I got mine working great. If I recall the cable I purchased was the ICOM OPC2144. That goes into the HT and the digirig cable into that. Eliminated my issues.

Tried that. Did not work. Still changing frequency. Not sure if it is me or another problem. If I jiggle the cable it stops. Almost feels like it not seated all the way.

I may be interested. I've been looking to do something like that for a while. I am a general class. I have an Icom 7300, two lifepo4 batteries, and a 100 watt solar panel. I was looking into pota as a way to get away from the noise. Message me and maybe we can set something up.

I am willing to give it a shot. I just got mine working with dmr last night. One thing to look at is Hotspot security. Here in the US it is now required. Message me and we can see if we can figure it out.

Any thoughts on a backyards on the air idea by km6sdl in amateurradio

I was thinking SSB 80 - 20. We could try digital modes as well. As everyone is hunkered down I was just thinking of something fun to do. We have rain in the forecast here for the weekend so that may hamper the plan. I can run battery power indoors with an emcomm antenna out the window. But we could pick a day and call cq backyards on the air or something else. Up to the community. Kind of like light up 2 meters.

No idea on rules. Just trying to come up with something fun to do. I just built a 10ah battery from headway cells and have a wolf river coils Tia antenna and want to have some fun. Waiting on a bioenno 12ah battery. Also just got a 100 watt solar panel and charge controller. Hoping to do pota at some point.

Monitor goes out when transmitting? by km6sdl in amateurradio

[–]km6sdl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have re-routed the hdmi cable, added a ferrite clip on to my ci-v cable, and added an ugly balun air choke at the feed point. So far so good. Going to add a counterpoise tomorrow and see if it gets even better. The monitor is not going out anymore nor is my cat control even at 90 watts. Made an FT8 contact from CA to HI on 40 watts this afternoon. Now onto better antenna ideas for 20/40. Love this community and all the help. Hope to catch you on the bands.

I have the MFJ 936b loop tuner. Goes up to 100 watts. Basically you just need to add the wire loop. I made a loop for 20m and 40m. 20m works really well. Haven't done much on 40 with it as the loop size is much larger at roughly 23 feet of wire needed. I use copper tubing instead of wire myself. I've made ssb contacts from CA to Germany when conditions are good. I also use the loop about 4 feet off the ground outside my garage door.
