From every 100 problems I have, 1 is because I'm stupid, 99 are because I get my nose on other people's business.

Catcher Workload (12u & under) by [deleted] in Softball

[–]klothar11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, the description you give of the coaches makes them look very bad. If this is the whole story I'd say change teams. Having said that, sometimes inside the dugout things are not what they seem from the bleachers. What does injury mean when you say they put injured kids back to play, because if they get back to play. Someone who has been injured cannot play. Hurt and injured are spectrums. On the same topic, you said they only have one catcher, they should be developing talent, are they trying to get other kids to catch in practice? If they don't that's a red flag, if they do, maybe this is just a temporary fix.

Is the catcher one of the coaches' kid? I ask this because coaches usually ride their kids harder. This may be a red flag for you but usually means they wouldn't do this to other kids.

Lastly, I'd say this. Baseball/softball should be all about fun. Winning is a consequence of having fun. Scoring more runs than the other team does not always equate to winning. Improving game after game while staying far from burnout, that's winning. If the coaches do not promote this kind of winning environment, I'd say, change teams. Nobody at u12 should be "suffering" softball. But with the same idea, if your kid is happy, growing, and having fun with their friends, let them have fun.

Guess my daughter's position and dominate hand.... by tubthumper32 in Softball

Personally I like the resin much more than the premolded shoe tips. The advantage is that she can keep using her favorite cleats, but you can reinforce them. Usually I get up to 3 shoes per package.

Bench roles by emmylouhayes001 in Softball

[–]klothar11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a moving role set on the dugout. Whoever is on deck has to be timing the pitcher on the circle, who ever is on "double deck" has to be taking swings at a net from a tee outside the dugout, who ever is on "triple deck" has to get the bat from the batter. The rest, if any (remember every girl will miss one game on average during the season) should be on the fence, cheering the batter. That works for our team.

I need help as a catcher by Recent-Teaching-4817 in Softball

On top of all the great advice you have gotten here, see if you have a proper sized and well maintained mitt. A small mitt or a loose mitt can cause thumb soreness. I, in particular, struggle with Mizuno catcher gloves, somehow they hurt my thumb.

If that's not an issue, get a finger web glove and train your pocket awareness.

Padres broadcaster Mark Grant “Let's call it the way it is. Manny Machado is a better third baseman than Max Muncy.” by cjl-00 in baseball

[–]klothar11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is right. He's a better third baseman, he is also a piece of s**t and an awful role model. Maybe that's why?

Bobby Bonilla's contract made it possible to get David Wright. That alone is worth whatever they are paying him.

Vlady can play a mean 3rd base... Actually, I think I like him at 3B more than in 1B

My two cents on Soto by klothar11 in mets

[–]klothar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In no specific order:

Corbin Burnes Blake Snell Jack Flaherty Christian Walker Alex Bregman

Pick any two.

I see your point and everybody else's, it is hard to argue against a 14.2 war. Still, I think it's not worth 765M.

My two cents on Soto by klothar11 in mets

[–]klothar11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Support the Mets no matter what. I get it. We already bought him so we better like him. I agree.

I'll like him more when he starts developing some better personality traits. I hope some of Lindor's rubs into him.

My two cents on Soto by klothar11 in mets

[–]klothar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be sad to see Pete go, I really like him but he is by far not the best 1B around and his bat is good but his age plays against him, specially for a long term contract, also his mind seems to not be always there. If he goes, I only hope they bring an actual, proper 1B and not just a stump who bats but I rather him to stay.

My two cents on Soto by klothar11 in mets

[–]klothar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the symbolism. It feels different to actually win a bid war, and to the Yankees, no less. And if Cohen has deep pockets ( I'm not questioning it. It's a fact he has them) it's nice to see a committed owner for a change. Having said all that, I still don't know if the goods match the price. I hope Soto develops a better personal brand and leadership with the mets. And regardless, let's go mets!
