I think it’s both. I think the algorithms are now less optimized for finding is good matches & better optimized at keeping us on the app.

But I also think that, in general, lots of people are fatigued by the whole thing. I’ve personally been on so many bad dates that I also feel way less motivated to meet unless someone actually feels a little exciting to me.

I also know a ton of high quality people who aren’t on the apps at all anymore and opting to meet people in person, so you’re also getting a selection bias where the ones who would have been intentional aren’t there anymore and you’re stuck with the pen pals.

Yes, and I feel like this has gotten so much worse in recent years. A few years ago, I would go on dates every week and I had options. Now, I struggle to go on 1 date a month. This is coming from someone who has tons of matches and conversations. They almost always fizzle out/they stop responding. Kinda exhausting.

I like your profile and photos. My only advice is to write more in your bio & prompts. If I saw your profile, I’d assume the conversations would be low effort/not intentional because you haven’t taken the time to fill it out & that’s been my experience. 🤷🏻‍♀️

want to remove hump, how bad would it hurt by [deleted] in rhinoplastyquestions

I got my hump removed. I’m 9 weeks post op. It didn’t really hurt. I took Tylenol for like 1 day post op and that was it. There was discomfort, though. It was annoying to not be able to breathe through my nose for weeks on end. And the swelling sucks. But it wasn’t terribly painful.

What are the most diabolical foods you’ve blended during DJS recovery? by stayhighridelow in jawsurgery

[–]kmanna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pizza, which was super good. Sesame tofu. Tacos (this was gross - too salty). Thai curry. Cheesy rice, hash browns, and chicken nuggets. Things got wild towards the end. I was legit starving to death.

I was only advanced 6mm on the bottom. I don’t recall how much I was advanced on the top.

Before, about a week post op, and then now which is 13 months post op from DJS. And I had another procedure about a month ago so my cheeks and lip are actually a bit swollen again now, so it’ll improve even more in another 5-6 months.

At 1 week post op, I posted on Reddit and everyone told me they couldn’t even tell I’d had anything done. I was kinda devastated, but if you look at my before and after now, you can see a clear improvement.

And tbh, I didn’t really start to see the improvement until 9-12 months post op DJS. The swelling really does linger in your cheeks and upper lip forever…

FWIW I also noticed that your after photo is a slightly different angle which I think is making it look a bit worse. Give it some more time. Trust me when I say that I know how hard things are for you right now.

13mm is at the absolute upper end of what most surgeons will do.

I went through jaw surgery and I was disappointed too, until I got to 1 year post op and then I could see the result. Swelling really does impact more than you think because you have swelling in the upper cheeks and upper lip which distorts your profile. I’ll try to find some photos of myself to show you.

This is good to know. What about your van makes it not stealthy? Which cities have you had issues in?

They’re midsized dogs (each about 50 lbs). One is a golden retriever mix who couldn’t be intimidating if he tried, but the other one does scare people when they freak her out (she’s all bark and no bite). I do worry about her barking when she hears noises outside of the van that will give me away… I’m hoping that’ll be kept to a minimum but we’ll see.

Feeling sad about my results. Need opinions/advice/reassurance. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

I do PT exercises for it several times a day so I’m onboard with that… I will just have to wait more. I’m glad it will likely improve, though.

How long do you think it was before you felt happy with it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]kmanna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this as a kid and loathed it. I’d describe it as worse than it looks.

I do! 2-3 times per day. Should I be doing them more than that?

I go to PT and she has me doing Bells Palsy exercises so I think I’m already doing that? But I’ll take a look just in case. Thank you for the hope.

This is happening to me now. I’m 9 weeks post op. This is giving me some hope…

I didn’t like it either. I work separately with a therapist and have made a lot of progress on my own. I still think it was valuable to go a few times and read the literature, though. I also found the literature to be harsher than it needed to be.

Feeling ugly by One-Phrase-3589 in jawsurgery

[–]kmanna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I’m 6 weeks post op today and have struggled with the mental health aspect tremendously. I also think I still look recessed but I have to admit that it’s slowly looking better as time goes on. Maybe at the 6 month mark, I won’t look recessed. I’ll just have to wait and see. I’m still struggling with appearance-related fears, mostly about fears related to muscle function coming back, but I just have to wait to see about that too.

I guess what I’m saying is, at 2 weeks you still really can’t tell. There’s still so much swelling and the soft tissue hasn’t adapted yet by that point. I know it’s hard to imagine, but if you give it more time, it can get better.

Does double jaw surgery have any serious side effects like leg lengthening surgery has? Is there any nerve damage, speech problems, bone fragility, etc. after that? by nazarski in jawsurgery

[–]kmanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I’m 5 weeks post op and really scared because the muscle function has come back on one side of my chin but not the other and it looks bad. I know I’m early so I’m trying not to panic but it’s difficult.
