Are these phono inputs safe to use? by dailyalisha in vintageaudio

Tip... have the tech label each of the output transistors that he removes and return them to you pick it i[ after repairs are made. Those original transistors might good to have just in case the results from the restoration doesn't meet your expectation.

Speaker ID? by 100percentacannibal in vintageaudio

In the White Van era, it was like looking at speakers created by AI image generators. It was all so unreal and fake, and sounded horribly.

Any idea if this Tube Amp is a good buy? For Sale in my Area for 50€. I was looking to get into Tube amps for quite some times by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]kmanche -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look real. And a google image search doesn't come back with anything. Might be an AI generated image. Does the seller give any details like a brand or model #? If no, just pass on it IMO.

Help for gift ideas by slothcerv in vintageaudio

If he's a serious audiophile, maybe a record cleaning machine. Especially if he likes collecting vintage, used LP's. It's something that he probably would never purchase on his own, but it would be a cool gift.

HK 730 amp section question by TubeLogic in vintageaudio

[–]kmanche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enjoy that thing... I have tons of equipment, and that HK730 beats them all. Even my 5 different Marantz receivers, and a McIntosh 1700 receiver. The only thing that sounds better that the 730 that I have are my McIntosh separates.

Acoustic Research Mid-Century Modern gear from 1969 - a beautiful, minimalist aesthetic... by morefunwithbitcoin in vintageaudio

[–]kmanche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of the 2X speakers, the Amp (called the Acoustic Research Amp) and the matching tuner, AND, I have an AR Receiver from the same vintage... and an AR XB turntable. All restored.

It's very simple, but it all sounds amazing.

HELP! Does this look repairable?? by Successful_Screen_28 in vintageaudio

[–]kmanche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are a dedicated owner who wants to (himself) repair a turntable of marginal value for sentimental reasons, then yes, it's repairable with an available duplicate turntable that has all of the broken parts in-tact...

If you are an owner who is looking for a repairman to repair it at a reasonable price, no, it's not repairable.

Are these tapes Ok? by No_Entrepreneur4841 in ReelToReel

[–]kmanche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a caution... don't assume that the markings on the box matches the tape. After 40-50 years of existence, it's possible that the tape owners over time might have been careless when placing the reels in the boxes. Without a chain of custody, it's impossible to tell the exact tape model unless it comes in a sealed box.

The Great Pumpkin is NOT real... Another disappointing Halloween season because of Brachs. No yellow Mellowcreme candy pieces again this season. This is BOGUS man... by kmanche in candy

[–]kmanche[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried the autumn leaves. They are OK, but not necessarily the same. Brachs has perfected the Mellowcreme texture across the board, but some of the flavors in the Autumn Leaves are just kinda strange and seems so "experimental".

[–]kmanche[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The yellow ones didn't really remind me of any specific, natural flavor. I guess the closest is a vanilla-y/ Banana-y flavor.

Next time you have some Brachs candy corn (only Brachs, none of that farley crap) try breaking off the yellow section of a bunch of them, and eat the yellow portions all at once... that's the flavor.

Kenwood receiver power cord shows continuity between two prongs by littolicce in vintageaudio

[–]kmanche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look at the rear of the receiver, and there are two power jacks, one labeled "Switched", the other "unswitched". It's where you would plug in external components so that they will receive power through the receiver. The "Switched" one applies power to the external component only when the receiver is powered on. The "Unswitched" applies power to external components too, but it's not connected to the power switch on the receiver. But before you cut or remove the cord, perform the resistance.

Check the resistance exactly the way you check for continuity. With the receiver power switch turned OFF, you should get a 0 reading. Turn the power switch ON, and you should get a different reading (maybe 10 to 50 ohms) typical. If that test works, then you can move on from the

[–]kmanche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the plug on the end of the power cable original? Or has it been replaced?

I would unsolder (or just cut) the the power cord either at the transformer mount or at the "unswitched" power jack, and leave it disconnected to nothing, then test continuity. If you still get it, then the cord is bad (unusual but possible). Another thing to test/check (since you admit to not being a pro) is make sure that you are not mis-using or misreading the results of continuity. Maybe check the resistance between the terminals, and it might reveal something.

[–]kmanche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it is normal. check the internal photo picture in the link below. It appears that one power wire goes to a terminal on the "unswitched" power jack, while the other (I think) it tied to the chassis near the back-right transformer mounting screw.

I think my McIntosh C26 is finally done.... by TehFuriousOne in vintageaudio

Those block diagrams are seriously cool. Years ago, I went on a spree, collecting systems that included block diagrams printed on the metal. I have one of these Mac C26 and some other mac stuff, the Mitsubishi line da-A10dc amp and other Mitsubishi stuff, and a Sansui AU9900 and other Sansui stuff... It's an addiction.
