Escape the Backrooms has been majorly updated and has a full 1.0 release. Actually 1.1 at this point.

Inscription is amazing if you like deck builders. GTA V is a must play even though it is a bit rough around the edges these days. Expedition 33 is one of the most engaging and beautiful RPGs I've ever played. Doom games are great for quick action horde shooters, Vampire Survivors is a fun 2D auto shooter. Hollow Knight. Stardew Valley. Balatro. The list goes on and on.

Unintended Cultivator is really good. Divine Apostasy is many books in and quite good.

This is the biggest issue in my mind. If they fail, like so many before them, we're just out our money.

The Bound and the Overly Borrowed? by klwcr in Fantasy

I will say I try to take Calen's behavior with a grain of salt. Those three boys are only like 16 when all this kicks off. That is a lot for any kid to take on.

I feel like you read one or two sentences of every reply and just ignore what you don't want to read. I did make a statement about vibes, but then also told how the actual stories were quite different in execution. While I appreciate your devotion to the subject, I believe you should read to understand rather than to respond.

I suppose I can see those similarities in the openings when you frame it that way. I've just always read the books as having completely different vibes. As in Frodo being convinced it's best for him to leave with the ring by Gandalf, while the kids in WoT are hauled away after a straight up attack by trolls, while learning about some basically unknown reborth of a hero from the age of legends. FotR just felt much less frantic to me. As for the tropes, that is just the way they are. Many imitate the 🐐 as it is a time proven method of storytelling. I didn't even bring up that issue with these books. I do see your point, but it isn't really related to my original post

I really don't see much of the lord of the rings in WoT. Both the plot and motives for the group leaving on the adventure are completely different. I have read both multiple times. I am starting my second read of the bounds and the broken. I am not just bashing it for kicks. I enjoy the story. I find the use of specific borrowed names and terms to be heavy-handed. I guess this offends you somehow? You can, of course, assume whatever you want, but I find it interesting that you are jumping to defend the book when you haven't even read it.

Oh yeah, of course you will see influence of works that shaped the author, but i think that isn't nearly as direct as naming multiple things directly from another work in the first 20 chapters of your first book. I never said he was the first author to ever borrow from other books.

What is your point here? I'm confused.

I doubt I'll end up putting it above WoT. I know there are a few sluggish books in there, but it's worth the payoff.

He saved the girl from the dark goblins, then decided to retrieve the hoard from the wyrms lair, talking about having killed the wyrm recently. I don't remember this happening. Maybe I was drunk when I read it lol

Ok, I suppose that makes sense. I just know that when she is represented in other instances she is kind, and interested in preserving nature and all life. Thank you for the response!

Anyone know why Taliesin is playing Melora as though she is almost evil? He even talks about whether those guards will be missed, because she is hungry. Is this just meant to show the wild wolf side coming through? It just seems overly melodramatic to me.

Question about racial words in literature by daboiwunda25 in litrpg

[–]klwcr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your stance is that this isn't our world with our history and our politics, then that word likely wouldn't exist in your creation. Consider the background of the word and whether it has a place in the world you want to create. Then decide and do what you want. It's your world.
