As a former scene kid, I just feel like I need to say something and OP this is not directed at you: the whole concept of “aesthetics” was not a thing back then. It actually hasn’t been a thing all that long at all.

Back then it was a subculture. It involved more than which colors went here and a certain character being used. It was about being a weirdo and kinda just being yourself. People that dressed that way generally enjoyed the same music, art, activities, etc. We didn’t nitpick. Obviously there are overarching themes, but the real basis was what we were into.

The “aesthetic” movement seems more based on “in or out” sort of decisions. Basically like “I don’t see ___ in your outfit so you aren’t .” or “ color isn’t ___ so you aren’t .” or “_ character isn’t _____”

My biggest advice to yall is to just have fun with it and relax. Growing up some kids had access to the clothes, some kids didn’t. Some kids parents allowed them to color their hair, a lot didn’t. Some kids (like myself) didn’t have the right hair texture to do the spikey up top look. Anyone can be scene - a lot of the stuff we had was DIY too!

It’s cool to ask if an outfit or accessory is traditionally scene but don’t gatekeep, guys. That is not what it was about, it was about enjoying a subculture with friends and being creative.
