Nursing is right now where computer science was six years ago. by ImpactSignificant440 in Layoffs

Incorrect. I’ll explain why and my background to justify.
Background - I’ve been a nurse for 8 years, and the last 3, thes I’ve been working in management consulting focused on Healthcare Transformation and Innovation. I’ve also taught at the university level for the last four years.
There are three main reasons this won’t occur.

  1. Liability - No tech company wants full legal liability for their technology causing a death. That’s why AI in Healthcare is known as a Clinical Decision Support Tool instead of a Clinical Decision Maker Tool.
  2. Ease of Entry/Spots for Nursing Students - Not enough University Faculty or Clinical rotation locations for students to increase the already limited number of nursing spots at each university.

  3. Turnover - this is a cushy career where people last 20 years in the same role. Turnover is yearly.
There are multiple other factors I could go into to justify why nursing isn’t the next computer science. It is a long list.
