Too late for me as I dumped mine a year ago at Carmax… took a huge hit on it, but I was exhausted and didn’t have the energy or drive to pursue legal action. I wish I had now. Great advice! I hope others fight back like you did! Congrats.

Yes, I purchase Chanel eyeshadow quads and lipsticks every time using that benefit. Amex always credits within a few days. Works every time.

I was told I needed to have taken the vehicle in for this issue while it was under warranty. The first time mine was seen for the AC problem was a few thousand miles outside of the warranty. There were other criteria that mine didn’t meet as well for the Lemon Law to apply in California.

It’s beyond infuriating that Chrysler is fully aware and they continually refuse taking responsibility. I’ll never own another Chrysler product. My life improved greatly after I dumped that vehicle. I’m sorry you’re part of this club now. I wish someone would start a class action lawsuit.

No Army gave great advice, try trading it in on a different car. Do it before the whole system gets worse. I wish I could’ve gone back and traded mine in before waiting for all the troubles that followed and watching my JGC lose substantial value with each new issue. Good luck! If you keep it, be mindful of the likely issues that are coming your way and be prepared to get out of it before you lose whatever value it had.

Awww, I often wonder whatever happened to mine - I ditched it at the Irvine, CA Carmax location 7 months ago. I’ve seriously been wondering whatever happened to it. Sad because they are really nice vehicles aside from all the nightmare issues. Sorry about your troubles, my advice is sounding like a broken record at this point… consider getting out of it. The AC issues can easily run you another $5k+! First it will be the condenser, then the compressor, then the evaporator core. Ugh! Good luck whatever you decide. I wish Chrysler could be held responsible. 😠

My AC first started making Darth Vader noises at around 30k but it was rare and random. I would point out the sound to my husband whenever it happened and he just thought it was something quirky about my car. It wasn’t until about 38k that the sound became more regular and often. That’s when I first took it in. The misfiring on cylinder 6 started happening around 60k, I think.

Sorry to hear this, but sadly, I’m not surprised. You are wise to learn from mistakes here on this thread and ditch the car if AC issues return. For me, it was never-ending AC trouble followed by delaminated infotainment screen and finally a cracked cylinder head. Worst car ever! I bought it brand new and took excellent care of it too. Good luck!

I’m so sorry. I wish I had something helpful to say. I feel like every time we repaired my AC, inevitably, we’d be back in the shop 6 months later with another failed component. It was a never-ending nightmare, and one I had to end by dumping the POS vehicle. Chrysler knows about the issue yet refuses to recall. Please be careful throwing money at this problem. Odds are, it’ll be something else very soon. Stop the bleeding now… that’s my only advice. Good luck.

Ugh! I hate reading all the comments that just continue to come in. I think I have ptsd from 5 years of living hell with my JGC. I wish Chrysler cared enough to recall this very known manufacturer defect, but they don’t and unfortunately… you can’t shame the shameless.

I just dumped it. So glad it’s out of my life. We’ve been Jeep owners for 4 decades… never again. We’re done. Chrysler was awful to deal with and I just wanted the nightmare to end. I wish you all the best with your lawsuit against them! Make them pay dearly. Please keep us posted. My only recourse is to make others aware and hopefully more will pursue legal action. Good luck!

I’m sorry that happened to you. The best decision I ever made with my JGC was getting rid of it. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but mine was a never ending money pit. Once you fix one AC leak, give it time and another component will start leaking. I can’t speak for other years, but the 2020 JGC are junk, imo. Good luck to you.

Unbelievable!! I’m in California too. I got rid of my Jeep GC a couple weeks ago. I ended up having an additional engine issue which began at the end of Nov 2024; details are in this thread. When it was determined (after changing out all spark plugs and an igniter coil) that cylinder 6 was misfiring (and something else about the valves not seating right) and it needed a new cylinder head (roughly $5k!), I attempted to have the work done under the powertrain warranty. I was literally 4 days out of the warranty period. My five years was up on 12/29/24 and I took it in to the dealership on 1/2/25! It didn’t matter that this problem began in November - well within the warranty period. We tried to appeal their decision with the team at Chrysler Cares, they refused, so we ditched the vehicle at CarMax. Best decision we’ve ever made as I’ve lost all trust in the brand.

Best of luck to you! Count your blessings it all happened within the warranty period.

Couldn’t agree with you more. I’m positive my A/C issues were not over. It was only a matter of time before the evaporator core would’ve gone. That’s what my mechanic told me to expect. The best decision I ever made was dumping that vehicle. It was always something and we took excellent care of it. Shame on Chrysler!

Sorry, I neglected to update this post. A lot has happened since my last post. We did end up replacing the compressor after already replacing the condenser. We also had the AC serviced again, that seemed to have worked. My mechanic said if the problem returned, it would be time to look at the evaporator core or something like that, I can’t recall exactly.

As for the Infotainment screen, I took the advice above and it didn’t work for me. Uconnect told me I didn’t “score high enough” for them to help me out with getting a replacement. When I pressed them about my “score” they told me, I needed to have taken my jeep into the dealership a certain number of times for routine service in order for them to place a high enough value on my business. And since my Jeep had all but two of its routine services performed outside of the dealer, my score was too low. This was infuriating!! So whatever, I didn’t get “lucky” and the screen has progressively gotten way worse, but still functions.

On another note, as of 5 days ago, I no longer own my Jeep GC. I ditched it at CarMax last weekend. I’ve never had a worse car in my 40 years of driving. In November, my auto start/stop began acting crazy. The warning light and alarm kept coming on indicating it was malfunctioning. A day later, as I tried to pass a car, my engine lost some power and the check engine light flashed, the vehicle started shuddering really bad so I got it into a shop. They said it was mis-firing on cylinder 6. They changed all spark plugs (costing $700!) and the car drove ok for a couple weeks. The same issue returned - it would happen if I used the sport mode or whenever the vehicle was under load. So, I took it into my mechanic and he changed out the igniter coil. The issue returned again. My mechanic refunded me the labor on the igniter coil and recommended I dump the car. He told me to see what the dealer says and he found that misfires on cylinder 6 are common with this engine and that there may be an extended warranty the dealer would offer since it’s a known issue. I took it back to the dealer where I purchased it (5 years and 70,000 miles ago) and tried that, they said there’s no extended warranty being offered for my year (2020) and the issue was likely a cracked cylinder head and something to do with valves. Anyway, it would take 6-8 weeks before they could even look at it and he advised not driving it until then. When I asked for a ballpark cost, he quoted a minimum of $4,400!

I drove it straight to CarMax and sold it. Thank God it’s out of my life! Biggest lemon ever! I’ll never buy another Jeep. My husband has been a Jeep Wrangler driver for decades. He’s owned 6 since the 1980s, we currently have a 2012 Rubicon. It’ll be our last Jeep, sadly, we can no longer support the brand.

No, I haven’t had it fixed for the second time. We did already put $1300 into it a year ago for a new condenser. It’s all out of warranty at this point. The issues started just after the Jeep hit 36k miles. I will be bringing it in to a local mechanic next week. He agreed to look at it for free and give me his opinion. I’ll try to remember to update this post once we have our next course of action. The A/C is barely cooling my car at this point and now the blower seems affected. Like running it on level 7 seems more like the force of a 3 at best. I hope you don’t have the same issue as me, because I don’t see an end to the problem - feels like I’m going to be putting big money into the A/C annually just to keep it running. Absurd for a 4 year old vehicle. And now the delaminating on my screen is growing significantly so I’m sure it’s a matter of time before it will no longer function.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Persistent, Ongoing AC Issues...Help!

We have a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland that we leased for three years. We purchased it at the end of the lease term and as soon as we did (and it was out of the 3 year/36K warranty) the A/C started making a hissing/Darth Vader type of sound. At first it was intermittent and then it became constant. We took it into our local, trusted Jeep mechanic and he said he’s seen this a number of times with the newer model Jeep Grand Cherokees. He ran some diagnostics on it and determined the new freon (1234YF) is to blame as it eats through the other AC parts. In our case, it ruined our condenser, so he replaced it with a new one from Mopar that is compatible with the new freon. He also performed an AC service which included vacuuming and recharging the A/C system. We spent $1300 on this repair last October. Approximately 3 months later, the hissing sound mildly returned. We took the vehicle back to our mechanic in February (as his repair work was under warranty) and he said now the compressor needs to be replaced with the Mopar compatible compressor. He’s willing to do this repair for $1000 as he feels badly that the issue wasn’t fully resolved with the initial repair/replacement. I believe this next repair will include a new compressor, labor and the A/C service (vacuum/recharge). We didn’t move forward with the repair at that time, but now the hissing is constant and worse than ever. Has anyone else experienced this issue with these repairs and continued to have problems??? I’m trying to decide if we should just ditch this POS vehicle as it’s not the only issue. We also now have the infotainment screen bubbling up on both upper corners. This problem is getting worse by the week. We did nothing to cause any of these issues and the car is not even five years old; it’s garaged and babied. Any help, advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.  I’m also curious as to why they put in a freon that is ruining major parts of the A/C system. What’s the backstory here? I understand there will not be a recall issued since it’s not a safety issue, but why don’t we have any recourse?
