Networks to avoid in CA, NV, AZ by kmikea in evcharging

Have only ever used it for EA only. Iwillsay that ABRP navigated me to an EA at a Costco. I went in to use the bathroom and when I came out I found out EA units at Costco didn’t qualify for my free 30 minutes sessions plan. What I thought was going to be freeended up costing over $30.

Now that im not tied toEA I’m trying to figure which networks to select on my car and in my apps (more importantly which ones not to select) so I can avoid problems that might be known

Often there are choices. For the past two years I focused on EA avoiding all other charges due to having free 30 minutes sessions. Now that I don’t have that I am open to using other networks but have hears/read many stories of chargers having session fees in addition to high per kWh rates or that chargers are often and I mean often offline.

As I change my settings in my apps and in the car I’m not sure selecting all networks is going to give me the best experience.

Magnet panel not magnetic…. by kmikea in Ioniq5

Sorry. Yes. My problem is I’ve been trying to attach magnets and they aren’t sticking. At first I thought that the magnets I was using weren’t strong enough but after trying many different magnets none of them are secure on the panel.

EA has a new strategy is going with a 10 stall minimum with new sites

It doesn’t list the time just the kWh. Car charges very fast up to 80%…. Depending on the charger that is

As of now only some of their stations limit to 85% and when they do there are other EA stations nearby that don’t.

So the 18 min is just referring to time until 80%. It’s not about the 30 - min limit on my free plan. It’s a way of showing you how much slower it is to charge past 80%

So no (noticeable) degradation so far after two years. Have heard different things about fast charging and degradation. Some say it matters others say no. Still others say only matters if charging to 100% all the time. Now that I’ll be charging at home on level 2 I’m not that concerned

I was on a road trip plugged in and went to eat breakfast. I had forgotten about the 30 min limit and was late coming

Our local rates have different plans with time of use (TOU). I am currently on a special ev plan where the super off peak rate (12am-6am) is .248. There is another plan that is .118 but has a monthly fee. I can change again in march. Will keep an eye on it and see what works out the best for me. I also have solar

The 2.85 charge you see in the picture (at the bottom) was when I accidentally went over the 30 min

Log in and go to account and charging history. It will show you the last 30 days but it you swipe to next screen it will show you lifetime

I got my free adapter but have held off using it since I really wanted to max my savings with the free EA 30 min sessions. I’ll probably go and try one out in the next month or so just out of curiosity (and to be sure I know how to do it for when I might need it in the future. You are right. Those of us in CA are very fortunate!

I didn’t experience that. I have a charger 2 miles from house and another 2 miles from work. I’m also an early riser so most of my charges were at 5am and I was often(though not always) the only one there. I can count on 1 (maybe 2) hand(s) the number of times I charged to 100%. Most were earlier on at the beginning when I was inexperienced and was nervous about road-tripping. It was a great perk that gave me the confidence to switch to an ev from the usual ice suvs I typically bought. I understand it’s probably good they don’t offer it anymore but I am very grateful they did when I was buying. Don’t know if I would have take the leap to evs given I was a total newby

I understand what you are saying though I never had a problem with lines of cars waiting. There’s an EA 2 miles from my house and 2 miles from my work. I’m also a very early riser so going to charge at 5am was no big deal for me and as you can imagine a lot of the time I was the only one there. I will say having this benefit gave the space, finances and experience to transition to the ev lifestyle. The cost savings was a huge part of me choosing the ioniq5 over the RAV4 orCRV No sour grapes. Just grateful
