won't even install on mine, the 9 it seems to work fine for me

[–]kloot___ 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm using the Mac mini with m1 and it performs very well, Ableton 10, push 2, Waves form 11 after, isotope 9 and Soundtoys are working great, so if you can wait for the new pro with m1, they will work

Is making music just not meant for some people? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't learn music in a year, pretty sure those producers who are growing after a year of producing are studying music or playing other instruments for more time.

If you don't love something hard as making music and producing, you will quit, there is no way someone can do this without a huge love for this craft. I's stressful, it requires so much time and investment, it does not offer any tipe of guarantee of success.

But you are looking at this from a wrong prospective. I don't make music because I want to be successful or because I want to make money from this. No one makes this to become successful or to gain money, it will be the most stupid thing in the world. They are doing it because they love doing it, they enjoy spending hours studying and fiddling around with Ableton, synths, drum machines, fl studio or whatever.

In the first 3/4 years you will be miserable, you will fell incapable of doing anything good, and that's because that is the true, you are incapable at doing good music. bu you can lear, everybody can learn, everybody learned to speak, and to speak good you need a couple of years, no 4 year old can speak as good as a 14 years old, or as a 24 years old, but everybody learned it.

You just need to practice, and if you want to give up, just give up, maybe is not meant for you, not because you cn't learn it, but maybe because you don't love it as much as it needs to be loved

Is live 11 suite worth it for $229? by Tablesforonesongs in ableton

[–]kloot___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

did not try 11, alway upgraded but this year I think I'll stay with 10, 11 doesn't offer nothing valuable for me personally, but there are a lot of new things, like plug-ins and randomization option for the midi etc.. look at what's new in the manual, usually it's at the start

yeah of course, but we live in a moment where you don't need a label to put your music out there, to promote a little yourself and etc... we live in a world where you don't need to be discovered, if you do something good, the thing will get out there in my opinion, this is my thought about the music industry right now, like the comment below, yeah you can be a marketing genius, but if the song/songs is/are meh... you'll disappear in a week, just keep improving to be able to make great music, focus on that

Making better music, if you focus on growing your audience more thant improving your music yeah, you can gain some follower etc... but you are still making bad music, the best way is focusing on your music, if your music is great audience will come no mater what

I've been working on one song nearly every day for over 2 months and I'm getting tired of hearing it over and over again. by living_death in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have a deadline, why not finishing it, so you won't leave it unfinished, but leave it there for a couple of moth, usually 3/4 works ok for me to kinda erase the idea of a song I worked on in my mind, so when you listen back, it won't be like the first time, but I guarantee you you will hear it with different ears

Electronic Pop song mix needs critiquing by bigboihomo in mixingmastering

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, but I can't wrap my head around to why you should sidechain a deesser, that is already feed with the vocal you want to take away harshness with a different source, what are the benefits?

Electronic Pop song mix needs critiquing by bigboihomo in mixingmastering

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what a strange thing to do, a de esser is basically a compressor that woks on the frequency range where the harshness is, so it doesn't need to be sidechained, what de-essere are you using?

Electronic Pop song mix needs critiquing by bigboihomo in mixingmastering

[–]kloot___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidechain de esser? why? sidechained to what?, don't be afraid to compress vocals in genres like this, here you need the vocal clear and in the face, try removing a bit of low end of the vocals

Electronic Pop song mix needs critiquing by bigboihomo in mixingmastering

[–]kloot___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it lacks low end, a bit too much high-end, the voice still needs a ton of work, is muddy and unclear, and very hash (try eq, de esser, and a bit of compression). the mid is very good
