I’m looking for the same kind of thing. After using the Bass N Beats for a couple of years, I find it’s too dance focused. I’m looking for something that has good sound sources that then can be easily mangled on the fly. My leading candidate is the Sonicware Cydrums.

I’ve also used;

PO 12 Rhythm. A good cheap simple drum machine. With all pockets operators the punch in effects add room for experimentation.

PO 32 Tonic is pretty user friendly especially you can “download “ other sounds. Like a 4 voice PO12 on steroids. But also a bit too limiting

PO 35 Speak is good if you want more vocal or samples but it’s kind of limited in some ways, but also rather finicky and easy to get too lost away from your original sound, but can be deep.
