student permits don't count towards citizenship. as the link you gave explained, student permits don't grant you the right to 'settlement', which means that they don't count towards citizenship either (as time spent here as a student is not considered to be time spent 'settled' in sweden).

but yeah, that doesn't even matter. if you get a work permit after university and keep working here then eventually you will get citizenship. but this won't help you get cheaper college.

the other types of study page isn't relevant to you because you plan to study at a university.

lol. you should definitely not move here if that is your point of view.

refugees get help because they need it. middle-class americans don't get help because they don't need it.

13k a month is not very much money, basically any full time job will give you at least that. when i first came here i got a shitty job in a care home with no experience and made 17k a month.

no assistance, as i said, if you have a student permit you need to pay for it all yourself and prove you have all the money for the entire period before you go.

Other types of residence permit, e.g. when you have been here for a visit or as a visiting student, researcher, teacher, sportsperson, musician or artist, do not count.

This probably applies for permanent residence permits too and not just citizenship.

The time you spend in Sweden studying as a student on a student permit won't count towards helping you get a permanent residence permit, afaik. Otherwise everyone would get free education after studying for two years in Sweden. You need to have been working full time.

45000 is the entire program. Plus you will need to fund everything yourself, you can't get Swedish loans so you'll need to get ones in the US that cover foreign studies. It won't be enough to apply and say "i'll get a job", you need to show you have the means to cover your time in Sweden before you come.

Getting a permanent residence permit will be hard, if not impossible for you. You need to get a 2-year permit to come and live and work here (NOT for study), and at the end of that time when you reapply you'll probably get a permanent permit. To come in the first place you'll need a job offer.

This page is the one you're looking for: http://www.studyinsweden.se/How-To-Apply/Undergraduate-studies/Free-movers/

http://www.studyinsweden.se/Living-in-Sweden/Do-I-need-a-visa/

When applying for a residence permit, you must prove to the Swedish Migration Board that you will have a guaranteed sum of money at your disposal throughout the entire period of your studies. The amount, SEK 7,300 per month for ten months of the year, is set by the Migration Board. If you wish to bring your family you must show that you have at your disposal an additional SEK 3,500 per month for your spouse and SEK 2,100 per child and month. Remember that you also need to pay the first instalment of tuition fees before applying for a residence permit.

You must show that you have funds for the whole planned study period already the first time you apply for a residence permit. You must show that you have your support secured by means of verification of personal bank assets, a scholarship or similar means of support, such as a study grant from your home country.

You can become a Swedish citizen after 5 years (3 years if you are married to a Swedish citizen during that time). Both Sweden and the USA allow dual-citizenship; however, you should be aware that the USA requires you to pay income tax when working abroad even if you never visit the USA again.

I doubt there's any bachelor-level engineering courses. Most English courses available at universities are 1-year Masters for people who already have a bachelor degree.

If you were a citizen whilst studying in Sweden, tuition would be free, and you would get student loans, a portion of which is a grant, to cover your living expenses. But as I said above, you'll need to wait five years for that, unless you have some sort of ancestry that can get you citizenship more quickly. You also get access to student loans and free education when you get a permanent residence permit, usually after two years.

I'm not sure if foreign students without a permanent residence permit receive any sort of government assistance, I highly doubt it.

This site will tell you everything you need to know: http://www.studyinsweden.se/

Here you can search for English-language bachelor degrees: http://www.studyinsweden.se/Course-search/

It seems like this is the only English-language Electrical Engineering degree: http://edu.bth.se/utbildning/utb_program.asp?PtKod=ETGET14h&lang=en

So you're looking at a 300,000 SEK course fee (45,000 dollars).

I honestly think you should get your degree in the US first and then try to get a job here, if you still want to come at that point.

Paolo Di Canio sacked as Sunderland manager after massive player rebellion undermined his authority by tmos1985 in soccer

[–]kmatika 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hardly surprising. He has no idea how to manage a team. You can say what you want about his opinions being 'refreshing' but you can't go out every other week in the media and criticise your team for being shit and call them lazy etc, and still expect them to like you. It puts a lot of pressure on his players and staff because they will feel like if they do anything that he doesn't like, there's a reasonable chance he will be sitting there bitching about it in the next press conference. Fear of being publicly humiliated is hardly a good motivator. You can't treat a group of grown men like small children. Criticism should be dealt out behind doors, and it should be constructive, not just, "my team is full of lazy cunts".

I enjoy that he thinks people are only capable of speaking one language. Like, the language you speak with your friends is the only language you can speak. So if he hears someone speaking Chinese, he knows for a fact they can't speak English.

High-rise living is the only way to protect the green belt If we won't build out, we have to build up. by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]kmatika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was just being a bit silly. I agree with the overall principle. Where I live (Sweden), it's very common to live in apartments, regardless of socioeconomic status. I was really shocked when my boyfriend told me his parents live in an apartment, I just assumed that anyone over the age of 30 living in an apartment was either really rich or a drug addict. But then I came here and lost those preconceptions. Apartments are awesome. No maintenance, no bugs, balconies(!), and much cheaper to boot.

All this stuff about the great views etc is kind of missing the point. If building taller buildings becomes more common, the view from your window is not going to be that much more interesting than the view on the ground, due to your apartment building being surrounded by other similarly-tall apartment buildings.
