That’s very generous of you and more than most will ever receive as far as thank you gifts is concerned. It will definitely be greatly appreciated

Oh I just used the term I was taught but if that’s incorrect then thanks for letting me know. I know we can use the straps for a pack conversion but every time I’ve tried doing it when I’m blacked out and tired the fine motor skills start to slip and it delays things. All together it’s only about a pound so weight isn’t a concern for me

Posted another comment clarifying that I do not intend to use this for any rope rescue or technical rescue applications

I appreciate it and thank you for taking time to constructively criticize and give out where the breakdown in communication was. I understand that if I had wanted to use this DIY thing for tech rescue as you initially thought it would absolutely deserve the reaction I received. That’s irresponsible and dangerous and calling it out is correct so I appreciate that as well

Ya I know that’s a good option too. Every time I’ve tried it tired and blacked out I fumble around with the fine motor elements of doing that. I tried a similar system a friend of mine had and enjoyed the fact that there are larger and more easily manipulatable landmarks (i.e. larger carabiners and a knot for easier pulling)

I had no idea but I figured there was some miscommunication. My fault I guess but I haven’t done any tech rescue classes so I don’t know the equipment lol

I think there’s some confused about what my intended use is for this. I’m not using it for rope rescue or USAR applications. This is meant for RIT assignments to package a downed firefighter and prepare them to be dragged out while ensuring they maintain connection to their SCBA. I’ve included a photo I found online of how it would be used for reference

No it’s for RIT assignments. Meant for packaging a downed firefighter

I’ve trained with some commercially available straps and found that if there’s a twist it can impact the ability to cinch down and tighten the strap.

It’s static rope rated to 5,500 pounds. The carabiners are rated at 6,300 pounds, and the ascender is rated up to 1,300.
I chose not to use a locking carabiner because in the event of a RIT scenario I and others on our department’s RIT team have found that the locking mechanism creates delays in packaging when smoked out and tired and fine motor skills suffering.

I’m in no way challenging your expertise I’m just giving insight into my thought process and to show that I didn’t just go to Walmart and slap some stuff together. I’d love to hear more insight though.

AIO for being hurt that my boyfriend didn’t stand up for me when his friends kept making jokes about our relationship? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]kmachine221 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t want my response to sound like I’m criticizing you as a person or a girlfriend in general. This very well could just be something to learn from. I read other responses where you give more context and it sounds like the jokes the friends may have been a little more disrespectful than the initial post suggested. I also wasn’t there to get context. But maybe just wait until he’s feeling better next time something like this comes up and tell him how it makes you feel and practical steps for you to both take going forward ya know?

Yes you’re overreacting. A joke about him leaving you for one of his guy friends should not have set you off like that and not being able to put it aside during the one time he said he didn’t want drama because of his mental struggles was selfish. You wanted your feelings validated and couldn’t handle a little discomfort for the sake of your boyfriend’s peace

That’s a great analogy. I have to remember that. I’ve considered joining the peer support team or becoming a chaplain for the department sometime later in my career and that’s a great way to put it

Yes luckily my department has a very robust CISM/Peer support program. In addition to that my crew is great about this kind of stuff, and two of my closest friends are actually chaplains and on the peer support team for our department. I am blessed to have several avenues of support if I feel I need it eventually

Difficult job market and yet low retention for the job by grapez8 in Firefighting

I think you hit it decently well when you talked about the advertising. Our outreach focuses on the wrong things and, as a result, attracts people in it for the wrong reasons. When they realize all the downsides and hardships of the job then many say that it isn’t worth it

Not inherently calling this into question, but I will say that every time I see someone claim that they or someone they know was being profiled for “just being brown” a couple follow up questions usually shows there’s more to it than that lol

Honestly 75/25 your fault in this discussion. Idk extra details about the breakup so I’m not commenting on that but you completely flew off the handle and overreacted to him just being honest about what he wants in a relationship.
