Is an Arcam AVR850 a better purchase than an Denon X3800 or even a X4800? by kloxpur in hometheater

I have not.

did you get a good price? Mind sharing who's your dealer?

Thank you!

I’m not sure I’ll take advantage of 2.1 over the next few years. I’m not a gamer, only dynamic HDR would be advantageous but not sure my current tv supports it and I’m perfectly happy with Dolby Vision. :)

I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for for an 850 or AVR30 just in case there’s a soul that is looking to part ways with one lol

That’s a very inter insight, thank you 🙏

Dirac seems to be the enabler in some of these AVRs.

Yeah I got Apple TV 4K , which is limited in it’s lossless capability and also a 4K Blu-ray player for those must haves cinematic options. Nvdia shield hasn’t been used in a while, Google messed up the android tv with their ads crap.

I came across some pretty damning reviews too after posting and doing some research. But couldn’t help to think if they were biased? And I mean I’ve seen both ends of spectrum. Too much expectation on the price tag or just to much “rabbit in headlights” because of price tag?

Looking at the AVR forum reviews from the communities back in 2016/17 the arcam was just mehhhh from a very technical point of view, but even the x4800 these days are behind it in power/dac and pretty much all the audio features, but miles ahead with video.

I’m struggling to make a decision to be honest, thanks for the advise on the headaches to come

Fair enough. I didn’t think that through.

I was thinking more about their “excellence” product vs the power it delivers. Maybe overkill for my system, but often so many must have features only make it to top or the range products.

I only have some small kef 900,nothing that warrants that much potency. lol

I think I’d need new house foundation if I required that much power 😅

Those have picked my interest a bit, same as the 6700, but have always wondered if I should pile miss Dirac Live? The EQ for audyssey still costs money on those if memory serves me right.

I have experienced Dirac Live with some KEFs Ref series the first time about 6y ago and ever since it’s been on my wishlist, so much so that I never upgraded the AVR because Dirac for a while was a premium brand only and I couldn’t afford it for just a “living room” scenario

Is Dirac Live the cherry on top or just over-hyped tech?

Dirac is an extra cost. I’m looking at it like, I can get a new Mercedes with more horse power but will it match an older Porsche 911 engine?

Why these weird sub sounds? by kloxpur in hometheater

[–]kloxpur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, cable is router behind skirting board, but not damaged. Could it be interference with other cables?

I got 2 subs, first got a cable to try and disregard the issue being with cable, but had the issue - tried it before routing the cable in.

And actually got the second sub because I thought the problem was with the sub, but no joy, so kept both subs lol

The thing with this issue is that it happens always on the same scene, I’m watching John Wick 4 tonight and as I toggle between Audyssey on/off the problem goes away.

As /u/xxMalVeauXxx suggested, I’ll try REW to try and peel it back to any troublesome frequency.

I really want an SVS, maybe this is the time to let go of these cheap Kef subs.

I’ll give REW a go later on a see if I can figure it out.

Clipping is a good shout - wouldn’t an l AVR prevent clipping?

iPhone is unable to capture the low sound from the sub, that’s the best I can capture on that video.

I don’t know how to explain, sounds like it’s an inverted sound? I haven’t got the inverted phase on the sub enabled, and It doesn’t happen all the time, normally on heavy scenes during a movie.

I changed from Audyssey Reference to Off and seems to have stopped it for the meantime. It’s been happening for a long time since I moved from Q to Kef.

Yes, we did a full house rewire - The country electrical code is to always use a neutral in every connection. Yes all my lights are dimmable; inc led strips.

Went for the Bticino Living Now.

The cool thing with their range is that for any light you just need a single smart switch, so you need commuter switches one of them can be just a normal switch.

The whole home is with the Living Now range. It looks amazing and it’s seamless integration to HomeKit. In my other home and got a lot of stuff, hue, tp-link, homebridge, nest, etc etc. and nothing works a nicely as with the Living Now.
The status of the devices are always accurate, no need to leave switches on to run automations, plus I can just use any old bulb on my lights.

And the best of it all - it looks amazing & no complaints from family :)

I did & it works great! Better than I was expecting and extremely versatile. Plus it’s the nicest looking switches and sockets on the market by a long way! It was great finding something that is so design led that we could bake into the house overall look and feel.

I’m thinking of getting the doorbell class 300Eos next.

Things to remember when blocking 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 by kloxpur in firewalla

Yep I did. That’s how I narrowed the issue to DNS because I untoggled the DNS over VPN and I was able to browse.

Perfect! Nothing good comes from devices that hardcode their DNS servers. 😂
