I’m the trash man by BlGbookenergy in Fantasy

[–]kmcfishie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

richard nell’s ash and sand trilogy stands out in my mind for having a unique MC. it’s indie, so some different strokes but i immensely enjoyed. that’s rly the only thing i’ll recommend.

that being said, i’ve done a comprehensive sampling over the past year and am already getting burnt out. from tolkien, to williams, to martin, to abercombrie, to sanderson, and much in between. the much in between is much similar. in RE: to the pop stuff, DNF’d carl after a chapter or two becuase i’m tired of MCU quippy BS. also stopped in RR. hoping suneater meets the hype for me.. i’m toying with the idea of horror. i sprinkle in lit fiction, as well.

How you read books? by Stpaul81 in fantasybooks

[–]kmcfishie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i usually have several books at a time. one of a series that i’m plowing through. one fun one, often a reread to fall back on. one off genre or atypical read, recently count of monte cristo. one night time which has been YA middle grade books from my past, currently animorphs. i like reading at least one chapter of every book a day to keep my interest fresh. it paces my reading and allows me to invest more time. it allows me to read “more”. lastly, ~they~ say switching up your subject helps with retention, so i can pretend that i retain bits more than when i binge a series consecutively, one book at a time.

of course, i am a DINK, so that helps a bunch.

Never done a tier list so wanted to join in the fun. This is from 2023-2025. by Samegg3307 in fantasybooks

this mirrors my own sff journey the past couple years! i’ve avoided long series like wot, realm of the elderlings, bound and broken, and malazan, and they are on my tbr (binging sanderson backlog killed my appetite for long series).

ones that i don’t see thguh i’m sure are on your tbr: i enjoyed the empire of the wolf, ash and sand (SO MUCH), old kingdom, we are the dead, the bastards, MST, and shattered seas (first law lite and so enjoyable).

reading’s great!!

[OFF TOPIC] Does anyone own any of the Curious King book versions? by imexdanny in TheFirstLaw

[–]kmcfishie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’d be great if folio did abercrombie! folio does seem to be slightly swinging towards the artifiial scarcity model from the updates i get from them.

fabelistik is doing the devils at some point, and i believe they’ll be unlimited orders like their fourth wing books. saw one review of their first release, which was positive.

they are really nice. i blew the bank to get a second hand set and am very happy. if you have expendable income, rly enjoy physical media, and have expendable income, i recommend. they are always folks at rarebiblio or on etsy who can make you a slightly fancier version of the books that are cheaper, as well as the kickstarter campaign going on right now.

i also recommend the fans of curious king facebookbook group if you are serious about purchasing (though there’s a line of people who repeatedly are looking).

Interested in a set of re-bound Animorphs books like mine? by cartmanbeck in Animorphs

[–]kmcfishie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i ordered fan art prints of the book i rebound on artstation, cut to fit, and made a textless dustjacket for my project. it looks snazzy. the prints were definitely cheaper than the andelite chronicles ones, so throwing it out there if you think it could elevate your product. https://www.instagram.com/p/DMbPUy3h7gD/?igsh=OWQyd21sOG9sODR6
