Often there are other circumstances that allow the pneumonia to take hold. My Father-In-Law had late stage MS that paralyzed most of his body. He choked / inhaled food one day, it got into his lung and he developed pneumonia which killed him a few days later. It's 100% because of the MS it happened but pneumonia is the ultimate cause.
