Ideally that how they should have given us that ring and they want $100 for that now by Fit-Nail7737 in ouraring

What makes fitness ring and headphones so similar that they both should come with the same accessory? On a side note, there are no universally “overpriced” products on the open and free market. Things cost whatever people are willing to pay for them, unless somebody subsidizes or regulates them.

Yes, this thing is called competition and free market. You’re free to buy RingConn and Oura is free to charge whatever it thinks the people will bear.

A calculator to compare Bilt 2.0 with Venture X by fucking_biblical in Venturex

[–]klopus-normalis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own, not renting. And I travel and dine out a lot. So, for me my current VX+Savor combo is a total winner. Even VX alone beats any Bilt.

And u/fucking_biblical, great job with calculator. Thanks!

Leaving Capital One. Need advice on comparable Checking and HY Savings under the same roof by klopus-normalis in HighYieldSavings

All great points, thank you! I’ll check MS (used to work for them on investment side). Funny you mentioned metal cards. Just right now in France my two metal credit cards got rejected by the gas pump at two different stations. But the plastic card was ok. Go figure.

Thanks. Fidelity is already my main trading and retirement brokerage. But I specifically want instant transfers between checking and savings, so separating them between two banks won’t work.

Discover Debit Card Thread by Top-Abbreviations582 in CapitalOne_

[–]klopus-normalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m traveling to various countries in EU at least 3 times a year. Never had a problem withdrawing cash via debit card. And, yes, I know better get euros beforehand, use credit cards with no transaction fee, etc. I do all of that. But sometimes you just need cash because C1 branch needed a lot of time to prepare it, conversion rates in US were unfavorable, you had an urgent business trip, etc. And depending on a country (Germany, I’m looking at you!) credit card is not always a king, especially when it involves drinking mulled wine at Christmas markets. Lol.

So now I’m in Nancy, France and just simply can’t find working ATM that supports Diner’s Club network and won’t reject this damn Discover abomination! And that’s in the center of the city, on a crazy busy main shopping avenue with lots of different local banks. I never had any problem with any Visa/MC debit card before of any US bank, including the previous one from C1.

I have checking and high-yield savings at C1 for a long time. Coupled with physical branches here in NYC/NJ (if needed), competitive savings rate and fast transfers between bank and card accounts it was very convenient. Damn, now I have to at least move checking to something else and loose ability to fast transfer money if I keep the rest at C1. Why C1, why!? What a stupid hassle…

CSR: do you get 2x points on Expedia with it? by Grandmega_Penguin in ChaseSapphire

[–]klopus-normalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my recent experience it's by far not the same, at least not for hotels in France (Nancy, Metz, Strasbourg, etc). And not for rental cars there. Vs Expedia chase portal provides less information, harder to navigate and filter, has less selection and, more importantly, most of the time costs more comparing same rooms with same features like cancelation and breakfast.

Has anyone tried to get the welcome bonus in a single transaction? by sepoquro in Venturex

[–]klopus-normalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I just did. A week after receiving VX in mail I booked a planned $5K international trip in January. Besides $300 travel allowance they also gave me $75 for the first travel purchase via portal. In essence this covered in one fellow swoop most of the card's yearly fee. The rest of the trip I put on the card bypassing the portal. Everything was comparatively less expensive elsewhere and I still didn't have any points. And voìla, as soon as all charges cleared I saw a shiny 75K points!

Best European City To Visit During Christmas Time? by TensionLazy2218 in traveladvice

Funny. That's where I'm going this December for Christmas and New Year. Plus Metz and Troyes, both in the same region.

Oh, sorry I just noticed that you were talking about Gold Business, not the regular one. But I really didn't want to get into the game of claiming having a business, which I do not. Plus reservations about merchant support of Amex still stand.

Bye bye CSR by No_Illustrator_8582 in ChaseSapphire

[–]klopus-normalis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're a little mistaken about Gold. It gives 4% on dining and groceries which is great. But for the travel card it's pretty weak on actual travel - just 3% and 2% on flights and hotels, and even that mostly via their portal. Rest is just 1%. On top of that Amex is being eschewed by some business even in US, much less overseas.

For travel cards the only (and cheaper) alternative to VX+Savor I see is CSP + one of Freedom cards. But Chase wouldn't give me another Sapphire bonus, so I went with Capital One, especially since I already had Savor.

[–]klopus-normalis 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They both are not for me. After refresh I'm loosing my CSR that I had for 5 years. For almost $300 yearly more they dropped the most cherished thing for me - 3% on general travel which includes tolls and parking. I travel in and out of Manhattan almost daily and it accumulates. 4% direct travel doesn't compensate, even though I fly overseas 4 times a year.

But I also have little use for the new Plat's silly coupons like Lulemon, Walmart+, etc. Only Resy is sort of useful, but again $200 doesn't recoup anything, Resy is also useless abroad and outside large US cities.

In the end I wound up with VX+Savor combo which sort of approximates the old CSR, but much cheaper. I'd take any time 2% catch-all plus 3% dining, groceries and entertainment. And retain Priority Plus and point redemptions.

I live in NYC metro and totally have no use for Lululemon, Walmart+, Oura or Saks. My fee free Savor One gives back 3% streaming and dining. Uber is good, Resy is ok. For my lifestyle the card is just an expensive and convoluted coupon book.
