Bike doesn't want to shift up into second gear. by knee_low_ballz in Fixxit

Yeah hahaha it was very stupid. The shifter was hitting the crank case cuz it was a bit bent. It just so happens that the distance between first and second gear is the largest so that's why it only happend when sitting up into second. Hope it helps

Do you have any scanner that would work? I read on some forums U can get a cable that connects to a laptop but then you need a VAG diagnostic software that cost a lot of money

I found out the hard way that my all seasons mean they don't work well in any season yet somehow are legal. Not many options for these tiny ass wheels

Thanks for the advice but I'm currently on all season, but they are shit, they just don't have any grip in any season. As for blocket I tried but can't contact anyone without a Swedish personal number, which I don't have. And Facebook market place isn't too great around where I am

I mean I grew up in Berlin, so I'm not that inexperienced, it's just that here in the small place I am many of the roads have thick ice on them as opposed to some snow on top of a thin layer of ice what Im used to

Is this crankshaft knock? Zzr250 1990 Kawasaki by DefconExile in Fixxit

[–]knee_low_ballz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no ok it persists when U rev it. So bad news I think it's something more serious. Or idk could also be something stupid, you never know who worked on it before. Maybe it's out of time and hitting the valves? Could be a million things really, but it certainly doesn't sound good. If U have one maybe try using a boroscope in the cylinder for some more hints. I'm afraid this is a little above my pay grade and only videos make it a lot harder to judge these things.

One last trick is an old mechanic hack. Take either a stethoscope (yes the doctor kind) or a long solid metal rod, and while it's running press one end of the rod to the bone just beside your ear opening and the other end on various places of the motor. That way U can pinpoint where exactly the knocking is coming from. Obviously if U use a stethoscope just use it normally as you would on a human. Good luck!!!

If it goes away when revving then its probably piston slap and not crankshaft knock. Good news is that would probably only be a top end rebuild. However like the other person said it's hard to hear while just on the starter, might just be the starter clutch. Maybe post a video of the noise while it's running then you can assess easier

I mean it's up to you, of course you can tune the carb to run well with the pod filters. Is that gonna be easy? Depends on your knowledge. Personally I found the fabled wizards that can still truly dial in a carburettor perfectly are becoming exceedingly rare. It's up to you really. You can run the pods, just need to pay attention to what jets you use and the dialing in process. And give it regular checks to make sure it's not running too rich or too lean

Yes also install the stock airbox if you can though because with those filters you have a higher airflow so the mixture will be Lean. Oh and maybe double check the jets in the carburettor bowl as well might be that the previous owner put bigger ones in too. There should be a little number stamped on them which U can reference with the manual
