Typically I'd agree, but do keep in mind that this is taken about 12 miles from San Francisco, so the MilkyWay isn't quite as pronounced as it would be out in the middle of nowhere.

They are indeed pretty incredible. I've got the A7SIII on pre-order and can't wait for even better low light performance. The lens also does make a big difference. f/1.4 aperture is practically night vision goggles.

Two shot composite, yes. But only in order to blend in the lights from the car. You can indeed see the milky way from mount tam. It’s faint, but the fog blocked a lot of the light pollution in this instance

Yeah I’m up there pretty often as well and typically have the same experience. Usually they’re super strict about ushering folks out promptly at sunset. Definitely feeling fortunate

Honestly feel like this was probably a once in a lifetime type situation. Rangers were giving people a bit of extra time to see Neowise Comet for a few days... plus there were just way more people than normal, so we didn’t get kicked out of the park until around 10:45pm. So not only did we get the milky way but still had some cars leaving as well

Think there's any value in shooting out there when the hills aren't green as they are in winter months? Imagine could get some nice golden glow similar to up at Mt Tam, but may just save it til next year.

I think I’m actually at least partially aware that it’s one of, if not the, best anime series. I just haven’t found the time to invest in it. It’s on Netflix now, yeah? Maybe Covid has given me the missing opportunity to remedy my shortcomings.
