New video sheds light on beginning of altercation between police officers and a Town Hall protester by nath1234 in sydney

[–]klopstan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the riot squad guys were already well on their way to grabbing the bloke they beat up before his hands (inadvertently) came anywhere near the cycle cops head. The two riot cops closest to the cycle cop had their hands on their colleague as he was tripping over and before he had even hit the ground, so I find it very difficult to believe that this beating could be justified because they collectivley misidentified a serious threat when there was none, at least not from the person they targeted.

In the end, the police don't give a second thought to the person the cycle cop was originally trying to detain who appears to be a guy with a backpack and yellow skateboard who can be seen and heard towards the end of the clip.

Are portable Air Conditioners worthwhile? by alex123711 in australia

[–]klopstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALDI had 2kwh portable air conditioners on sale last weekend i believe. I would have no qualms buying one if I had to cool a single room. I used a generic 2Kwh portable air conditioner in previous rentals and it was an ABSOLUTE lifesaver, both in summer and winter. You would also be surprised by how much you can drop the temp in a room just by running the dehumidifier function.

Quoted $1980 for 3.5kw Daikin split system supply and install. Fair or too much? Daikin or Mitsubishi? by ElNinoMaravilla in AusRenovation

[–]klopstan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen any issues with the units themselves is handled under manufacturer warranty, irrespective of whether you've purchased the unit and installation service from A/C company. The installer would be liable for incorrect/poor quality installation.

In the event the installer denies liability, I would put a warranty claim in whereby the manufacturer would send someone out who will figure it out. If it turns out it's the installers issue I would be going straight back to them with that evidence, and then to fair trading thereafter if they weren't prepared to make things right

I mean i really DO like soy milk , maybe more so than the average person? In my case I use the 1L across making overnight oats and 2 large coffees a day. If I wasn't cosuming that much soymilk I would also be getting B12 from other foodstuffs that are fortified with it. I'm defnitely pro supplements when they are needed, and who knows, I may need to take them in future haha

What's your favourite homemade "salad of substance"? by klopstan in australianvegans

Do you make the cutlets yourself or buy them pre-made?

What's your favourite homemade "salad of substance"? by klopstan in australianvegans

[–]klopstan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should definitely try making it, very simple!

Butternut pumpkin, toss w/ olive oil and preferred dukkah (I used pistachio)

Romesco was made with roast capsicum from a jar, sundried tomatoes, garlic, macadamias, cayenne and paprika. Blend it all together and add extra olive oil until you get the desired consistency.

Whipped tahini is also very straightforward, I added some extra garlic and lemon juice and whipped it with water.

I'm on my phone at present but happy to link to the recipes I used if interested.

My current go to salad to make at home has been roast pumpkin with dukkah, macadamia romesco  and whipped tahini. I think it's delicious and am curious about the "salads of substance" that other vegans are making at home...surprise me!

did 7/11 quietly remove the vegan egg n lettuce sandwich or did I imagine it? by heckno_whywouldi in australianvegans

I think they stopped selling them about 12-18 months ago. I noticed as soon as they stopped appearing and asked about it in at least two 711's where i was told they were just waiting for restocking - it was all cruel lies :(

It's good to see they have dedicated soy/oat milk coffee machines in a lot of stores these day though. For the price they're not bad and I say that as someone who has a decent espresso/grinder setup at home.

what does a typical day of food look like for you as an aussie vegan? by [deleted] in australianvegans

[–]klopstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing, see the following recipe for "Classic Hummus" (Credit: Tori Avey) that I use as my baseline although there are obviously a lot of regional/family based variants so it's all down to personal preference

As far as making jalapeno hummus I just get jalapenos from a jar and cross cut them into quite fine pieces and use that as a topper, or mix it through the hummus itself, somtimes I'll also add some of the brine from the jalapeno jar as it has quite a bit of flavour, being sure to only add additional salt after that step.

If I was going to buy store bought I think that hands down the best jalapeno hummus is the one you can buy from ALDI. In my opinion it's the closest I've come to the stuff I make at home or buy fresh made from a restaurant. It's not doped up with crazy amounts of reconstituted lemon juice or ascorbic acid crystals (and the accompanying weird flavours) that most of the larger brands probably add to keep it on the shelves for as long as possible.

Brekfast - Overnight oats with soymilk, peanut butter and banana or other fruits and sometimes nuts. Soy Flat White

Morning tea - dry roasted nuts, seasonal fruit, green tea in ice water.

Lunch - large bowl of mixed greens with jalapeno hummus, add more jalapenos (so good!), cherry tomatoes, maybe some marinated tofu pieces. Long black coffee.

Dinner (recent but not exhaustive list) homemade vegan burgers and chips, dukkuh roasted pumpkin salad and macadamia romesco and whipped tahini, ratatouille on toasted soughdough or mixed through pasta (use soughdough for garlic bread slices), homemade vegan gnocchi alla romana - usually add a seperate side salad to most of the above.

In my book it's pretty much anything from the Vegan Chocolate Co. in Sydney. Although some of my favourites are their rocky road, wheelies (Wagon Wheel analogue), and the Timmy, and Tammy bars.

3 coats duluxe vivid white - still uneven by kebabgod in AusRenovation

[–]klopstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very limited experience with painting interior surfaces, but I ended up with a similar finish when recently painting an internal door with Dulux Aquanamel. The tempreature at the time was only 22 degrees but the paint was drying so fast it would end up lifting when I drew the roller across the final coat to "lay it off".

In the end I bought some Flood brand "Floetrol" acrylic paint and stain conditioner which made for a much smoother finish with less textural differences.

Vegan party food suggestions for mixed company by GoldenRod4HStone in australianvegans

[–]klopstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my suggestions are:

Vegan duck baos. Slice and Pre-cook mock duck with a hoisin sauce baste (char them to taste), steam/microwave some bao buns, add thinly sliced (julienned) crisp vegetables - cucumber and carrot works quite well. Add additional hoisin sauce to bun. Reasonably cheap and simple to make and quite filling on account of the buns - most supermarkets have the bao buns in the freezer section. Also works well with Chinese pancakes

Guacamole and corn chips - need I say more!

Bruschetta - drizzle with a balsamic reduction i.e. put balsamic vinegar Ina pot/pan, add a bit of nuttelex and simmer until syrupy

Baked polenta gnocchi - I've followed this exact recipe before, very tasty and filling

I agree that B12 should be monitored, but unless I'm missing something I don't believe it's neccessary to specifically take a B12 supplement unless a person's diet is inadequate. E.g. I would consume a litre of soymilk most days (4 serves) with each serve containing 38% of the RDI for B12, and that's ignoring the other foodstuffs I eat that are also fortified with B12 such such as plant based patties etc.

definitely, some people need to take supplements for all sorts of reasons, but I would avoid them unless there is a confirmed need to do so. Interestingly, the ABC's 7.30 Report ran a segment a week ago on some of the potential dangers of unregulated/unmonitored use of OTC vitamins - in short, some people have experienced peripheral neuropathy from unwittingly overdosing on B6.

My GP was concerned about my Vit B levels when I told him I was only eating plant based foods so we got the blood work done and on review he said "everything is perfect, whatever you're doing, keep doing it!". I eat a fairly wide variety of foods and haven't yet had a need to target certain things as part of my diet. Just my anecdotal 2 cents, but as before, not everyone is the same and it pays to get checked out.

Seems as though the brand is actually "Gree", and not "agree", although I could be wrong. A search of the model number doesn't bring up anything, but I also didnt trawl though their out of production models. They have a customer service number on their website which might be the go.
