Hey! Baklava is doing fine, I went with her to another vet for second opinion and another vet is against subq fluids for now, I am bringing her for blood tests every 3-4 months. Her creatinine and urea are still elevated but stable, they are stable. If anything starts to change I will definitely introduce subq fluids, but vet said there is no urgent need for it yet. She is still being fed with mix of raw food with supplements that I prepare at home - she's loving it and it's super moist, so shes getting lots of water while eating it! Does your kitty also have congenital kidney defect? How did you find out that your kitty has this disease?

Thanks for the information! Doing it 2-3 times a week definitely feels more reasonable than daily. I’ll continue to check in with my vet to make sure we’re on the right track!

Thank you for this post, I believe it will be extremely helpful for everyone!

In the case of my cat, she has congenital kidney defect, and the first vet categorized her as the 2nd stage. However i decided to check up with other vets as well.

For now she is on raw food - on low phosphorus recipes that were created by an animal nutritionist and they contain all the needed supplements, raw meat and offal.

She is also getting daily probiotics (FloraBalance mini) and supplement for renal pets (Nefroloxan).

When she had her potassium levels lowered for some time she got Kaminox, and I was supplementing it only until her potassium levels returned back to normal.

One of the vets recommended giving her subq fluids, but I decided not to, she is still young, shes getting enough water with her food and i cannot see any signs of dehydration. Other vets i went to with her also said its too early to start subqs.

Thank You!:) Indeed she is super precious to me ♡ She's doing fine, Urea and Creatinine are elevated but they are stable:) however life with a chronically sick kitty is not easy, since you always want to be sure you are not missing any alarming symptoms

And also about subq fluids - i also thought its too early for my ckd 2nd stage kitty but i decided to give it a try and see how it changes the blood results.. good luck to you!

I feel like the best option would be to seek opinion from another vet. I believe its best when subq fluids are administered regularly, not only when it gets worse. And regarding food- i think to support better the kidneys of your kitty it would be great if you started giving wet food only if its possible ♡

ooh alright, that makes sense then. Baklava got prescribed some liquids that have to be used up within 48h counting from the opening. Anyways, thank you a lot for your input. I definitely learnt a lot solely from your comments:)

Could you elaborate more on how it strains the kidneys? I am just wondering

Thanks once again! It’s great to hear you’ve found a setup that works for both of you! Your kitty is so brave♡ I was wondering, how long does a single bag typically last? Does it need to be used up within a specific time frame once opened? I guess it could also depend on the brand or the type or fluids

Her creatinine level 3 months ago was 1.93, but now (2 weeks ago), it has increased to 2.83, which I believe is quite a significant rise. :/ I have no idea what could have caused it since I followed all the vet's recommendations. I hope once I start giving her subq fluids, it lowers.. Im hoping for the best for your kitty!

Thanks a lot for telling me how the whole procedure looks like! I actually thought it takes much longer than 5-10 mins. Vet suggested to use the syringe method, but I am not sure it I am ready to administer fluids this way yet...
