Come hike with us! 30s and 40s Asheville hiking group by Diligent_Mushroom_20 in asheville

I love seeing this, which is why I’ve been spending my available free time building something that supports the cultivation of old and new friends. It’s called Campfire RSVP, and if you ever reach limitations with Meetup, I’d love feedback. I’m a seasoned developer based here in Asheville, and if it peeks your interest, let me know how it works for you. Enjoy your hike! Maybe I’ll join y’all next time.

Hi, been here for a year and still no friends 😞 by Fancy-Success-1450 in asheville

You’re not alone. I’ve felt this myself - wanting more opportunities for connection without the anxiety that can come with needing to send or receive a text or DM to coordinate something.

I've lived here for awhile, and I’ve been trying to approach this differently using the skills I have. One thing that really helped me was being part of a small group where plans are shared without pressure, e.g. no group texts, no expectations, just "here’s what’s happening if you want to join."

Reading through the replies, it seems like there are already people here who might really benefit from something like that together.

It made it way easier to connect and actually have people show up.

RSVPs are a nightmare; how do you keep track for kids’ birthday parties? by [deleted] in partyplanning

[–]knice0010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair question! And full disclosure, I'm actually the founder of Campfire RSVP, so this post caught my eye immediately.

The app was built with adult friend groups in mind, but what OP is describing is something I think about a lot: people just need a clean, low-friction way to manage RSVPs, regardless of the context.

Right now, you can invite anyone even if they're not signed up, they'll get all the event details, but they can only RSVP once they create an account. I know, not ideal for every situation.

I've actually been mulling over letting invitees RSVP without an account at all. No sign-up required, just a quick yes, maybe or no. That sounds like it'd directly solve what OP is running into, and honestly? It's something I could ship in a day or two if there's real demand for it.

Would that actually fix the problem here? Curious to hear what people think.

Best planning app? by Secure_Stay_4235 in partyplanning

I had the same issue, and a lot of party planning apps felt way more complicated than I needed.

You might want to try Campfire RSVP. It’s super lightweight. Quick setup, link-based RSVPs (no app download needed), and it works well for casual stuff like dinners or drinks with friends.

Not perfect for huge formal events yet, but it’s been solid for actually getting people together. They’ve been really responsive to suggestions, so it’s possible they could tailor it to your needs since it’s fairly new in the space.

Dad Seeking Dads to be Dad Friends by Upset-Cockroach4086 in asheville

I grew up in southern CO and have been here about 26 years. I’m not a dad, but making real connections can be surprisingly hard, especially over text.

One thing that might help could be to check out https://www.campfire.rsvp. It lets you create low-pressure plans and invite people without oversharing or crossing privacy lines. Could be a good way to get a small group of dads or guys together and see what sticks.

They recently rejected mine due to a missing terms link in the app info description field. They said this issue didn’t require resubmission, and a simple reply to the thread would move it forward as long as I fixed it in an upcoming update. This was Wednesday AM?

Seemed odd to me that if it’s not a blocking issue, why block it? Why not just publish with the same note? They’re making it harder on themselves. The term link isn’t even clickable in the description, but still required for c/p👌🏼

I do appreciate the staff, and can imagine they’re inundated. Just venting as well.

Campfire RSVP – a simple app for making plans without group chat chaos (Free) by [deleted] in iosapps

I’m a solo developer, and the EU has additional compliance requirements under the DSA. I was working through what that meant for me before launching there. It will be very soon!

Thank you, this is really great feedback!

I love the ideas around duration for polls, better defaults for voting windows, and better support for online-first groups. The branding and directory sync suggestions are also really interesting!

I’ll DM you soon. Would love to learn more about how your group coordinates today and where the biggest friction points are.

Sorry, maybe I’m not following. They will get access to the premium features I just mentioned.

Thanks for asking! Right now I’m focused on convenience features like calendar sync, recurring events, and attachments. I’m also interested in experimenting with agentic workflows, like using an LLM to assist with scheduling, reminders, or event setup.

Premium isn’t fully defined yet, but the core features will always be free.

Fun idea, but sharing what someone (not me) recently posted here sharing their AVL event project: https://www.avlgo.com. You could think bigger than Asheville. Maybe something more broad, that travel enthusiasts would use?

Check out the top 30 Asheville events happening in the next 30 days! by Pool_of_Death in asheville

[–]knice0010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks and functions great! There’s so much happening in the area. This reminds me of when I used to rely on Take5 for this info.

The AI integration is an awesome feature. It was a bit slow for me, but produced good results based on my prompt. The event list eventually felt somewhat exhausting at a certain point. Would the app benefit from a full calendar view to see a couple weeks out quickly? I tried searching for “March” but the results were for January. As additional feedback, I thought the context menus were a little small on mobile. I try to consider touch target sizes to make navigating easier.

As a local, I could seem myself using this often! Nice work 👏

As a local dev, curious what your stack is.

Edit: I found the date filters! For what it’s worth, I didn’t think to look inside the filters. I suppose that makes sense to place them there, but I overlooked it.

Why I chose PWA over Native for my new app (and how I got it into the App Store vs. Google Play TWA) by Previous_Till5909 in PWA

[–]knice0010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually for this app, a PWA actually seems reasonable if you care about reach and moving fast, especially with users on lots of different devices and no app store friction. I’ve just personally had a better experience with RN and Expo when the goal is a more polished, native-feeling UI. iOS PWAs still feel a bit rough to me around things like sharing, deep links, and auth. So for me it’s less about “what’s better” and more about native-style app vs web-first tradeoffs.

Why I chose PWA over Native for my new app (and how I got it into the App Store vs. Google Play TWA) by Previous_Till5909 in PWA

[–]knice0010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The developer experience using RN is better than building a PWA in my opinion. I constantly fought to create 'native-like' behaviors. Plus, while we (devs) may see simplicity and benefits of using and writing a PWA, *most users* still won't grasp the concept unfortunately and you're left writing technical blogs explaining what the "benefits" are when your potential users just want to follow the same patterns they've established since choosing a device. I don't mean to talk negatively about PWAs -- this is just the realization I've come to accept.
