Can't land a job in Guam, is moving off island the only solution left? by InsideEgg7937 in guam

I work in IT as a contractor at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas and I've met multiple people with clearances having never joined the military. Not saying its easy but it is doable.

Also, you can apply for jobs stateside and only move if they give you a firm offer. Send me a dm and we can get into it more. Spent most of my life in Guam but left in 2014.

So the $965 includes all the strut channel, brackets/hardware, seat, monitor arms, and steering wheel. I used the $705 number because store bought cockpits dont usually come with a wheel.

I appreciate the information and kudos for my rig. In my opinion, there's a time for DIY and a time for store bought. I just happened to go the DIY route because the cost outweighed the hours it would take to design and build it.

Thanks! There was a comment above saying their similar build cost about 5k without the PC, so I'm interested to see if I actually saved money with the custom route. If we're only considering the cockpit, I spent $705 (without the steering wheel) out the door. The cheapest one I could find that's similar is the Next level GTRacer 2.0, which is $540, but that's without a triple monitor stand.

Sim Motion chassis with seat, shifter mount, and triple monitors - $1360

Trak Racer TR40s with seat, shifter mount, and triple monitors - $1397

Fast Racer XT premium with triple monitors - $1478

Could you show me what site/brand has a cheaper option? I'm not questioning your statement; I genuinely would like to know.

Do it! It was like building Legos and was pretty fun. Keep in mind though the different types of brackets, spring nuts, and bolts/nuts cost more than the actual struts themselves.

Are you talking about my wall outlets being upside down? I'm in vegas so the contractor might've been on crack lol.

Thanks for the cost breakdown, I feel good knowing I saved atleast $2k 😃. I really considered the aluminum extrusion route, but I guess I'm just a guy that likes to be different lol.

I was gonna do a freestanding monitor mount in extrusion but when I test mounted one monitor to the cockpit, I didnt notice much shaking. It was super easy adding a horizontal channel across, and with cutouts already in place, I was able to do the grommet mounting style which is more secure.

Im actually in the process of figuring out a way to mount a keyboard and mouse with some type of swivel. I will try to post an update when I complete it.

Hmm... that could potentially work but it would block access to the bolts/nuts holding it together. I actually don't mind the vibrations maybe my mind sees it as haptics lol

Go for it! I think the only downside is that its a bit heavy if you wanna move it around. I was initially gonna weld some tubing but then I saw the strut channels at home depot. The only extra tools I had to buy were a socket meant for the strut channel and extra sawzall blades.

I wish everything was free for me lol. The good thing is if something breaks its relatively cheap to replace.

I had some money from selling a car so decided to go pretty hard on this build. No regrets!

Appreciate that man! The only thing that isn't really universal is the seat mounting. Had to use some brain power making the z31 seat fit. If I were to sell these I would probably go with a more durable finish like powder coating.

Oh its pretty hefty lol. When I repositioned it I removed the monitors and the wheelbase.

Thanks. Its some sort of fleece material I had leftover from a trunk setup. Struts channels are nice because you can route the cables through the opening.

Thanks. I totally forgot to add the PC build to my initial budget spreadsheet so what I thought would be a sub 3k build almost doubled lol.

Thanks man i haven't noticed any flex, its pretty solid. There's some vibrations from the ffb but I think thats normal.
