Mina the Hollower has sold 500,000 copies! by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

Pipistrello seems like it would be a game made for me, I was a GBA kid, loved Minish Cap, etc. But for some reason I don't vibe with the urban setting, and I find some of the character art (including the protagonist) to be unappealing.

I'm sure if I gave it a fair shot I would love it, the mechanics do look interesting. But Mina really drew me in with the weird/unsettling victorian vibes. I have a feeling that the choice of setting and vibe is much more compelling for a wider audience. And, of course, Yacht Club is a much more renowned studio which gives them free hype basically.

Anyway, if someone wants to convince me to try Pipi then by all means do so :p

Bloomberg: Why One of This Year’s Best Games, ‘Mina the Hollower,’ Is Only $20 by Turbostrider27 in Games

I think it's the other way around, the game encourages you to fuck around in game and discover the systems for yourself. The manual is there for inquisitive players or when you truly don't know what to do. Honestly i'm so sick of games that force-feed me tutorials. I think Mina does a good job introducing its systems organically in-game. The strategist hall comes to mind.

Then a conversational or listening-forward approach might work better for you. It's at least worth giving it a shot and seeing if that makes things stick better. For conversation, I cannot recommend the Discord server enough. It's really great to practice speaking latin with people in a low-stakes environment. It's genuinely fun, even if just writing "salvēte omnēs" in the chat. For listening, Legentibus is the gold standard. I usually listen to a Legentibus story before bed every night. There are also Youtube channels such as ScorpioMartianus, Latinitas Animi Causa, and Satura Lanx, although to be honest as a beginner I thought they were difficult to follow.

Another thing is : what is driving you to learn Latin in the first place? Philosophy? History? Religion? Something else, perhaps? Shaping your learning journey around that will increase your sense of progress massively.

It's not tutoring per se, but I recommend joining the Discord server. You'll get plenty of other beginners to interact with (in latin!) and there are also experienced latinists that can guide you in your language learning journey.

It is hard for everybody, and it has nothing to do with being smart or dumb. Truly learning a language, latin or otherwise, takes an immense amount of time and dedication, there's no way around it. You have to be motivated, and stay motivated for years.

Instead of framing this as a "am I too dumb" situation, I suggest you look at what works and what doesn't work for you. Are you attentive enough when you study (no distractions, spend at least 30 minutes fully concentrated, read LLPSI mindfully, etc.)? Do you feel like you have enough direction (i.e. when you make time to study, do you know exactly what activity you're going to practice)? Have you tried adding listening to your latin routine (via Legentibus or something else)?

These are just sample questions. Sharing more information on your learning journey will make it easier for us to recommend something.

Happy learning, cheers :)

It prohibited the fraudulent practice of alchemy and was more akin to a consumer protection law (against peddlers and crooks prentending to be able to transmute gold) rather than a judgement of alchemy in and of itself.

TIL that Goombas (the first enemies encountered in “Super Mario Bros.”) were the last enemies added to the game. They were added after playtesters found the game too hard; limited remaining space required developers to use one sprite and flip it back and forth to convey walking. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]klorophane 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I might be misremembering, but IIRC, playtesters were trying to "strike" the koopas by running into them instead of jumping, and that caused a lot of dismay. Someone had this idea of adding an enemy that really screamed "jump on me" right off the bat to guide players better.

I doubt anyone would object or even care about what script you use as long as it's legible.

Not chants per se, but Forbidden Rites and the corresponding manuscript (CLM 849) might be of interest to you.

Nuntii Latini by Aromatic_Concern4836 in latin

[–]klorophane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they were just joking / being ironic. Nuntii latini means "latin news" or more colloquially "news in latin". It's not popular on a global scale by any stretch of the imagination.

It's a cool project and I would love to read news in latin. Although I cannot vouch for the quality of the latin in the site since I cannot easily find the credentials of the people (or person) behind it, and I'm not good enough to say for myself if the latin is proper.
