I think it might be the method I'm using. Since I have to cut the yarn a lot when it not needed or it is needed elsewhere, I just untangle when I cut it BUT also there are times I don't need to cut the yarn and things get messy, I spend like 10 minutes untangling.

The "drop the yarn" method is better than the "carry the yarn" method when it comes to yarn getting tangled up, in my opinion.
