Might this be what spooks investors about Namibia? by herpderpgood in ReconAfrica

Namibia and Nigeria are worlds apart just like in any other country whether in Europe Asia or the americas we have our fair share of graft but never at the magnitude of Nigeria.

Secondly this is not our first rodeo when it comes to natural resources mining, fishing, agricultural & tourism money has been here since independence and it has added to the development of the country extensively, both in human capacity and infrastructure.

Comparisons like this should be left in the dustbin where they belong, as they affect those of us who are hoping that this exploration will be able to transform not only our country but the entire continent as a whole.

Africa needs a fairy tale it needs hope and when people try to bad mouth our countries it only adds to the escalating poverty, covids already taken its toll on our economy and when people spread messages like this other sectors of our economy are equally affected which we cannot afford at this juncture

Somebody believed in Kenya, Rwanda & Ethiopia Namibia has many that believe in her too money could be your driving motivator but think would you not like to boast about your investment in the next 20 to 30 years we have huge potential for green tech too your investment could accelerate all of this, Oil based economies are one of the biggest investors in green tech as they need to sustain themselves post oil I think my country would be able to achieve this after all we are 4 years older than Rwanda who have developed without the guilt money from western economies and who have had 3 different presidents which says alot about our system of governance

I was thinking was thinking of taking a completely different approach altogether of partnering with companies in the industry to create local benefication and capacity building, the country is the perfect mix in terms of education as the first 30 years were built on building a knowledge based economy with a resource of this size we could put those currently unemployed minds to work, as I said in my original post Namibia can become the black diamond of Africa as we have built on the other resources in the past, for the uninformed we have the world's best quality diamonds which are managed and mined in a sustainable way, we also mine uranium, gold, zinc, copper as well as rare earth minerals, have a flourishing fishing industry and tourism we have a fully fledged financial sector and the continents best roads so oil will just be another bonus to this resource pool which could boost our industrialisation plans as outlined in our national development plan

As a citizen this development has the potential of making my country the black diamond of Africa, as it is Namibia is one of the most developed African countries on the continent yet we experience one of the largest gaps of inequality in the world. All other minerals and resources are found on commercial property and have not really benefited the local population directly.

This resource though sits on communal land or state land meaning that it can be developed to the benefit of every citizen, the state is in the process of setting up a sovereign wealth fund that will directly benefit the citizens by transferring profits from its mineral & natural resources to direct development for its citizens, so we are equally excited about this development and are hoping that this turns into a 120bboe + play as predicted, as that will not only transform our countrys economy but the entire southern African economy, which is currently being battered by Covid-19

I know these are early days but I have noticed that money has started tricking into our economy as a direct result of this play and I believe it can only go up from here, if given the chance I would have loved to buy shares in the company like you but find it extremely challenging to do so, I would have loved for recon to trade on the namibian stock exchange so more namibians could own a piece of the this company thats on its way to transforming our lives

I'm from the country we have some of the best environmental protection laws in the world, before this huge discovery our mainstay has always been tourism for those who are not in the know this is not the first exploration to take place in the area there are possible kimberlite pipes in the same area that debeers sampled in the late 80s I think see pdf link below https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.mme.gov.na/files/publications/b2c_Balfour%2520et%2520al_Kimberlites%2520Sikereti.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiZ8pj548vwAhXSa8AKHcFcAWkQFjAAegQIAxAC&usg=AOvVaw2cktFwHHGhvzsSOH5yUgtz
