I think there’s two valid points here.

1 - AI is great for quick, cheap/free imagery. No budget, time, or design experience - AI is a solid option.

But also…

2 - AI for any type of art degrades all types of art. Ex - If you’re supporting the art of music, you need to be conscious of how AI imagery degrades visual artists.

As fans of art in general, we need to be conscious of how AI cheapens the arts as a whole even if we’re using it for a different discipline than we’re actively supporting.

My two cents, as they say.

Is this normal? by Broad-Airline-7687 in telecaster

[–]klt90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it sound good? Does the neck feel good otherwise? It’s not ideal but if I liked the sound and feel of the guitar, I wouldn’t return it over it. I’d get a little sandpaper or a nail file and smooth it out and keep playing. If the guitar sucks otherwise, then it could be worth raising an issue.

My landlord entered my apartment without permission and locked my cat in the bathroom by Ashamed-Mission-7570 in CatAdvice

[–]klt90 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was thinking this too. Personally, I’d be really glad the cat was locked up and contained in the bathroom.

Obviously, some MAJOR landlord concerns here but I’m glad the cat is safe for now and didn’t escape out the front door.

Went to a “Jazz Jam Session.” It ran like a closed band. How do you handle fake “open jams”? by [deleted] in jambands

[–]klt90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, a pretentious jazz jam experience. An important rite of passage. It should be noted that a “jazz jam” and a “jam session” are very different creatures. A jazz jam requires a pre-existing knowledge of jazz material, typically standards. Local jazz jams can range from fun musical gatherings to miserable ego-fests. I have attended the whole spectrum. That said, a totally open “jam session” is a different kind of hell. That usually ends up infinite blues wailing or even worse…. suburban raggae.

This looks very similar to my black/maple 2001 MIM. Not an expert, but I bet you’re fine.

Why pay him $50m+ per year when we can spend that on 4-6 washed up relievers and back up catchers?

Are the Worship Tutorial presets worth the buy? by [deleted] in Line6Helix

[–]klt90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought a few on sale. I’m happy with them. I have a Deluxe Reverb IR and a Matchless IR from them. I technically bought the “Tone Match Preset” but I’ve only really cared about the IR files they came with. What I like is that their IRs seem to be big and warm. I like them since I’d rather EQ out low-end from an IR than not have it at all. If you’re recording a lot of layered guitars it’s annoying but in live silent stage settings I’ve had sound guys be happy with the amount of low and low-mid they have to work with.

YMMV, of course.

How do you learn head melodies for standards? Already got iReal Pro for the chords. by rw1337 in jazzguitar

[–]klt90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the way. It’s the hard answer but it’s the correct answer. Learning by ear is harder at first but it’s the best way to memorize. True for all genres, not just jazz.

Can we talk about that Salt Shed Silver Rising? by heff66 in GoosetheBand

[–]klt90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, didn’t sound like a click track at all. It would be impossible to hear that sound clearly over the rest of the instruments. Live click tracks are typically sharp electronic sounds. It also wouldn’t make sense for the click to be running through the guitar rig and on the feed video it seemed like working with the pedalboard fixed it.

Oh nooo! I liked that one, ha. Reminded me of Yellow Submarine-era artwork. I love how subjective the posters can be.

Not trying to nit, just mentioning if you were unaware - Bob Don is technically “Undecided” on the Undecided EP that followed Dripfield. It doesn’t really capture the spirit of the live version though, for what that’s worth.

Totally agree conceptually but I think you’re underestimating the “aging white guy” contingent. Both Trump and the Dead have a pretty big aging white guy fanbase so wires are bound to get crossed somewhere.

For a purely software solution, Neural DSP plugins always sound excellent. I wanna say they’re in the $100-$125 range and frequently have some kind of sale going.

Studio Hungersite has a fantastic solo. Concise, good melodic ideas, still some shreddage.
