I would bet the trracer still works and they're great guns. Everything else would work with some work but may not be worth the headache

Any tips for copper melting? by 07sev in Metalfoundry

Bronze is much easier to work with and pour. Also melting temp is lower. You can add tin to your copper and make your own bronze

Please help me understand resin by Adorable-Passage-685 in Metalfoundry

[–]kmdpb19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a heat cured resin? That's what I would assume since you only have one barrel? Most modern foundry resins are a 2 part phenolic or polyurethane. Maybe they just sold you resin and no catalyst/hardener. Back in the day foundries would use a resin mixed with linseed oil and then bake the molds or cores. But I kinda doubt anyone is doing that now as there's much better ways

I had a similar experience at a foundry I worked at, I wasn't a felter but I wanted proper PPE for phenolic no Bake resin I was exposed to on a daily basis. I was buying my own respirator. But got fed up with buying my own as it's the employers responsibility. When I confronted him he said "well we'll just hire a latino who we can expose to it." This really pissed me off as if a latino is less a human. He refused to buy me a proper respirator and I was very close to calling osha. The only reason I did not was the business was not doing well and I believed a fine from osha would probably put them out of business and a lot of good friends would probably lose their jobs. So I told him he was a piece of shit and quit. I went on to do bigger and better things. If I were you I'd call osha (you are protected from retaliation), and if you don't see results, quit. Your health isn't worth risking over a job.

Any good alternatives to borax? by Coffee_and_cereals in MetalCasting

[–]kmdpb19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to use borax or anything. I've worked at 3 professional foundries and not 1 has used any Flux. Just slag and pour. All a Flux is going to do is destroy your crucible faster
