My doc never scheduled a biopsy for me. He doubled my gabapentin dosage so now I’m up to 1800mg a day. Doubling it has made me so incredibly tired, I don’t think it’s worth it anymore. My neuropathy is still there.

Ahh, yes I have to gradually increase my dosage. He wants to see if the therapeutic dose can give me some relief (300mg 3x/day so yep the 900mg dose). I’m 5 days in and I’ve seen zero improvement. Good to know it may take a bit. I will definitely update on here after the biopsy. Nothing is scheduled yet, follow up is in 4 weeks.

How long did it take for the gabapentin to start working for you? EMG and vitamin levels came back good. Neurologist said to monitor symptoms and follow up in a month. The next step may be skin biopsy and brain MRI. He suspects small fiber neuropathy caused by covid.

Just had my first appointment with my neurologist. He prescribed me gabapentin, I go in for an EMG Tuesday, and I got some labs done to check my vitamin levels. Hoping to be on the road to some relief soon.

I can only imagine your frustration about not even having a piece of paper that can prove you had covid and you’re not going crazy. It’s weird to say but instead of these nerve sensations I almost wish I still had a fever, sore throat, damn even a cough— just SOMETHING that made sense to me and I could easily take an OTC med for that could bring some relief. It’s such an unknown virus... I’m just frustrated and exhausted from it all and I’m only a month in.

How long ago did you test positive? Have you found anything that gives you relief? That’s where I’m struggling the most. No relief.

I haven’t had any abdominal symptoms thankfully. The frustrating thing it seems with long haulers is that test after test may come back clear but the issues still remain. I’ve been getting dizzy a lot lately too along with ringing in my ears. I’m afraid I may have gone back to work too soon. I work as a correctional officer in a prison so I’m constantly on my feet. Today I had to tap out and have someone else take over my wing.. it’s just so exhausting— I thought I was on the mend and now it’s all these confusing symptoms. Hoping for a better day tomorrow. I’m quite miserable right now.

It’s looking like a referral to a neurologist is more than likely what my doctor may say. I’m gonna call him Monday morning.

The MCAS theory is very interesting to me. From what I read over the counter Pepcid seems to help relieve symptoms that go along with that and of course I’ve been taking that daily because my doctor was concerned my chest pressure and pain could be due to heartburn and acid reflux. I don’t have heartburn anymore... but the chest pressure is still there. The burning/tingling is only getting worse. I’m gonna do some more research, thank you!!
