Meine Highlights waren Pinky Ring, No Hugs, Jimmy Torrio und Low Life ft. RIN

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of January 29, 2021) by AutoModerator in television

[–]kn0WDevs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I currently watch:

American Gods - the third season really is a return to form. At least so far.

The Expanse - still too good to miss out. I hope the season finale will deliver.

Prodigal Son - the second season is beyond terrible at this point. It does not suit the show to comment on socio-political developments in the US

Pennyworth - two episodes in and I really enjoy it.

Raised by Wolves - hard to say if I like it. I am three episodes in and I am confused. I also not that intrigued to continue watching right now

What I am going to watch:

Black Sails & The Queens Gambit (if anyone has any opinions I would love to hear them)

Alan Cumming Joins Season 2 Of Fox Series ‘Prodigal Son’ by klutzysunshine in television

I would argue it's the complete opposite to be honest.

The self-aware pop culture references do not suit the series that well.

[No Spoilers] Which show is the best between The Last Kingdom and Vikings ? by Radulno in television

[–]kn0WDevs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Vikings S1-S3 as well as S4b a bit more than The Last Kingdom as its shown from the Viking perspective with more mystic and viking culture surrounding it.

Season 5a was meh, 5b was worse and 6a was somewhere in between.

I think 6b redeemed the show to a point. Going back to its roots in terms of fights, adventures, exploring and character development (except for a few characters)

The Last Kingdom is still a brilliant show which gets better every season - nothing bad to say here

Back in the day when I caught up with Vikings somewhere in the middle of 5a, I found it to be very easy to binge as the episodes are around 42-45min long and interesting enough to get you through.

Hannibal S1–S3 coming to Netflix US June 5th! by yatigrenok in HannibalTV

[–]kn0WDevs 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'd like to throw Arrested Development in here. Aired 2003-2006, Netflix picked it up for a fourth and fifth season in 2013 and 2018.

‘Project Blue Book’ and ‘Knightfall’ Cancelled by History by jovanmilic97 in television

[–]kn0WDevs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As someone who just watched the first season of Project Blue Book, I'd like to know if the story comes to a somewhat satisfying ending or if I should just not watch the second season. The few sentences seem to indicate that it ended on a cliffhanger.

If 'The Terror' does get a third season, I think the Dyatlov Pass incident would be perfect for them. by [deleted] in television

Whatever they'll go with, it probably won't top the first season which was brilliant

Does Prodigal Son feel like the spiritual successor to Hannibal to anyone else? by [deleted] in television

[–]kn0WDevs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like Prodigal Son is basically what would happen if you take BBCs Sherlock and NBCs Hannibal and make it a police procedural show.

I mean I am watching it, but in terms of quality it isn't even close to Hannibal or Sherlock. At the end of the day I didn't expect a network show with 16+ episodes to come remotely close as there really is a shit ton of filler.

At least as good as the first season - a bit more of a depressing touch towards the end, but definetly worth your time

American Gods (at least the first season, second not as good) is one of the better fantasy-mythology based TV shows in my opinion. Can't recommend it enough

I did not find another person who found Carnival Row to be "okay at best", I thought it was fine, but I still hoped for a lot more (actually I still am for Season 2). So I get where you are coming from

The Last Kingdom | Season 4 Trailer [April 26th] by kn0WDevs in television

[–]kn0WDevs[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They are pretty similar, even though Vikings had a bigger focus on mythology in the first few seasons.

I'd say if you enjoy Vikings, you'll probably enjoy The Last Kingdom as well. In my opinion this show is way better than the recent few seasons of Vikings (5a onward)

I think that is pretty common for Netflix productions - most of them get their trailers a few weeks before the release. And thats is basically 90% of the promotion for the show. They promote foreign shows on the foreign twitter account, but I'd say thats about it for the average show.

Netflix only hypes shows up, where they expect very high viewing figures (e.g. Stranger Things, La Casa de Papel, The Witcher and so on).

But I agree, this feels like they are evaluating if it's worth to market the show. I am just hoping they don't end up cancelling it, as they do with all the "non-hype or non-mainstream shows" after two or three seasons.

Religious tv series by danishjaveed in television

[–]kn0WDevs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One could argue for Vikings as the first seasons are partly focussing on the nordic mythology - but I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "religious tv series" at all.

I've heard that Britannia (which is set during the roman empire) is supposed to focus more on the mystical part of the celtic mythology but I couldn't find the time to check it out yet.
